The Twisted Obsession -
Chapter 172: Envy
Chapter 172: Envy
As Abby stepped out of the mansion, a wave of relief washed over her, mingling with a sense of satisfaction. She took a deep breath, the cool air filling her lungs, momentarily calming her frazzled nerves. Pretending to appear nonchalant had been exhausting, but it was worth it for the look on the Harrison’s face.
Oh, how she relished the thought of driving them insane. Nothing had motivated her to be a living nightmare for the Harrisons like today. Seeing the lack of remorse on their faces only fueled her determination further.
"You did well," Tony praised her, breaking the silence as they made their way towards the waiting car.
Abby smiled and nodded. "Thank you "
"Abby," Cage called out as she reached the car. She turned around to face him, acknowledging his presence with a nod. "Cage. "
"How are you feeling?" he asked, concern evident in his voice.
Abby offered Cage a small smile, appreciating his concern. "I’m alright, Cage," she replied, her tone reassuring. "Today was... eventful, to say the least. But I’m holding up."
Cage nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I understand. It was quite a confrontation in there," he remarked, his gaze drifting back towards the mansion. "But you handled yourself admirably. I’m proud of you, Abby." He smiled, caressing her hair gently.
"Are you sure about selling the shares to Harrison?" Cage questioned, his brows furrowing with concern.
Abby nodded firmly, her expression resolute. "Yeah, now it’s for the best so that he leaves me alone."
Cage reached out, gently clasping her hand in reassurance. A warm smile graced his lips as he spoke. "I believe in you, Abby."
Abby returned the smile, feeling a surge of determination coursing through her veins. "Thank you. I think it’s time to show myself to the world. Everyone is curious about the CEO of the uprising technology and e-commerce company in the country. I can’t hide forever."
Cage’s eyes widened in surprise at her bold declaration. "You want to compete with Harrison in the market?" he asked, a mixture of awe and excitement evident in his voice.
Abby’s smile widened into a mischievous grin. "Maybe," she teased, her eyes twinkling with ambition.
Cage chuckled, affectionately ruffling her hair. "I knew you were smart," he remarked, his pride in her noticeable.
As Abby and Cage exchanged comforting words, Remo sat quietly in the back seat of the car, observing the interaction with a growing sense of unease. His grip tightened on the armrest as he watched Cage’s hand brush against Abby’s hair, a flicker of jealousy igniting within him.
With a subtle roll of the window, Remo leaned forward, his voice low but laced with warning. "Keep your hands to yourself, Cage," he muttered, his tone icy. "She’s my wife."
Cage couldn’t resist a mischievous grin as he stared back at Remo with a playful twinkle in his gaze, he leaned forward slightly, his voice dripping with teasing amusement.
"Remo, my friend," Cage began, his tone light but tinged with mischief, "you seem awfully protective of Abby. Are you worried someone might steal her away?"
Remo’s jaw clenched at Cage’s jest, his expression hardening as he met Cage’s gaze. "I’m not worried about anyone stealing her away," he replied evenly, his tone laced with a hint of warning. "But I won’t hesitate to protect what’s mine."
Cage chuckled, unfazed by Remo’s stern demeanor. "Easy there, Remo," he quipped, his grin widening. "I was just making conversation. No need to get defensive."
Abby watched the exchange between Cage and Remo with amusement, a smile playing at the corners of her lips.
Remo shot Cage a pointed look, his gaze hardening with determination. "Just remember, Cage," he said, his voice low but firm, "Abby is off-limits. And if you forget that, you’ll have me to answer to."
Cage raised an eyebrow at Remo’s veiled threat, his grin widening into a smirk. "Noted," he replied smoothly, his tone tinged with amusement. "But don’t worry, Remo. I have no intention of crossing any lines. Her happiness is more important to me."
Abby couldn’t help but laugh at the playful exchange between Remo and Cage. She reached out to squeeze Remo’s hand affectionately, silently reassuring him of her loyalty.
Abby nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her at Cage’s words. She exchanged a final farewell with Cage, offering him a grateful smile before sliding into the car beside Remo.
As they drove away from the Harrison mansion, Abby let out a long exhale, feeling the tension of the day slowly melting away
*************
Lily’s heart twisted with longing as she watched Cage and Abby from her window. He was the one she had always wanted, the one whose attention she craved more than anything. But no matter how hard she tried, he remained out of reach, his indifference cutting her to the core.
Desperate for a taste of his affection, Lily had resorted to a twisted game of desire. She had drawn closer to Alex, Abby’s betrothed , hoping to ignite some spark of jealousy in Cage’s eyes. But instead of drawing him nearer, it seemed to push him further away, his disdain for her growing with each passing day.
The hate in Cage’s eyes had been like a dagger to Lily’s heart, his avoidance of her like a slap in the face. She had thought that by getting closer to Alex, she could somehow make Cage see her, make him realize what he was missing. But all it had done was drive a deeper wedge between them.
And then there was Abby – the object of Cage’s affection, the one he looked at with such adoration. Lily couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy as she watched them together, their connection evident even from a distance. It was clear that Abby had something Lily never could – Cage’s unwavering love and devotion.
But as the realization sank in, a dark thought began to form in Lily’s mind. If she couldn’t have Cage by her looks, perhaps she could do something instead. The idea sent a shiver down her spine, but the allure of finally having something that Abby held dear was too tempting to resist.
As she continued to watch them from her window, a plan began to take shape in Lily’s mind. It was a dangerous game she was playing, one that could have devastating consequences. But in the throes of her obsession, she was willing to risk it all for a chance at the one thing she desired most – Cage’s love
