Chapter 202: Believe me
Abby breathed out, feeling a weight lift from her shoulders as she processed Remo’s words. "You had sex with another woman, Remo," she stated, her voice steady despite the turmoil raging within her.
Remo shook his head, his expression pained. "I didn’t have sex with her, I just... was with her," he explained, his words trailing off as he struggled to find the right way to articulate his actions.
Her brows furrowed in confusion, Abby jerked her head back, her mind racing to comprehend what Remo was trying to tell her. "What?" she exclaimed, her voice tinged with disbelief. "I thought you were... wait, what does ’you were with her’ mean exactly?"
As Remo sighed, running a hand over his wet head, Abby felt a surge of relief wash over her. Despite everything, he hadn’t gone all the way with the other woman, and for that, she was grateful.
"I... Is this..." Remo hesitated, his voice thick with emotion. "I needed her help to do some investigation for me. She asked for dinner as payment. We were having dinner, and then she poured her wine on me. She knelt to wipe it from my lap, but I pulled away. That’s what happened. I’m so sorry. She touched me. I knew it wasn’t right, I didn’t want that. I mean... I... God," he trailed off, his shame evident in his downcast gaze.
Abby’s heart skipped a beat as she heard him, her breath catching in her throat as she met his gaze, searching for any trace of deceit or falsehood.
"And why should I believe you?" she whispered, her voice barely above a murmur, her vulnerability laid bare before him.
Remo’s expression softened, his eyes filled with sincerity as he reached out to gently cup her face in his hands. "Because it’s the truth, Abby," he replied, his voice unwavering in its conviction. "I don’t want to be with anyone except you. I didn’t want her, I only want you. I only want you, Abby."
"Who is she, Remo?" Abby questioned.
A tense silence hung in the air as Abby’s question pierced through the fragile calm that had settled between them. Remo’s demeanor shifted subtly, a flicker of guilt flashing across his features before he quickly masked it with a neutral expression.
"She’s... she’s no one, Abby," he replied, his voice strained as he struggled to maintain his composure.
But Abby could see through the facade, could sense the guilt that lingered just beneath the surface of Remo’s stoic facade. Her heart clenched at the realization that he was keeping something from her, something that had the power to shatter the fragile trust.
"Who is she, Remo?" Abby pressed, her voice steady but filled with an undercurrent of desperation. She needed to know the truth, no matter how painful it might be.
Remo’s jaw tightened, his eyes darting away for a fleeting moment before he met Abby’s gaze head-on. "She’s... someone from my past," he admitted reluctantly, his voice barely above a whisper. "But she doesn’t matter, Abby. I swear to you, she doesn’t matter."
"Have you slept with her before?" Abby questioned, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and insecurity.
Remo sighed, his shoulders sagging under the weight of her scrutiny. "Yes—before I met you," he admitted reluctantly, his voice tinged with regret.
Abby’s heart sank at his words, a surge of jealousy burning within her like a hot coal. Despite her efforts to remain composed, she couldn’t suppress the twinge of hurt that gnawed at her heart.
"Before you met me?" she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes searching for any sign of deception.
Remo’s gaze faltered under her scrutiny, his guilt plain for all to see. "Yes," he confirmed, his voice heavy with remorse. "But that’s all in the past, Abby. It doesn’t mean anything now."
But Abby couldn’t shake the feeling of betrayal that clawed at her heart, the image of Remo with another woman haunting her thoughts like a ghost. She fought to quell the rising tide of jealousy, but it threatened to consume her, leaving her feeling raw and exposed.
"And now?" she pressed, her voice trembling with uncertainty. "Do you still... have feelings for her?"
Remo’s expression softened as he reached out to gently caress Abby’s cheek. "No, Abby, I swear," he insisted, his voice filled with earnest sincerity. "I want you . Only you."
"Good, because you are mine," Abby declared, her voice laced with a hint of possessiveness that sent a shiver down Remo’s spine. "I don’t care if you won’t give me your heart, but everything else belongs to me until this is over."
Remo’s heart skipped a beat at Abby’s words, her possessive tone igniting a desire within him. He reached out and gently took her hand in his, intertwining their fingers as he drew her close.
"I’m yours, Abby," he whispered, his voice filled with a fierce determination. "Every part of me belongs to you, now and forever."
Abby’s smile widened at Remo’s words, a wave of relief washing over her as she felt his forehead against hers. She savored the warmth of his touch, the reassurance of his presence calming the storm of emotions raging within her.
"I was so scared—so scared to lose you over this," Remo whispered, his voice thick with emotion. Abby could feel the sincerity in his words, the raw vulnerability of his confession tugging at her heartstrings.
Tears welled in Abby’s eyes as she listened to Remo’s heartfelt plea for forgiveness. Despite the pain he had caused her, she couldn’t ignore the genuine remorse in his voice.
"I know you didn’t mean to hurt me, Remo," Abby replied softly, her voice filled with compassion. "And I forgive you."
Remo’s shoulders sagged with relief at her words, his arms tightening around her as he pulled her close. "Thank you, Abby," he murmured, his voice choked with emotion. "I promise I’ll be more careful next time. I never want to see you hurt because of me again."
"Good," she replied softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I’m not losing you to someone else when you’re finally mine."
Remo’s brows furrowed in confusion at her words, but before he could respond, Abby closed the distance between them, pressing her lips to his in a tender kiss
