Chapter 136: Discharged
Chapter 136: Discharged
It was the day Abby was supposed to be discharged from the hospital after she slit her wrist.
The air in the room hung heavy with tension as Remo, waited anxiously for the doctor’s conclusion. He had been by her side throughout her ordeal, a steadfast presence in the face of her inner turmoil.
Finally, the doctor emerged, his expression grave as he approached Remo. "Mr. Quinn," he began, his voice gentle yet resolute, "your wife’s physical wounds are healing well, but it’s her emotional well-being that concerns me the most."
Remo’s heart sank at the doctor’s words, a wave of apprehension washing over him. He had hoped that Abby’s hospitalization would mark the beginning of her recovery, but it seemed that the road ahead would be far more challenging than he had anticipated.
"What do you mean?" Remo asked, his voice barely above a whisper, his eyes betraying his fear of what the doctor might say next.
The doctor hesitated for a moment before continuing, his tone sympathetic. "Abby’s actions indicate deep-seated emotional distress," he explained. "I strongly recommend that she see a therapist to address the underlying issues that led her to this point. From my experience and the past history she gave me I know this isn’t her first attempt but I definitely hope it’s the last one."
Remo nodded slowly, his mind reeling at the gravity of the doctor’s words. He knew that Abby had been struggling in the aftermath of her father’s death, but he had never imagined that her pain ran so deep.
"Thank you, doctor," Remo replied, his voice tinged with gratitude. "We’ll make sure she gets the help she needs."
"Okay, please do. Mental health isn’t something to be taken lightly. I’m glad Abby has you." The doctor remarked before he left the room.
As the doctor left the room, Remo turned to Abby,
"Hi Abby, we are going home," Remo said gently, his voice infused with warmth and reassurance as he approached her bedside. "We can finally leave this place."
Abby looked up at him, her eyes reflecting a mixture of relief and apprehension. Leaving the hospital meant facing the outside world again, a prospect that filled her with both hope and uncertainty.
"Home," she repeated softly, Abby found herself grappling with a new set of fears and uncertainties. What awaited her beyond the confines of the hospital walls? Would she be able to navigate the treacherous waters of her family’s empire, or would she succumb to the pressures that threatened to engulf her? She was afraid to go back to that place. The memories were overwhelming.
As if sensing her turmoil, Remo grabbed her hand, "Don’t worry everything will be fine."
Abby managed a small, tentative smile, her eyes flickering with uncertainty. "I-I can... we stay at the new house you bought me?" she asked hesitantly. "I don’t think I’m ready to go back to our place. The memories—"
Remo nodded in understanding, his expression softening with empathy. "Of course, Abby," he replied gently, his voice a comforting presence amidst the turmoil of emotions. "Alright, I will let Tony prepare it for us."
Nurse Lawson, her attending nurse, entered the room with a reassuring smile. "Well, Abby, it looks like you’re ready to go home."
Abby nodded, trying to muster a smile despite the fatigue weighing down her limbs. "I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed."
Nurse Lawson chuckled softly, her eyes reflecting genuine warmth. "I bet. Now, before you leave, let’s go over your discharge instructions."
Abby listened attentively as nurse Lawson outlined her medication regimen, follow-up appointments, and dietary recommendations. She nodded along, determined to adhere to every detail to ensure a smooth recovery.
As the final paperwork was signed and her belongings gathered, she was finally free to go home.
"Thank you, Nurse Lawson," Remo said, his voice carrying a note of warmth and respect. "We truly appreciate all of your help."
Nurse Lawson returned his gratitude with a smile, her admiration evident in the way she glanced at Remo. She had heard whispers of his status as one of the country’s most prominent figures—a man of power and influence whose name carried weight in every boardroom and social circle yet he had taken care of his wife by himself throughout her stay at the hospital. She was impressed. Some wealthy men were too busy to even visit their sick wives or children. But this man rarely left her side. Abby was really lucky.
After they were done with the discharge procedure ,two of Remo’s man came to pick their things as Remo carried Abby in a bridal style asp they made their way out of the hospital.
Outside, a sleek black car awaited them, its polished exterior gleaming in the sunlight.
The driver greeted Abby and Remo as he opened the door for them.
With practiced ease, Remo ushered Abby into the backseat, ensuring her comfort before settling in beside her. As the car pulled away from the curb, Abby stole a glance at Remo, her heart swelling with gratitude for the man who had stood by her side through it all.
Remo met her gaze with a reassuring smile, his eyes filled with an unmistakable warmth.
Abby laid her head on Remo’s chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath her ear. In that moment, surrounded by his warmth and strength, she felt a sense of peace wash over her—a calm amidst the chaos of the world outside.
Remo gently brushed a strand of hair away from Abby’s face, his touch tender and comforting.
Remo, sensing her need for comfort, gently wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. Leaning down, he pressed a tender kiss to her hair, his lips lingering against the soft strands as he breathed in the scent of her shampoo.
"Everything’s going to be alright, Abby," he murmured softly, his voice a soothing melody in the quiet of the car. "I’ll always be here for you, no matter what."
