Chapter 245: Easy death

"No, not physically," she said, shaking her head. "But he was so angry. He said horrible things, and then he... he threatened me."

Fredrick’s face darkened with concern. "Threatened you? How?"

Margaret swallowed hard, her eyes filled with tears. "I asked him for a divorce. I told him that I couldn’t continue living this lie, that I needed to be with you. But he refused. He said that if I tried to leave him, he would ruin me. He would take everything, and he would make sure that I never saw my daughter again."

Fredrick’s hands clenched into fists, his anger barely contained. "That bastard," he muttered. "He can’t do that to you, Margaret. He can’t control you like this."

"But he can," she said softly, her voice breaking. "He has the power, the money, and the influence. He knows how to manipulate the system. And I can’t bear the thought of losing my daughter , Fredrick. She’s everything to me."

Fredrick pulled her into a tight embrace, his heart aching for her. "We’ll find a way, Margaret. We’ll figure this out together. He can’t keep you trapped in this nightmare."

Margaret clung to him, her tears soaking into his shirt. "I don’t know what to do, Fredrick. I’m so scared."

He pulled back slightly, cupping her face in his hands. "We’ll get through this. I promise. We’ll find a way to protect you and your daughter . You don’t have to face this alone."

Margaret looked into his eyes, finding strength in his determination. "I don’t want to lose you, Fredrick. You’re the only thing keeping me sane right now."

"And you won’t lose me," he said firmly. "I’m here for you, no matter what. We’ll fight this together."

They sat there in silence for a moment, holding each other tightly. Margaret felt a glimmer of hope, knowing that she had someone who loved her and was willing to fight for her.

"What can we do?" she asked finally, her voice barely above a whisper.

Fredrick thought for a moment, his mind racing with possibilities. "First, we need to be careful. We can’t let James find out that we’re still seeing each other. We need to keep everything discreet."

Margaret nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "I can do that. I’ve already been careful, but I’ll be even more cautious."

"And we need to find a good lawyer," Fredrick continued. "Someone who can help us navigate this and protect your interests. I’ll start looking into it right away."

Margaret felt a sense of relief wash over her. Having a plan, even a small one, gave her a sense of control that she desperately needed.

"Thank you, Fredrick," she said, her voice filled with gratitude. "I don’t know what I would do without you."

Making sure Margaret was deeply asleep, Fredrick carefully slipped out of bed, moving with the quiet precision of a practiced lover. He glanced back at her peaceful form, her chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm. Satisfied that she was comfortable, he stepped out of the room, gently closing the door behind him.

He walked to the balcony, the cityscape sprawling out beneath him. The cool night air did little to ease the turmoil within him. He pulled out his phone, his fingers moving deftly over the screen. After a moment, the call connected, and he pressed the phone to his ear.

"Hello, sweetheart. Guess who is back?" Fredrick’s voice was low, a mix of warmth and mystery.

There was a brief silence on the other end before a soft, feminine voice responded, "Fredrick, it’s you. I was beginning to think you’d forgotten about me."

He smiled, a hint of mischief in his eyes. "How could I forget? I’ve missed you."

"I’ve missed you too," the voice replied, a blend of affection and anticipation. "How was Tokyo?"

"It was... productive," he said, glancing back at the closed bedroom door. "But all I could think about was getting back to you."

"You always know how to make me feel special," she said, a playful lilt in her tone. "When can I see you?"

"Soon," he promised, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I need to handle a few things first, but I’ll be in touch. I can’t wait to hold you again."

There was a pause, the silence between them charged with unspoken emotions. "Be careful, Fredrick," she finally said, her tone serious. "I don’t want anything to happen to you."

"I will," he assured her. "You take care too, alright?"

"I will. Call me when you can," she said softly. "Goodnight, Fredrick."

"Goodnight, sweetheart," he replied, ending the call and slipping the phone back into his pocket.

Fredrick ended the call and slipped his phone back into his pocket, the cool night air giving him a moment to collect his thoughts. He stared out at the city one last time, then turned and quietly made his way back to the bedroom.

Margaret was still asleep, her breathing slow and steady. He watched her for a moment. He knew he had to tread carefully.

Silently, he grabbed a fresh set of clothes and made his way to the en suite bathroom. He closed the door gently behind him, turning on the light and the shower. The sound of the water hitting the tiles filled the small space, creating a soothing background noise.

Fredrick stripped off his clothes and stepped under the warm spray, letting it wash away the tension of the past few weeks. The trip to Tokyo had been exhausting, and dealing with the constant threat of Harrison made everything even more stressful. But here, in the privacy of this penthouse, he could let his guard down, if only for a little while.

After a long, hot shower, Fredrick felt the weight of his fatigue begin to lift. He turned off the water, grabbed a towel, and dried himself off before slipping into the fresh clothes he had brought. Running a hand through his damp hair, he took a deep breath and headed back to the bedroom.

Margaret was still sleeping soundly, a slight smile on her lips.

’Maybe he should just put a knife through her heart. Ha—that would be an easy death one she didn’t deserve.’

Fredrick pulled her close, wrapping an arm around her. She stirred slightly, murmuring his name in her sleep. He kissed the top of her head, whispering words of love and reassurance.

"Sleep well, my love," he said softly. "We’ll face everything together."
