Chapter 164: My wife
As the door swung open, Beatrix entered the room accompanied by two men, each exuding an aura of power and danger. One had the unmistakable air of a bad boy, with a confident swagger and a mischievous glint in his eyes. The other was quieter, his presence commanding respect and instilling a sense of fear in those around him, despite his lack of words. He radiated an intimidating presence, even more so than Remo.
Beatrix’s expression was one of concern as she entered the room, her eyes immediately drawn to Stella lying in the hospital bed. "Oh, Stella, how are you feeling?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine worry.
Stella managed a weak smile at the sight of her best friend, grateful for her presence in this moment of uncertainty. "I’m hanging in there," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "Just taking it one step at a time."
Beatrix nodded, her eyes scanning the room as she took in the sight of Matteo holding their newborn daughter. "She’s beautiful," she remarked, her voice filled with awe and wonder.
Matteo’s heart swelled with pride at the compliment, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. "Thank you," he said softly, his gaze never leaving their daughter’s face.
The quiet man finally broke his silence, his deep voice cutting through the tension in the room. "You’re finally a man, huh?" he teased Matteo, a smirk playing at the corners of his lips.
Matteo’s glare was met with an amused chuckle from the man, who seemed unfazed by his friend’s reaction. "Not now, Damien," Matteo replied, though there was a hint of amusement in his tone.
Damien shrugged, his expression unapologetic. "What? I’m just congratulating you," he replied, his tone light but tinged with a hint of mischief.
Matteo shook his head, unable to suppress a small smile despite himself. "Thanks, Damien," he said, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Your words mean the world to me."
Beatrix and Stella exchanged amused glances at the banter between Matteo and Damien, grateful for the brief moment of levity amidst the heaviness of the situation.
"At least she’s not ugly like her dad," The second one with the air of bad boy remarked with a smirk as he glanced at Matteo. "She’s beautiful like you, Stella."
Stella’s cheeks flushed with a mixture of embarrassment and amusement at Rhys’s playful jab. Despite the gravity of the situation, his words managed to elicit a small chuckle from her lips.
"Thanks, Rhys," she replied, her voice soft but filled with gratitude. "I’ll take that as a compliment."
Matteo rolled his eyes at the teasing, though a small smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence," he muttered sarcastically, his tone laced with humor.
Rhys grinned, unfazed by Matteo’s response. "Hey, I call it like I see it," he replied nonchalantly, his playful demeanor easing the tension in the room.
Beatrix shook her head at the banter, a fond smile on her face as she watched her brother and her men interact.
Rhys turned to Remo, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he gestured towards Abby. "Remo... who is this?" he asked, his tone playful yet curious.
Abby felt her cheeks flush under Rhys’s gaze, suddenly feeling self-conscious under his scrutiny. She glanced at Remo, silently urging him to introduce her.
Remo smiled warmly at Abby, his hand finding hers as he spoke. "This is Abby," he said, his voice filled with affection. "She’s my wife."
Abby’s heart swelled with pride at Remo’s words, feeling a rush of warmth and love wash over her. Despite her nerves, she couldn’t help but beam at Rhys, grateful for the opportunity to be introduced as Remo’s wife.
Rhys raised an eyebrow in surprise, his playful demeanor softening into genuine warmth. "Your wife, huh?" he remarked, his tone filled with approval. "Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Abby.."
Abby managed a shy smile in response, feeling a sense of belonging wash over her in Rhys’s presence. "Thank you," she replied, her voice tinged with gratitude. "It’s nice to meet you too, Rhys."
"Likewise. But—-why did you marry him?"
Rhys chuckled at Abby’s puzzled expression, his smirk widening into a grin. "Seriously, Abby, did he threaten you with a gun or something?" he teased, his tone light but teasing.
Abby couldn’t help but laugh at Rhys’s remark, shaking her head in amusement. "No, nothing like that," she replied, her voice tinged with laughter. "I married him because I love him, despite his... quirks."
Remo feigned offense at Abby’s comment, placing a hand over his heart in mock hurt. "Quirks? What quirks?" he protested, his tone playful. "I’ll have you know, I’m a perfect gentleman."
Rhys snorted at Remo’s protest, clearly not buying his act. "Yeah, right," he retorted, his grin widening. "Tell me, Abby, how do you put up with him?"
Abby shot Remo a playful glare before turning back to Rhys with a smile. "Oh, you know, it’s all part of the fun," she replied, her tone light but sincere. "Besides, he has his moments."
Beatrix smiled warmly at Abby, extending her hand in a friendly gesture. "Nice to meet you again, Abby," she said warmly. "Meet my husbands, Damien and Rhys."
Abby blinked in surprise, her eyes darting between Beatrix and the two men beside her. Husbands? The word echoed in her mind, sending a jolt of confusion through her. She couldn’t quite wrap her head around the idea—how could Beatrix be married to two men?
As Damien and Rhys exchanged polite nods with Abby, she struggled to find her voice, her mind racing with questions. "H-husbands?" she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper. "Wait, two—both—how?"
Beatrix chuckled at Abby’s bewilderment, a knowing smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Yeah, well, I’m legally married to only Damien," she explained, her tone light but matter-of-fact. "Both of them are mine."
Abby’s eyes widened in shock at Beatrix’s revelation, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment at her own ignorance. She had never heard of such a arrangement before, and the idea of being married to two men simultaneously seemed utterly foreign to her.
Beatrix winked at Abby, as if sensing her confusion. "Don’t worry, dear, it’s not as scandalous as it sounds," she reassured her, her tone gentle. "It’s... complicated, but it works for us."
