Chapter 233: Ruin everything

Cage frowned as the doorbell rang, interrupting the solitude of his evening. He hadn’t been expecting anyone, especially not at this hour. Setting aside the document he had been reviewing, he made his way to the door, a sense of unease gnawing at the back of his mind.

Peering through the pinhole, he caught sight of Lily standing on the other side, her eyes red and swollen from crying. His heart skipped a beat at the sight of her distress, a surge of concern flooding through him as he wondered what could have happened to bring her here.

For a moment, he debated whether to answer the door or ignore her altogether.

But then, seeing the raw vulnerability in Lily’s eyes, he knew he couldn’t turn her away. With a resigned sigh, he unlocked the door and swung it open, his expression guarded as he regarded her with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension.

"Lily," he greeted her, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "What are you doing here?"

Lily’s gaze met his, her eyes pleading for understanding as she struggled to find the right words. "I... I needed to see you," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "Can I come in?"

Cage hesitated for a moment, his mind racing with conflicting emotions. But then, seeing the desperation etched on Lily’s face, he stepped aside and gestured for her to enter.

"Of course," he replied, his voice softening with compassion. "Come in."

As Lily stepped into Cage’s home, a wave of relief washed over her. She felt a sense of gratitude towards him for allowing her in despite their complicated history. Cage closed the door behind her, his eyes never leaving her face as he led her into the living room.

"Please, have a seat," Cage offered, gesturing towards the couch. Lily nodded silently, sinking into the plush cushions as she tried to gather her thoughts.

Cage took a seat opposite her, his expression unreadable as he waited for her to speak. Lily took a deep breath, steeling herself for the difficult conversation that lay ahead.

"I... I’m sorry for showing up unannounced like this," Lily began, her voice trembling with emotion. "But I didn’t know where else to turn. I needed someone to talk to, and... and you were the only person I could think of."

Cage listened in silence, his gaze softening as he saw the pain etched on Lily’s face. He reached out and placed a reassuring hand on hers, offering her a silent gesture of support.

"You don’t have to apologize," Cage said gently. "I’m here for you, Lily. Whatever you need, I’ll do my best to help."

Tears welled up in Lily’s eyes as she felt the weight of Cage’s words wash over her.

"Thank you," Lily whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "Thank you for being here for me."

And as they sat together in the quiet of Cage’s living room, surrounded by the warmth of his presence, Lily knew that she had made the right decision in seeking him

"Cage, do you have any water?" Lily asked, her voice barely audible above the hum of her thoughts.

Cage nodded, concern etched in his expression. "Of course, Lily," he replied gently, rising from his seat. "I’ll get you some water right away."

He disappeared into the kitchen, leaving Lily alone with her tumultuous emotions. She sat on the edge of the couch, her mind racing as she tried to make sense of everything that had led her to this moment.

Moments later, Cage returned with a glass of water, the cool liquid offering a welcome respite to Lily’s parched throat. She took a grateful sip, the simple act of drinking providing a brief moment of clarity amidst the chaos of her thoughts.

"Thank you," Lily murmured, offering Cage a small smile as she set the glass down on the coffee table.

Cage returned her smile, his eyes filled with a mixture of empathy and concern. "Is there anything else I can get you?" he asked gently.

Lily shook her head, her gaze drifting towards the liquor cabinet. "Actually, do you have any alcohol?" she asked, her voice hesitant.

Cage’s brow furrowed slightly at her request, but he nodded nonetheless. "Yes, I have some whiskey," he replied, gesturing towards the cabinet. "Would you like some?"

Lily hesitated, her heart heavy with the weight of her troubles. But in that moment, the allure of alcohol offered a fleeting escape from her pain.

"Yes, please," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Cage fetched a bottle of whiskey from the cabinet and poured her a small glass. He handed it to her with a sympathetic smile, his eyes filled with understanding.

"Here you go," he said softly. "Take your time. I’m here if you need to talk."

Lily accepted the glass of whiskey with a grateful nod, feeling the warmth of the amber liquid soothing her frayed nerves. She took a slow sip, relishing the familiar burn as it spread through her body, momentarily easing the weight of her troubles.

As she sat in silence, lost in her thoughts, Cage remained by her side, a steady presence offering silent support. He didn’t press her for answers or demand explanations. Instead, he simply sat with her, his presence a comforting anchor in the storm of her emotions.

After a moment, Lily found the courage to speak, her voice hesitant as she struggled to put her feelings into words. "I don’t even know where to begin," she admitted, her voice trembling with emotion. "Everything just feels so... overwhelming."

As Lily sat silently, the whiskey coursing through her veins, her emotions reached a boiling point.

The weight of her mother’s revelation pressed down on her like a suffocating blanket, igniting a spark of anger within her that she could no longer contain.

"Why does she want to ruin everything?!" Lily finally snapped, her voice laced with frustration and confusion.

Cage furrowed his brows, taken aback by the sudden outburst. "Who?" he asked gently, his concern evident in his tone.
