Chapter 169: Deal

Footsteps sounded and Cage, entered the room, followed closely by Harrison and his legal counsel. He had gone to pick them up himself from the door. Abby’s gaze narrowed as she watched her uncle take his seat, his expression smug and self-assured. She knew that Harrison had used the power of attorney entrusted to him by her father to manipulate the situation to his advantage, and she braced herself for the revelations that were about to unfold.

"Good afternoon, everyone," Cage greeted solemnly as he settled into his chair at the head of the table. "Thank you for gathering here today for the reading of Mr. Falcone’s last will and testament."

Abby’s heart hammered in her chest as Cage retrieved a sealed envelope from his briefcase, the contents of which held the answers she sought. With a sense of gravity, he broke the seal and unfolded the document, his eyes scanning the pages before him.

"As stipulated in Mr. Falcone’s will," Cage began, his voice measured, "the entirety of his estate, including all assets, company shares, properties, and investments, is to be passed on to his daughter, Abigail Falcone."

A wave of relief washed over Abby as she heard her father’s intentions confirmed in his own words. But her relief was short-lived as Cage continued to read, his voice tinged with concern.

"However," he added, "it has come to my attention that prior to his passing, Mr. Falcone granted his friend , James Harrison , power of attorney over his affairs."

Abby clenched her fist, anger bubbling inside her.

"As such," Cage continued, "James Harrison has utilized the power of attorney to transfer a significant portion of Mr. Falcone’s assets into his own name, effectively circumventingthe terms of the will."

A stunned silence enveloped the room as the gravity of Harrison’s actions became clear. Abby felt a surge of fury rise within her, her hands trembling with anger and indignation.

"As the designated executor of the estate," Cage concluded, "it is my duty to ensure that all legal avenues are explored in order to contest the validity of these asset transfers and uphold the integrity of Mr. Falcone’s final wishes."

Harrison’s expression twisted into a sly grin as he addressed Cage, his voice dripping with calculated charm. "Cage, my dear friend, I must say I’m surprised by these accusations. Everything I’ve done, I did with Abby’s best interest at heart. After all, she’s young and inexperienced, and her father’s illness required urgent attention. I simply stepped in to ensure matters were handled smoothly."

His words were laced with deceit, each syllable carefully crafted to obscure his true intentions. Abby’s jaw clenched at his audacity, her anger simmering beneath the surface.

Cage’s gaze narrowed, his skepticism evident as he regarded Harrison with a hint of suspicion. "Mr.Harrison, let’s not mince words. You knew full well the extent of your actions and the implications they would have," he countered, his tone sharp and unwavering. "Attempting to justify your blatant abuse of power as altruism is nothing short of despicable."

Abby’s eyes flashed with fury at Cage’s words, her fists tightening at her sides. Harrison’s facade of innocence grated on her nerves, his arrogance fueling her determination to expose his treachery.

Harrison’s grin faltered for a moment, his mask slipping to reveal a glimmer of uncertainty before he quickly regained his composure. "Cage, my dear boy, you’re mistaken. I assure you, everything was done within the bounds of the law," he protested, his voice smooth but tinged with a hint of malice. "But if you insist on pursuing this matter further, I’m afraid you’ll find yourself sorely disappointed."

His veiled threat hung in the air, a chilling reminder of the lengths to which Harrison would go to protect his own interests. Abby gritted her teeth, refusing to back down in the face of his intimidation tactics.

Cage’s expression remained impassive, his resolve unshaken as he met Harrison’s gaze with steely determination. "We’ll see about that, Harrison," he replied coolly, his tone leaving no room for doubt. "I have every intention of ensuring that justice is served, no matter the obstacles we may encounter."

Harrison turned his attention to Abby, his eyes narrowing with a calculated intensity. "Abby, my dear niece," he began, his voice dripping with false concern, "I can’t help but wonder... Did you truly believe your father’s estate would be handed to you on a silver platter?"

Abby’s jaw clenched at the thinly veiled taunt in Harrison’s question, her resolve hardening against his attempts to undermine her. She met his gaze with steely determination, refusing to be intimidated by his manipulative tactics.

Abby’s lips curled into a smirk as she locked eyes with Harrison, his calculated intensity met with her own unwavering defiance. "Oh, uncle," she replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "I didn’t expect a silver platter. But I sure as hell won’t settle for the scraps you’re trying to throw my way."

Harrison’s facade of concern faltered for a moment, replaced by a flicker of irritation at Abby’s defiance. But he quickly masked his emotions behind a veneer of false sympathy, his smile turning saccharine sweet.

"Ah, Abby, always so headstrong," he remarked with a patronizing chuckle. "But mark my words, my dear, you’ll find that the world can be a cruel and unforgiving place. And sometimes, it takes more than just a will to get what you want."

Abby leaned back in her chair, a nonchalant smile playing at the corners of her lips as she regarded Harrison with cool detachment. "Oh, I’m well aware," she replied, her tone casual despite the tension crackling in the air. "But luckily for you, I’m feeling generous today."

Harrison’s eyebrows shot up in surprise at Abby’s unexpected response, his facade of confidence faltering for a moment. "Generous?" he echoed, his voice tinged with skepticism.

Abby nodded, her expression inscrutable as she continued, "Yes, generous. If you’re so eager to get your hands on what’s rightfully mine, then by all means, let’s make a deal."

A sense of unease flickered across Harrison’s features as he realized he might be walking into a trap, but his greed quickly overrode his caution. "What kind of deal?" he asked, his voice guarded.
