Chapter 186: Lovesick puppy
Chapter 186: Lovesick puppy
Remo sat at the head of the long, mahogany table in the dimly lit conference room of his lavish casino, his icy gaze sweeping over the assembled workers. The air crackled with tension as they awaited his words.
"Good evening, gentlemen," Remo’s voice was smooth as silk, but there was a dangerous edge to it that made even the most seasoned of his employees shift uneasily in their seats. "I’ve called this meeting to address a matter of utmost importance."
He paused, letting the weight of his words sink in before continuing.
"Someone in this room has made a grave mistake. They’ve dared to steal from me, to betray the trust that I have placed in each and every one of you."
The room fell silent, the only sound was the soft hum of the air conditioning. Remo’s steely gaze swept over the room, his eyes boring into each man as if daring them to speak.
"I want you to understand something very clearly," he said, his voice dropping to a low, menacing growl. "I will not tolerate betrayal. I will not tolerate disloyalty. And I will most certainly not tolerate thievery."
A shiver ran down the spine of every man in the room as Remo’s words hung in the air like a dark cloud.
"I don’t yet know who the culprit is," Remo continued, his tone deadly calm. "But mark my words, I will find out. And when I do, there will be consequences."
He leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable.
"You have twenty-four hours," he said, his voice cutting through the silence like a knife. "Twenty-four hours to come forward and confess your sins. After that, there will be no mercy."
With that, Remo rose from his seat and swept out of the room, leaving his workers to contemplate the gravity of his words. And as the door clicked shut behind him, the fear in the room was almost palpable.
As Remo exited the room, the atmosphere hung heavy with tension, each man wrestling with his own thoughts and fears. Whispers of speculation filled the air as they exchanged nervous glances, wondering who among them would be foolish enough to test Remo’s resolve.
Silence settled over the room like a suffocating blanket, broken only by the distant sound of slot machines chiming in the casino beyond.
Finally, one man cleared his throat, breaking the oppressive silence.
"What are we gonna do?" he asked, his voice trembling with uncertainty.
Another man shook his head, his face pale beneath the harsh fluorescent lights. "We have to find out who did this before Alfonso does," he whispered, his eyes darting nervously around the room.
The others nodded in agreement, a sense of urgency driving them to action. They knew that if they didn’t uncover the identity of the thief before Remo did, they would all suffer the consequences.
They knew that when their patience wore thin, his wrath would be swift and merciless. And as the seconds ticked by, the pressure mounted, driving them to the brink of madness.
Remo sat in his office watching his workers on the CCTV, Remo watched and waited, his icy gaze piercing the screen like a dagger. He knew that it was only a matter of time before the truth was revealed, and when it was, he would mete out justice with an iron fist.
For in his world, there was no room for weakness, no room for mercy. There was only power, and the unyielding pursuit of control. And woe betide anyone who dared to challenge his authority, for they would soon discover that beneath his nice facade, there was a monster waiting to be awakened.
"Do you think the person would show up?" Tony asked, taking another long drink from his beer as he sat opposite Remo.
Remo pulled his phone out of his pocket, squinting as the bright light hit his eyes. "Of course not. Deny until evidence is shown, have you forgotten?" he told Tony with a cold edge to his voice.
Remo checked to make sure he had no messages from Abby. He had been too scared to let his phone out of his sight all day, worried he would miss a call or text from her. Quickly composing a text, he felt a pang of insecurity, feeling like a whiny girlfriend when he did.
"Why hasn’t she texted me?" Remo muttered to himself, the knot of worry in his stomach tightening with each passing moment. He knew he had more pressing matters to attend to, but the uncertainty gnawed at him, refusing to be ignored.
Remo: Hey babe. Miss me yet?
Abby: Hello, of course I do. How was your flight?
Remo: Long and boring, just like I expected.
Abby: I can’t wait to have you back home. It’s been too quiet without you here.
Remo: Yeah, I miss being there with you. I didn’t think this through before I left. I just want you close, where I can keep an eye on you.
Abby: You worry too much, Remo. I’ll be fine, I promise.
Remo: I know, I just can’t help it. I want to make sure no one ever hurts you again.
Abby: You’re sweet, but you don’t have to worry about that anymore. I’m safe with you.
Remo: I know, but I still can’t shake the feeling. Plus, I miss being able to touch you whenever I want.
Abby: Well, you’ll just have to make up for lost time when you get back.
Remo: Trust me, I plan to. Can’t wait to hold you in my arms again, babe.
Abby: Me neither. See you soon.
Remo placed his phone down, trying to push aside his worries about Abby for the moment. Just as he was about to refocus on the matter at hand, Tony’s teasing voice cut through the silence.
"Who were you texting?" Tony asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Remo raised an eyebrow, shooting Tony a warning look. "None of your business, Tony," he replied curtly.
Tony chuckled, unfazed by Remo’s response. "Come on, Remo, don’t be coy. I saw the way you were staring at that screen like a lovesick puppy. Is there something you’re not telling me?"
