The Twisted Obsession -
Chapter 131: Cage
Chapter 131: Cage
The day after Abby woke up, the sun streamed through the hospital window, casting a warm glow over the room. Abby blinked against the brightness, her eyes adjusting to the light as she took in her surroundings. Remo was sitting by her bedside, his presence a comforting anchor amidst the unfamiliarity of the hospital room.
"How are you feeling today?" Remo asked, his voice soft with concern as he reached out to brush a stray lock of hair away from Abby’s face.
Abby offered him a weak smile, grateful for his unwavering support. "Better," she replied, her voice still hoarse from days of disuse. "A little sore, but better."
Remo nodded, his eyes filled with relief. "That’s good to hear," he said, his hand finding hers and giving it a gentle squeeze. "The doctor said you’re making good progress."
As they talked, there was a sudden knock at the door, breaking the peaceful atmosphere of the room. Remo got up to answer it, and Abby watched as a man entered, wearing a nose mask and a cap. She furrowed her brows in confusion, wondering who he could be.
Once inside, the man removed his mask and cap, revealing his handsome features to the room. He had striking eyes the color of stormy skies, a chiseled jawline, and a smile that exuded confidence.
Abby’s breath caught in her throat as recognition dawned on her. "Cage," she whispered, her voice barely above a hoarse whisper.
Cage’s gaze swept over Abby, a fleeting of emotions crossing his face before he walked towards her and pulled her into a hug. The embrace was intimate, too intimate for Remo’s liking, and jealousy surged within him as he watched them.
"I was afraid I had lost you, sugar," Cage murmured, his voice filled with genuine concern as he held Abby close.
Remo clenched his jaw, his fists tightening at his sides as he struggled to contain his emotions. Why was the family lawyer so close to Abby? It felt like a betrayal, as if Cage’s presence was a threat to the fragile bond between him and Abby.
They pulled apart, and Cage held Abby’s cheeks in his hands, his gaze searching hers with intensity. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice soft and filled with emotion.
Before Abby could respond, Remo cleared his throat, announcing his presence in the room. His eyes locked with Cage’s, a silent challenge passing between them as the tension thickened in the air.
Cage’s gaze shifted from Abby to Remo, a flicker of surprise crossing his features before he composed himself with practiced ease. He released Abby’s cheeks and turned to acknowledge Remo, his expression unreadable.
"Remo," Cage greeted, his voice neutral but tinged with a hint of curiosity. "Good to see you again ."
Remo nodded in response, his jaw clenched tight as he forced himself to maintain a facade of civility. "Likewise," he replied tersely, his eyes never leaving Cage’s.
Abby watched the exchange between the two men, a knot of unease forming in the pit of her stomach. She could sense the tension in the air, thick and palpable, as if a storm were brewing just beneath the surface.
"Um, Cage?, what are you doing here?" Abby interjected, trying to diffuse the growing tension in the room.
Cage’s gaze softened as he turned back to Abby, a small smile gracing his lips. "I came to check on you, of course," he replied, his voice gentle. "I wanted to make sure you were doing okay after everything that happened."
Abby felt a surge of gratitude towards Cage, despite the lingering sense of unease that lingered in the air. He had always been there for her, a steady presence in her life, and she couldn’t help but appreciate his concern.
"Thank you, Cage," Abby said sincerely, reaching out to squeeze his hand in gratitude. "I really appreciate it."
Cage returned her smile, his eyes softening with warmth as he squeezed her hand in return. "Anytime, Abby," he said softly. "You know I’ll always be here for you."
"When did you find him, Remo?" Abby asked, her voice tinged with curiosity and a hint of apprehension.
Remo hesitated for a moment, his gaze flickering between Abby and Cage before he spoke. "The day... the day you... you tried to..." He trailed off, his voice catching in his throat as he struggled to find the right words.
"We found you unconscious," Remo continued, his voice soft with emotion. "Cage was there, he helped us bring you to the hospital. But then he said he had to leave to take care of some business."
Abby’s brow furrowed in confusion as she processed Remo’s explanation. She remembered fragments of that day, flashes of pain and despair that seemed to blur together in her mind. But she had no recollection of Cage being there, of his presence in the moments before she had slipped into unconsciousness.
"I don’t... I don’t remember," Abby admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I’m sorry, Remo. I don’t remember any of it."
Remo reached out, his hand finding hers and giving it a gentle squeeze. "It’s okay, Abby," he reassured her, his eyes filled with understanding. "You were in a bad place, and none of it was your fault."
Abby nodded.
"Dad... he’s no more," Abby whispered, her voice barely above a hoarse whisper. "I don’t know what to do."
Cage’s expression softened with sympathy as he reached out to place a comforting hand on Abby’s shoulder. "I’m so sorry, Abby," he said softly, his voice filled with genuine concern. "I know how much your father meant to you."
Abby nodded, tears welling up in her eyes as she struggled to come to terms with the magnitude of her loss. Her father had been more than just a parent – he had been her mentor, her confidant, her rock in times of need. And now, with his sudden passing, she felt adrift, unsure of how to navigate the turbulent waters ahead.
"What do I do now, Cage?" Abby asked, her voice trembling with uncertainty. "I don’t know anything about running his business, about handling his affairs. I feel lost."
Cage squeezed her shoulder gently, his gaze steady and reassuring. "You don’t have to do this alone, Abby," he reassured her. "I’ll help you every step of the way. We’ll figure it out together."
Cage turned to Remo, his gaze steady as he addressed him directly. "Can I talk to Abby alone?" he asked, his tone polite but firm.
