Chapter 165: Bad news
Abby nodded slowly, still trying to wrap her head around the concept. She couldn’t imagine being in such an unconventional relationship, but she could see the genuine love and affection that Beatrix shared with both Damien and Rhys.
Abby turned to look at Remo, seeking reassurance in his familiar gaze. Remo met her eyes with a nod, confirming Beatrix’s statement about her unique relationship with Damien and Rhys.
Seeing the confirmation in Remo’s expression, Abby felt a sense of relief wash over her. Despite the initial shock of learning about Beatrix’s unconventional marriage, she trusted Remo’s judgment and knew that there was more to the story than met the eye.
With a small smile, Abby turned back to Beatrix, her curiosity piqued. "It’s... it’s nice to meet you both," she said softly, her voice tinged with sincerity. "And thank you for explaining. I... I guess I still have a lot to learn."
Beatrix smiled warmly at Abby’s response, her eyes filled with understanding. "No worries, dear," she replied, her tone gentle. "We’re all just figuring things out as we go along."
Beatrix turned to Matteo, her eyes soft with understanding and compassion. "Dad will come tomorrow. He has to take care of something," she reassured him gently. "Have you thought about a name?"
Matteo’s gaze drifted to his newborn daughter, a small smile playing on his lips as he considered Beatrix’s question. "Actually," he began, "I’ve been thinking about it. I want to name her after Remo."
Beatrix’s eyes widened in surprise, a soft gasp escaping her lips. "Remo?" she repeated, her voice filled with emotion. "That’s... that’s a beautiful tribute, Matteo."
Matteo nodded, his heart swelling with pride at the thought of honoring his brother in such a meaningful way. "Yeah," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "Remi. We’ll call her Remi."
Remo stood there, stunned into silence by Matteo’s unexpected announcement. His brother was naming his first daughter after him? The realization washed over Remo like a wave, leaving him speechless and overwhelmed with emotion.
He had never expected such a gesture from Matteo, and the magnitude of the honor left him struggling to find the right words. Remo’s heart swelled with pride and gratitude, his eyes misting over with tears as he looked at Matteo.
Matteo met Remo’s gaze with a small smile, a glimmer of sadness in his eyes. "I know it’s unexpected," he began, his voice soft but resolute. "But I can’t think of a better way to honor you, Remo. You’ve always been there for me, through thick and thin, and naming my daughter after you is the least I can do to repay you."
Remo felt a lump form in his throat at Matteo’s heartfelt words, his chest tight with emotion. He reached out to grasp Matteo’s hand, squeezing it tightly in a wordless gesture of gratitude and brotherhood.
Finally finding his voice, Remo cleared his throat, his words coming out in a hoarse whisper. "Thank you, Matteo," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "I’m... I’m honored. And I promise to be the best uncle to little Remi, just like you’ve been the best brother to me."
"I know you will."
The nurse returned to the room, "I’m sorry, but it’s time to let Stella rest," she announced softly, her voice filled with empathy. "We’ll be taking the baby back to the NICU for monitoring."
Stella nodded tiredly, her eyes filled with exhaustion and concern for her newborn daughter. "Thank you," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "Please take good care of her."
With a reassuring smile, the nurse carefully gathered the baby into her arms and began to make her way out of the room. Matteo reached out to touch his daughter’s tiny hand one last time, his heart heavy with worry for her well-being.
As the door closed behind the nurse, Matteo turned to his family, a sense of sadness weighing heavily on his shoulders. "We should go," he said quietly, his voice tinged with regret. "Stella needs her rest, and there’s nothing more we can do here."
Abby nodded in understanding, her own heart aching for her sister-in-law and the challenges she faced. "You’re right," she agreed softly, reaching out to offer Stella a comforting hug. "We’ll be back soon, Stella. Take care of yourself and little Remi."
With a final farewell to Stella, the small group made their way out of the hospital, the weight of the day’s events pressing down on them like a heavy blanket. As they stepped outside into the cool night air,
Remo turned to Beatrix, concern etched on his features. "How are your children doing?" he inquired, his voice laced with genuine care
Beatrix offered him a reassuring smile. "They’re fine," she replied, her tone filled with warmth. "You should come visit us. They’ve been asking about you nonstop."
Remo’s expression softened at Beatrix’s invitation. "I’d like that," he admitted, his voice tinged with appreciation. "It’s been too long since I’ve seen them."
"Good, come with Abby," Beatrix suggested, her smile widening at the thought of introducing Abby to her children. "I’m sure they’ll be thrilled to meet her."
Remo nodded in agreement, his expression reflecting Beatrix’s enthusiasm. "Absolutely," he affirmed, turning to Abby with a reassuring smile. "What do you say, Abby? Are you up for meeting the little ones?"
Abby’s cheeks flushed with warmth at the prospect, but she nodded eagerly, her own excitement bubbling to the surface. "I’d love to," she replied, her voice filled with genuine eagerness. "Thank you for inviting me, Beatrix. I can’t wait to meet your children."
Beatrix beamed at Abby’s response, her eyes twinkling with excitement. "It’s settled then," she declared, her tone filled with anticipation. "We’ll plan a visit soon, and I’m sure the kids will be thrilled to have you."
Remo’s phone rang, he glanced at the caller ID and saw that it was Cage.
"Let me pick this call, " He said pulling away from the crowd
He picked up the call and Cage voice sounded at the end , "Remo, I have some bad news."
