The Twisted Obsession -
Chapter 132: Obessesion
Chapter 132: Obessesion
Remo’s brow furrowed with suspicion, his protective instincts kicking into high gear at the thought of leaving Cage alone with Abby.
He didn’t want to risk anything, especially given the fragile state Abby was in after her recent ordeal.
"I’m not sure about that," Remo replied, his voice tinged with reluctance. "I’d prefer to stay here with Abby."
Cage nodded understandingly, his expression remaining calm despite Remo’s hesitation. "I understand your concern, Remo," he said, his tone reassuring. "But I promise it won’t take long. There’s something important I need to discuss with Abby."
Remo glanced at Abby, silently seeking her opinion. Abby met his gaze with a reassuring smile, her eyes filled with trust and understanding. "It’s okay, Remo," she said softly. "I’ll be fine."
Reluctantly, Remo acquiesced, his gaze lingering on
Abby for a moment longer before he nodded his consent. "Alright," he relented, his voice tinged with apprehension. "But I’ll be right outside if you need anything."
"You finally got him, huh?" Cage remarked once Remo left the room, his tone laced with a mixture of amusement and skepticism. Abby’s heart sank at his words, her body tensing with guilt as she braced herself for what was to come.
Abby’s eyes flickered with unease as Cage approached, his presence looming over her like a dark cloud. She swallowed hard, her throat suddenly dry as she struggled to find the right words to defend herself.
Cage took a seat beside Abby, his movements calculated and deliberate. He reached out, taking her hands in his own and tracing his fingers along the scars on her wrists. Abby flinched at his touch, her guilt washing over her in waves.
"Did it hurt?" Cage asked casually, his voice betraying none of the malice lurking beneath the surface. Abby pulled her hands away instinctively, a surge of shame flooding her veins as she avoided Cage’s gaze.
Ignoring Abby’s discomfort, Cage chuckled softly, the sound grating on her nerves like sandpaper. "I knew you were obsessed with your best friend’s fiancé," he continued, his voice dripping with scorn. "But I didn’t realize the obsession ran so deep that you would go to him for a marriage contract. Do you honestly think he would want you when he finds out the truth? When he realizes just how messed up you really are?"
Abby’s breath caught in her throat at Cage’s words, her heart pounding in her chest as she struggled to process the gravity of his accusations. She felt a cold sweat break out across her brow, her mind racing as she searched desperately for a way to defend herself.
But deep down, Abby knew that Cage was right. She had made a terrible mistake, one that had not only jeopardized her relationship with Remo, but had also put her own well-being at risk. And as she sat there, face to face with the consequences of her actions, she couldn’t help but wonder if she would ever be able to make things right, or if she was doomed to pay for her mistakes for the rest of her life.
No one knew her better than Cage – he had been her lifeline, her confidant, her only friend in a world filled with darkness.
The memories flooded back, swirling around her like a whirlwind of emotions. The first time they had met – she had been on the brink of oblivion, ready to end it all, and he had saved her from the abyss. Her father, ever the nobleman, had been indebted to him for his act of heroism, but it was more than that. They had discovered that Cage was the illegitimate son of the Sinclair family, and he had been suffering in silence, abused and neglected after the death of his mother.
Her father had taken him in, treating him like a son, like a brother to Abby. And during that time, Cage had become her closest friend, the only one who truly understood just how messed up she was beneath the facade of privilege and wealth.
But fate had a cruel sense of irony – just when everything started going downhill, Cage was out of the country, thousands of miles away when Abby needed him the most.
Abby’s voice trembled with emotion as she spoke, her words a desperate plea for understanding. She looked at Cage, her eyes pleading for him to see the truth in her words, to understand the impossible choice she had been forced to make.
"I couldn’t get hold of you," Abby began, her voice choked with emotion. "I had no one. Frederick suggested I go to him – he was my only chance of survival. You can’t blame me, Cage. You disappeared out of thin air."
She paused, taking a deep breath to steady herself before continuing. "The Harrisons made my life miserable," she admitted, her voice tinged with bitterness. "Without you there to protect me, I was at their mercy. I had no choice but to turn to Remo for help."
Abby’s gaze bore into Cage’s, her eyes pleading for him to understand the impossible situation she had found herself in. She knew that her actions had hurt him, that he felt betrayed by her betrayal. But she couldn’t deny the truth – without Cage by her side, she had been vulnerable, exposed to the cruelty of those who sought to tear her down.
"I’m sorry, Cage," Abby whispered, her voice barely above a hoarse whisper. "I never meant to hurt you. You’ve always been there for me, and I’ll never forget that. But please, try to understand – I did what I had to do to survive."
"I’m sorry, Abby," Cage began, his voice tinged with regret as he looked at her with sincerity in his eyes. "I didn’t mean to leave you. I was attacked – I nearly lost my life."
Abby’s expression softened, her heart aching with empathy for Cage’s ordeal. She reached out, instinctively placing a gentle hand on his arm in a gesture of comfort and understanding.
"I had no idea, Cage," Abby murmured, her voice filled with genuine concern. "I can’t imagine what you must have gone through."
Cage nodded, a faint smile flickering across his lips as he met Abby’s gaze. "It’s been a rough time," he admitted, his voice tinged with exhaustion. "But you know as well as I do, it’s time for the Old Man of the Sinclair to announce the CEO of the company."
Abby nodded in understanding, the weight of Cage’s words sinking in. She knew that the power struggles within the Sinclair family were fierce and unforgiving, and she could only imagine the lengths some would go to in order to secure their place at the top.
"Some people don’t want me in the family," Cage continued, his tone resigned. "They know I had your father’s backing, and they had to get rid of me quickly."
Abby’s heart went out to Cage, her mind racing with the implications of his words. She knew that the Sinclair family was no stranger to betrayal and intrigue, but she never imagined that Cage would become a target in their ruthless power games.
"I’m so sorry, Cage," Abby whispered, her voice filled with empathy. "You’ve always been there for me, and I’ll always be here for you. We’ll get through this together."
"Yeah, we will get our revenge," Cage affirmed, his jaw set with resolve. "I won’t let the Harrisons go for how they treated you. I will make sure they pay dearly."
