Chapter 160: Maybe
Chapter 160: Maybe
The first rays of dawn filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the room as Abby stirred awake. As she blinked away the remnants of sleep, she found herself met with Remo’s gaze, his eyes filled with an unmistakable adoration that made her heart flutter.
"Good morning, sleepyhead," Remo said, his voice soft with affection as he reached out to gently brush her cheek.
Abby’s lips curled into a smile as she stretched lazily, basking in the warmth of Remo’s presence beside her. She couldn’t help but feel a surge of gratitude for the man who had stolen her heart and filled her life with so much love and joy.
"Good morning," she replied, her voice still laced with sleep as she reached out to intertwine her fingers with his. "How long have you been awake?"
Remo shrugged, a playful glint in his eyes. "Not long. I couldn’t resist watching you sleep for a little while longer."
Abby felt her cheeks flush with warmth at his words, touched by his unwavering devotion. She leaned in to press a soft kiss to his lips, savoring the sweetness of the moment.
"How did you sleep?" He asked after they pulled away.
Abby’s eyes twinkled as she returned his smile. "Slept like a log," she said, her voice soft and content. "And I feel... grounded this morning."
"Grounded?" he repeated, lifting an eyebrow in playful curiosity.
"Yeah," Abby nodded, her hand resting gently on his chest. "Like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be."
Her words warmed his heart, and he felt a surge of affection wash over him. "I’m glad to hear that," he replied, reaching out to intertwine his fingers with hers. "Because I feel the same way and I had a dream last night," he revealed, his gaze momentarily lingering on her lips before returning to meet her eyes, which sparkled in the sunlight filtering through the window, tousling her hair delicately.
"Really?" she murmured, her face tilting towards his, silently urging him on. He placed soft kisses along the curve of her lips and trailing down her jawline.
"A dream about us," he confessed, feeling her skin respond to his touch with a shiver of anticipation. "About you and me."
"Was it a good dream?" she responded, a smile played on her lips. Her hand found its way to his face, hovering for a moment before gently running through his hair.
As her fingers threaded through his hair, he couldn’t help but lean into her touch, relishing the warmth and affection she radiated. "It was more than good," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "It was perfect. We were together, just like we are now."
Abby’s smile widened, her eyes meeting his with a softness that melted his heart. "That sounds wonderful," she replied, her voice filled with warmth and tenderness.
"It was," he agreed, pressing a lingering kiss to her cheek before pulling back slightly to gaze into her eyes. "But you know what made it truly special?"
"What?" Abby asked, her curiosity piqued.
"You," he answered simply, his heart overflowing with love for the woman lying beside him. "Having you by my side, sharing every moment, even in my dreams—it’s all I could ever ask for."
Abby teased him, her playful tone dancing through the air like a melody. "Remo, from the way you’re talking, someone would think you’re in love with me."
Abby’s teasing remark hit him like a gentle breeze, stirring a whirlwind of emotions within him. He couldn’t deny the truth behind her playful words, couldn’t ignore the depth of his feelings for her that lingered just beneath the surface. But he had made a promise to himself, a vow to never let himself fall in love again, to guard his heart against the pain of loss.
"Maybe," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper, his heart conflicted between the desire to embrace the love he felt and the fear of what it might cost him.
Abby’s shocked expression didn’t escape his notice, but before she could say anything, he quickly changed the subject, diverting their conversation to safer, more lighthearted topics
"So, Abby," Remo said, steering the conversation towards safer shores, "what do you want for breakfast?"
Abby’s surprise at his sudden change in topic melted into a smile but this was enough for her.
"Hmm, how about some fresh fruit, yogurt, Coffee and croissant?" she suggested, her eyes brightening at the thought.
"Sounds perfect," Remo agreed, returning her smile. With a quick peck on her cheek, he rose from the bed.
"I will order it, freshen up."

After returning from his bath, Remo found Abby waiting for him at the table, a spread of delectable breakfast treats laid out before them. He quickly changed into comfortable attire and joined her, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and croissants filling the air.
Abby poured them each a cup of coffee, her movements graceful and welcoming. "Here," she said, offering him the mug with a warm smile.
"Thank you," Remo replied, taking the coffee with a grateful nod. As they began to eat, a comfortable silence settled between them, broken only by the sounds of their utensils against the plates.
Abby’s appetite seemed to match his own as she hungrily devoured her croissant , the delight evident on her face with every bite. Remo couldn’t help but smile at her enthusiasm, finding joy in the simple pleasure of sharing a meal with her.
Halfway through her breakfast, Abby glanced sideways and caught Remo watching her with an amused expression. She raised an eyebrow in playful inquiry. "What’s so funny?" she asked, a hint of laughter in her voice.
Remo chuckled softly, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Nothing," he replied, his gaze lingering on her. "I just enjoy watching you enjoy your food."
Abby’s cheeks tinged with a faint blush, but she couldn’t hide the smile that tugged at her lips. "Well, I’m glad someone finds my eating habits entertaining," she quipped, her playful tone laced with affection.
Remo laughed, the sound warm and infectious.
"So, what do you want to do today? We only have one day left," Remo said, breaking the comfortable silence that had settled between them.
Abby shrugged, feeling a pang of uncertainty. She wasn’t particularly outgoing and wasn’t sure what people did for fun. "Hmmm, let’s go for a walk once we’re done,"
