Chapter 189: Curiosity
Chapter 189: Curiosity
Remo sat in a private room of Nicole’s favorite restaurant, his gaze sweeping casually over the elegant surroundings. The soft glow of candlelight bathed the room in a warm, inviting ambiance, casting shadows that seemed to dance across the polished surfaces.
Suddenly, the door swung open, and Remo’s attention was drawn to the figure that sauntered into view. Nicole was the epitome of blonde bombshell beauty, her long locks cascading in golden waves around her shoulders. Her piercing blue eyes sparkled with mischief as she moved with the grace and confidence of a predator on the prowl.
Nicole’s curves were accentuated by the form-fitting dress that hugged her every curve, leaving little to the imagination. Her full lips were painted a deep crimson, a tantalizing invitation that promised both danger and desire.
As she approached Remo’s table, a sultry smile played at the corners of Nicole’s mouth, her gaze locking onto his with a magnetic intensity. She exuded an air of seductive allure that was impossible to ignore, drawing him in like a moth to a flame.
"Remo," she purred, her voice a velvet whisper that sent a shiver down his spine. "So glad you could join me."
Remo’s expression remained unreadable as he rose to greet her, his eyes never leaving hers.
With a silent nod, he gestured for her to take a seat.
"How have you been? I guess married life really suits you."
Nicole’s voice was smooth as silk, laced with a hint of amusement as she spoke. Remo’s gaze remained steady as he regarded her, his expression carefully neutral.
"I’ve been well," he replied evenly, his tone betraying nothing of the tumultuous emotions that churned beneath the surface. "And thank you. Marriage life has its perks."
Nicole’s lips curled into a sly smile, a glint of mischief dancing in her eyes. "I’m sure it does," she replied coyly, her voice dripping with innuendo. "But tell me, Remo, do you ever miss the thrill of our little rendezvous?"
Remo’s jaw clenched at her words, a flicker of irritation crossing his features before he regained his composure. "That’s all in the past, Nicole," he said firmly, his voice leaving no room for doubt. "We both made our choices."
Nicole’s smile widened, her gaze never wavering from his. "Of course," she replied smoothly, though Remo detected a hint of challenge in her tone. "But some memories are hard to forget, don’t you think?"
Remo’s grip tightened on his glass, his mind racing with memories of their tumultuous past. But he refused to let Nicole see the effect her words had on him. With a forced smile, he raised his glass in a silent toast.
"To moving forward," he said, his voice tinged with finality.
Nicole’s smile remained as she returned the gesture, her eyes glittering with hidden depths. "To new beginnings," she murmured, her voice a tantalizing promise of things to come.
The waiter approached their table, a practiced smile plastered on his face as he prepared to take their order.
Nicole looked through the menu before placing an order.
"I’ll have the filet mignon, medium-rare, with a side of truffle mashed potatoes," she said smoothly, her voice carrying an air of sophistication.
Remo nodded in agreement,. "I’ll have the same," he said, his tone clipped and businesslike.
As the waiter scribbled down their orders and departed, Nicole leaned back in her chair, a satisfied smirk playing at the corners of her lips.
"So, Remo," she began, her tone casual. "Tell me about your wife. I’m curious about the woman who has replaced me."
Remo’s expression remained stoic as Nicole broached the subject of his wife, her words laced with a hint of curiosity. He resisted the urge to bristle at her probing question, knowing that showing any sign of weakness would only fuel her curiosity further.
"My wife is none of your concern, Nicole," Remo replied evenly, his tone firm and unwavering. "She’s a private person, and I intend to respect her privacy."
Nicole’s lips curved into a knowing smile, her gaze unwavering as she met his eyes. "Fair enough," she conceded, though there was a glint of mischief in her expression. "But you can’t blame a girl for being curious."
Remo’s jaw tightened at her words, but he forced himself to remain calm. He knew that Nicole thrived on pushing his buttons, but he refused to give her the satisfaction of seeing him react.
"Curiosity killed the cat, Nicole," he quipped, his voice tinged with a hint of warning. "And you know what they say about cats and their nine lives."
Nicole chuckled softly, her laughter sending a shiver down Remo’s spine. "Perhaps," she replied cryptically, her eyes gleaming with hidden meaning. "But some cats are more resilient than others."
"She’s off limits, Nicole," he repeated, his tone leaving no room for misinterpretation. "Don’t do something that will make me put a bullet in your head."
Nicole’s response was a knowing chuckle, her lips curling into a sly smile as she regarded him with amusement. "Wow," she remarked, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "I guess I really underestimated how much she meant to you."
Remo’s jaw clenched at her words, his frustration simmering beneath the surface.
"You know nothing about my relationship with my wife," Remo replied tersely, his tone laced with irritation. "And I suggest you keep it that way if you know what’s good for you."
Nicole’s smile widened, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "Oh, Remo," she teased, her voice lilting with amusement. "You always were so protective of your little secrets. But don’t worry, I won’t pry... for now."
Nicole’s words hung in the air like a menacing cloud, her tone laced with a veiled threat.
"I know your arrangement is one year," she whispered,
"After one year, I will come for what’s mine. That is, if you survive."
Remo’s jaw clenched at her words, his mind racing with a flurry of emotions.
But it was her next words that sent a bolt of ice through his veins.
"You really don’t know much about your little wife and her family, do you?" she taunted, her eyes glittering with malice.
