The Twisted Obsession
Chapter 147: Ignored.

Chapter 147: Ignored.

After the church session her father was finally taken to the gravesite to be buried beside her mother. As the ceremony drew to a close, Abby stepped forward to place a single white rose on her father’s casket, a symbol of love and remembrance. She lingered for a moment, her hand lingering on the smooth surface of the casket, before stepping back to join Cage.

Together, they watched as the casket was lowered into the ground, the sound of earth hitting wood echoing in the quiet stillness of the cemetery. It was a moment of profound sadness, but also of closure, as Mr. Falcone was laid to rest in his final resting place.

As the ceremony concluded, the mourners began to disperse, offering words of comfort and support to one another as they made their way back to their cars. Abby felt a sense of peace wash over her, knowing that her father was finally at rest.

Cage excused himself to speak to some business people. Leaving her alone.Abby stood silently, her thoughts consumed by the weight of her grief. Lost in her own sorrow, she barely noticed the figure approaching her until she felt arms wrap around her in a tight embrace.

Startled, Abby stiffened for a moment before realizing who it was. With a forced smile, she turned to see her cousin Lily standing before her, her expression a mask of faux concern.

"Abby, sweetie, I’m so sorry for your loss," Lily said, her voice dripping with insincerity. "Your father was such a wonderful man."

Abby fought back a surge of resentment at Lily’s hollow words. She knew all too well the true nature of their relationship, tainted by jealousy and resentment over the years.

"Thank you, Lily," Abby replied, her tone polite but distant. She had no desire to engage in small talk with her cousin, especially not now, when her emotions were raw and her heart heavy with grief.

Lily’s arms lingered around Abby for a moment longer before she pulled away, her gaze shifting uncomfortably. "Um, how are you holding up?" she asked, her voice tinged with forced concern.

Abby forced a smile, though it felt more like a grimace. "I’m managing," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. In truth, she was struggling to hold herself together, but she had no intention of letting Lily see her weakness.

Lily nodded, though her eyes betrayed a flicker of annoyance at Abby’s terse response. "Well, if you need anything, you know where to find me," she said, her words tinged with false sincerity.

Abby nodded politely, though she had no intention of seeking comfort from her cousin.

Instead, Abby turned her attention to her Remo, who had been mingling with other mourners. As he approached her, concern etched on his handsome features.

"Hey, how are you?" Remo asked, his voice filled with genuine concern as he reached out to gently touch Abby’s arm.

Abby offered him a small, appreciative smile. "I’m holding up," she replied softly, her gaze meeting his.

Before she could say more, Lily interjected, her curiosity piqued by Remo’s presence. "Abby, who is this—?" she began, but Remo swiftly cut her off, his tone firm and decisive.

"Let’s go," Remo said, his voice leaving no room for argument as he took Abby’s hand and led her away from Lily without sparing her a second glance.

Abby felt a surge of relief wash over her as Remo whisked her away from the awkward encounter.

As Remo led Abby away from the graveside, Lily watched with growing frustration, her attempts to engage them thwarted by Remo’s decisive intervention. She could hardly believe it—no one had ever dared to ignore her before, let alone a man as handsome and commanding as Remo.

Fuming, Lily crossed her arms over her chest, her eyes narrowing into slits as she watched them walk away. How dare he ignore her? Who did he think he was, treating her like she was beneath his notice?

As the distance between them grew, Lily’s irritation simmered into a boiling rage. She was used to being the center of attention, the one everyone fawned over and catered to. The thought of being dismissed by someone like Remo was intolerable to her.

Gritting her teeth, Lily vowed to make him regret his insolence.

Lily’s father, Mr. Harrison, approached her with a stern expression, his brow furrowed in annoyance. "Lily, have you seen Abby?" he asked, his voice clipped with impatience.

Lily turned back to her father, a smug smirk playing on her lips. "Actually, I saw her leaving with a man," she said, her voice dripping with satisfaction.

Her father’s eyes widened in surprise. "A man?" he repeated, his voice tinged with disbelief. "Was it someone we know? Was he... associated with Abby?"

Lily shrugged nonchalantly, enjoying the sense of power her revelation brought. "I’m not sure," she replied coyly. "But he seemed pretty protective of her. Maybe he’s the one who’s been looking out for her all this time."

Mr. Harrison’s brow furrowed with concern as he processed Lily’s words. He had always been wary of anyone who associated with Abby, fearing they might be a threat to their family’s reputation and interests.

"But I didn’t see anyone with her," he mused, his voice tinged with confusion. "Who could it have been?"

Lily shrugged again, enjoying the opportunity to keep her father in the dark. "I don’t know," she said with a shrug. "But whoever he is, he’s definitely got Abby’s back. Maybe we should keep an eye out for him too."

With that, Lily turned and walked away, leaving her father to ponder the implications of Abby’s mysterious companion.

As Lily made her way through the crowd, her mind buzzed with curiosity about the mysterious man who had been seen with Abby. There was something intriguing about him, something that piqued her interest in a way she couldn’t quite explain.

She had always loved a challenge, and the idea of unraveling the mystery surrounding Abby’s companion thrilled her. Who was he? What was his connection to Abby? And most importantly, how could she get closer to him?

A sly smile tugged at the corners of Lily’s lips as she mulled over the possibilities. She was determined to find out more about this enigmatic stranger, to uncover the secrets he held and to make him hers.
