Chapter 166: Stolen inheritance
Cage paced back and forth in his office, his mind consumed by a growing sense of dread. With trembling hands, he dialed Remo’s number, the urgency of the situation weighing heavily on his shoulders.
"Remo, it’s Cage," he greeted, his voice tense with apprehension.
"Cage, what’s wrong?" Remo’s voice was laced with concern, sensing the gravity of Cage’s call.
"I have bad news. Harrison..." Cage’s voice trailed off, the words catching in his throat as he struggled to find the right ones. "He’s used his power of attorney to transfer all of Mr. Falcone’s assets into his own name."
A stunned silence followed Cage’s revelation, the weight of his words hanging heavily between them like a thick fog.
"What?" Remo’s voice finally broke through the silence, sharp with disbelief and anger. "How could he do something like that?"
"I don’t know, Remo," Cage admitted, frustration seeping into his tone. "But it’s true. Almost everything that belonged to Mr. Falcone is now in Harrison’s name. The only thing left untouched are his shares of the company."
Remo’s voice crackled with concern as he posed the crucial question to Cage, "So what happens to Abby’s inheritance now?"
Cage paused, considering the implications before responding. "Abby, as the designated inheritor per her father’s will, potentially has legal avenues to challenge Harrison’s actions and reclaim the assets he wrongfully transferred."
Remo nodded thoughtfully, recognizing the gravity of the situation. "So, she can take things back from Harrison?"
Cage hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "It’s a complex legal process, Remo. Abby would need to initiate legal proceedings to contest the validity of the asset transfers made under Harrison’s power of attorney.
The outcome would depend on various factors, including the evidence presented, applicable laws, and the decisions of the court."
"Cage, realistically, how long will this process take?" Remo asked, his voice tinged with concern.
Cage sighed heavily, knowing the harsh reality of legal proceedings. "Remo, the truth is, contesting the asset transfers and reclaiming Abby’s inheritance could be a lengthy and difficult process. Going back and forth in court could take months, if not years."
Remo’s expression darkened at the thought of such a prolonged battle. "Months? Years? That’s unacceptable. Abby shouldn’t have to wait that long to reclaim what’s rightfully hers."
"I agree, Remo," Cage replied, empathy coloring his tone
"Cage, perhaps the easiest way to resolve this is to take matters into our own hands," Remo suggested, his voice tinged with urgency.
Cage hesitated, knowing the risks involved in such a course of action. "Remo, are you suggesting we bypass the legal system altogether?"
Remo nodded, his tone unwavering. "Yes, Cage. We both know how slow and cumbersome the legal process can be.
With my resources, connections, and influence, we have the means to expedite matters and ensure that justice is served swiftly."
Cage weighed the options, recognizing the potential consequences of taking a more aggressive approach. "It’s risky, Remo. We could face serious repercussions if we’re caught operating outside the law."
Remo’s gaze hardened, his resolve unyielding. "I’m willing to take that risk, Cage. Harrison’s betrayal cannot go unpunished, and Abby deserves better than to wait indefinitely for justice to be served. We have the power to make things right, and I’m not about to let Harrison get away with what he’s done."
Cage nodded solemnly, his decision made. "Very well, Remo. If this is the path you choose, then I’ll stand by you every step of the way. We’ll do whatever it takes to protect Abby and reclaim what’s rightfully hers."
"Good," Remo said before hanging up, his voice tinged with frustration. He sighed heavily, feeling the weight of the conversation settling in his bones.
Abby, sensing his distress, approached quietly. "Is everything okay?" she asked softly, her eyes filled with concern.
Remo looked up, a small smile gracing his lips as he reached out to brush a strand of hair from her face. He pressed a gentle kiss on her forehead. "No... but I would take care of it," he reassured her, though his expression betrayed his inner turmoil.
Abby’s frown deepened. "What’s wrong?" she prodded gently, her hand resting on his arm.
Remo hesitated, his mind racing as he struggled to find the right words. Finally, he spoke, each word weighed down by the gravity of the situation. "It seems Harrison was able to transfer most of your father’s assets into his name when he had the power of attorney."
Abby’s eyes widened in shock, a mixture of disbelief and anger flickering across her face. "But that’s... that’s not possible," she stammered, her voice trembling with emotion.
Remo nodded solemnly, his own anger simmering beneath the surface. "Unfortunately, it seems he found a way. We need to figure out our next steps," he said, his voice firm with determination.
Abby’s hands clenched into tight fists as she absorbed Remo’s words, her breaths coming in short, sharp bursts. Anger bubbled up inside her, a fiery rage threatening to consume her calm facade.
"That conniving snake," she seethed, her voice laced with venom. "How dare he manipulate my father’s trust like that?"
Her eyes blazed with fury, flashing with a mixture of betrayal and indignation.
"He has no right," she spat, her voice rising with each word. "No right to steal what belongs to my family."
Her fists trembled with suppressed rage, her jaw clenched tightly as she struggled to contain the storm of emotions brewing inside her.
"What can we do?" Abby asked Remo, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Remo leaned in closer, his eyes locking onto hers. "What do you want the end result to be, love?" he asked, his tone firm. "Do you want them to land in jail? Do you want them to disappear? Tell me what you want, and we’ll find a way to make it happen."
Abby nodded slowly, her mind swirling with conflicting emotions. She knew what she wanted deep down, but putting it into words felt like crossing a line she never thought she would. "I want all of them to go down," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper. "I want them to feel... helpless, cut off from everything and everyone they’ve ever known. I want their assets, every single thing they own, every single thing they care about. I want it all. But above all, I want everything my father has ever worked for. I want my childhood home they’ve occupied..."
Remo listened intently, his expression unreadable as he absorbed her words. After a moment, he nodded slowly. "We need to attack them from behind, love," he said, his voice low but resolute. "If they see us coming, they’ll safeguard themselves. We need to be strategic, calculated... and ruthless."
"I know. That’s why I want them to taste what success feels like for now," Abby declared, a hint of vindictiveness creeping into her tone. "Let them bask in their illusions of power, of victory. But then, slowly, they’ll watch everything slip out from their hands. Without even knowing what hit them."
