Chapter 141: My darling wife

Remo’s POV

Abby was curled in Remo’s lap, her body tense with the weight of her thoughts, as if each one were a heavy burden she could barely bear. Remo held her close, his arms wrapped protectively around her, his touch a comforting anchor in the storm of her emotions.

For what felt like hours, but couldn’t have been more than 15 minutes, they remained in silence, Abby lost in the tumultuous sea of her mind and Remo struggling to find the right words to soothe her. He whispered reassurances, tender words of comfort, but it felt like trying to diffuse a time bomb, never knowing which wire might set it off.

The realization hit him like a tidal wave – Abby had never truly known comfort, never experienced the warmth of unconditional love and support apart from her father. The thought of her battling with these demons alone, feeling worthless and alone, tore at his heart.

To imagine that such darkness could overshadow someone’s life for so long, fueled by the cruelty of others, was almost unbearable. Remo felt crushed for her, aching to take away her pain and replace it with the love and acceptance she deserved.

As Abby struggled with her inner demons, Remo found himself wrestling with his own emotions. It was all too much to process at once – the weight of Abby’s pain, his own feelings of helplessness and frustration.

By the time Abby managed to calm herself down to a few sharp breaths, Remo was still grappling with his own thoughts. He longed to be the pillar of strength she needed, to be her rock in times of trouble, but he couldn’t deny the overwhelming sense of inadequacy that gnawed at him.

It was overwhelming, a torrent of emotions crashing over Remo, unfamiliar and disorienting. Trying to grasp Abby’s struggles felt like explaining colors to someone who had never seen them. He felt out of his depth, as if he were navigating uncharted waters.

The turmoil within him was palpable, a jumble of conflicting feelings swirling in his mind. He couldn’t shake the devastation he felt over Abby’s past, the anguish over her actions, and the lingering hurt from recent events. And then there was the unexpected surge of affection, a tidal wave threatening to engulf him because she had finally let him in.

Remo wrestled with the truth, unable to deny the depth of his feelings for her. He had been afraid to fall in love again, the fear of heartache paralyzing him. Yet, here he was, unable to deny the growing attachment he felt towards her. It scared him, this realization that he cared for her deeply, that he wanted to protect her and be there for her.

The truth surprised him, catching him off guard with its intensity. He found it hard to accept, this burgeoning affection that seemed to take root in his heart. It was as if a part of him resisted, afraid of the vulnerability that came with loving someone so deeply.

But despite his fears, Remo knew one thing for certain: he couldn’t deny the connection he felt with Abby, the bond that had formed between them. And as he grappled with his emotions, he couldn’t help but acknowledge the truth that lay beneath the surface – he cared for her more than he had ever cared for anyone else in a long time.

Observing the way Abby had been with him since their arrangement, and witnessing her vulnerability as she bared her fears, Remo could sense the depth of her emotions. He realized that she had been willing to expose herself, despite her crippling fear, just to ensure she wouldn’t lose him. The realization that he held such significance to her was enough to solidify his theory.

He felt like a fool for ever thinking he could resist her, for denying the possibility of falling in love with her. Now, however, he was certain that he was ready to open his heart again. He would willingly give her his all, even if it meant laying his heart bare at her feet. When it came to Abby, he had reached a level of madness, and he saw her as his sanctuary, a safe haven amidst the chaos of his emotions.

"Abby?" he asked, his voice barely audible, his tone soft and gentle like a feather in the wind.

"Yeah?" she responded, her voice raw with emotion, a testament to the turmoil within her.

Running his fingers through her hair, Remo kept his voice calm and reassuring. "When you feel like you’re slipping away, please tell me," he pleaded, concern etched in his voice.

She pulled her face back, sitting up straighter while still keeping her arms around his waist, as if desperate to maintain their closeness. Remo leaned back slightly to look at her, his heart clenching at the sight of her wrecked appearance. Her eyes were red, cheeks flushed, evidence of the turmoil she had just endured within her own mind.

Gently, he reached his hands up to swipe his thumbs over her cheeks, wiping away any residual moisture. He wished he could erase all the pain she carried with such a simple gesture

"You sure you weren’t going to get overwhelmed and leave me?" Abby asked cautiously, her voice tinged with uncertainty. Remo shook his head.

"I am not going anywhere," he assured her, his voice firm and unwavering.

Abby tightened her arms around him, leaning forward to peck his lips before settling back against him. "Then I would let you in," she murmured, her voice filled with a mixture of vulnerability and trust.

She relaxed against him, leaning her head against his shoulder, and he rested his cheek against the top of her head, savoring the closeness and the warmth of their embrace.

"So," Remo cleared his throat, trying to break the tension. "What do you want to do now? Are you hungry?"

Abby pulled away, her lower lip caught between her teeth as she tilted her head to the side, a coy smile playing on her lips. "Mmmm," she hummed thoughtfully. "I-I am not really hungry, but I really just want to kiss you now."

Remo couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement at her words, his insides twisting with anticipation as she looked at him with such desire. He couldn’t explain the whirlwind of emotions that had swept through them today, but he wouldn’t change a thing, not when he felt this way with her.

He relished in the moments when she wasn’t shy around him, when she told him exactly what she wanted. Her eyes darted over his face, filled with emotions that threatened to overwhelm him with his own emotions.

"So do you still want me? After everything?" she asked, her hand reaching up to smooth her hair from her face and tuck it behind her ear.

"More than anything," he told her honestly, his heart swelling with affection for her.

He grinned, moving his hand to grip the back of her neck as he pulled her face to his, connecting their mouths in a passionate kiss. His lips caressed hers, and he couldn’t help but smile against them.

"My sweet darling wife," he whispered, his heart overflowing with love for her. She smiled back, neither of them caring about how messy and imperfect the kiss was, because in that moment, they were lost in each other’s embrace.
