The Twisted Obsession -
Chapter 119: Sorry
Chapter 119: Sorry
Remo quietly opened Abby’s door, the soft sound of her muffled sobs echoed in the darkness, sending a pang of pain straight to his heart. He stepped into the room and closed the door behind him, the soft click barely audible in the stillness of the night.
Approaching her bed, he could see Abby curled up in a ball, her body shaking with the force of her tears. Without a word, Remo laid down beside her and gently wrapped his arms around her trembling form, pulling her close in a tight embrace.
Abby’s sobs grew louder at his touch, her tears soaking into the fabric of his shirt as she buried her face against his chest. For a long moment, they remained like that, wrapped in each other’s arms, the only sound in the room the hitching of Abby’s breath.
When Abby’s tears finally began to subside, she pulled away slightly, her eyes red and swollen from crying. She looked up at Remo with a mixture of sorrow and remorse, her voice choked with emotion as she spoke.
"I’m sorry, Remo," she whispered, her words barely more than a hoarse whisper. "I didn’t mean what I said earlier. I was just... angry and hurt, and I lashed out without thinking."
Remo’s heart ached at the pain in her voice, the raw vulnerability shining in her eyes. Gently brushing a strand of hair away from her face, he met her gaze with understanding and compassion.
"It’s okay, Abby," he murmured, his voice soft and soothing. "I know you didn’t mean it. We’ve both been through so much, and sometimes it’s hard to see past the pain."
Abby nodded, her shoulders sagging with exhaustion as the weight of her emotions threatened to overwhelm her. Leaning into Remo’s embrace once more, she allowed herself to find solace in his presence, grateful for the warmth and comfort he offered.
As they lay together in the darkness, the quiet rhythm of their breathing slowly syncing in harmony, Abby felt a sense of peace settle over her and fell asleep due to exhaustion.
After Abby fell asleep in Remo’s arms, he pressed a tender kiss on her forehead before gently covering her with the blanket. With one last lingering look, he quietly slipped out of the room, careful not to disturb her peaceful slumber.
As he emerged into the hallway, Remo found Tony waiting for him at the entrance to the study. His expression was grave, his eyes reflecting concern as he glanced towards Abby’s closed door.
"Is Abby okay?" Tony asked softly, his voice filled with genuine worry.
Remo sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair as he tried to gather his thoughts. "She’s... she’s struggling," he admitted, his voice tinged with sadness.
"Losing her father has hit her hard, Tony. She’s grieving, and she’s angry, and I don’t know how to help her."
Tony nodded in understanding, his expression sympathetic as he placed a comforting hand on Remo’s shoulder. "Grief is a heavy burden to bear," he said quietly. "But she’s not alone, Remo. You’re here for her, and so am I. We’ll help her through this."
Remo managed a weak smile, grateful for Tony’s unwavering support. "Thank you, Tony," he said sincerely. "
Tony squeezed his shoulder reassuringly before gesturing towards the study. "Let’s talk inside," he suggested. "Maybe we can come up with a plan to help Abby cope with her loss."
Nodding in agreement, Remo followed Tony into the study, feeling a glimmer of hope stir within him.
As Remo and Tony settled into the study, Remo couldn’t shake the weight of concern that pressed heavily on his shoulders. "Tony, do you have any leads?" he asked, his voice tinged with frustration.
"Anything that could help us understand what happened at the carnival?"
Tony sighed heavily, his expression grave. "I’m afraid not, Remo," he admitted regretfully. "We’ve been looking into it, but so far, we haven’t uncovered anything substantial. It’s like whoever orchestrated the attack vanished into thin air."
Remo clenched his jaw, frustration simmering beneath the surface. "Damn it," he muttered under his breath, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
"We can’t let them get away with this. They took Charles from us, Tony. And now Martha’s missing too."
Tony’s brow furrowed in concern. "Speaking of Martha," he began hesitantly, "don’t you find it odd that we haven’t heard from her since the incident? I mean, she was with us at the carnival, wasn’t she?"
Remo’s heart skipped a beat as the realization washed over him. "You’re right," he replied, his voice tinged with unease. "We were all together, but I haven’t seen or heard from Martha since everything happened. And given the chaos, I didn’t even think about it until now."
A sense of foreboding settled over Remo as he considered the implications of Martha’s disappearance.
"We need to find her," he declared, his voice firm with determination. "Whatever happened at the carnival, Martha might have answers. We can’t afford to overlook any leads."
Tony nodded in agreement, his expression mirroring Remo’s sense of urgency. "I’ll start making some calls," he said resolutely. "We’ll find Martha, Remo. I promise."
Remo’s frustration deepened as Tony’s words sank in. "And what about Abby’s father’s lawyer?" he inquired, his tone laced with concern. "Have we been able to track him down?"
Tony shook his head grimly. "No luck there either," he admitted with a sigh. "The man seems to be a master at staying off the grid, or he’s being protected by someone powerful.
Every lead we’ve followed has either led to a dead end or mysteriously vanished into thin air."
Remo clenched his fists in frustration, feeling the weight of responsibility pressing down on him.
"Damn it," he muttered through gritted teeth, his mind racing with possibilities.
As Tony’s words sank in, Remo felt a surge of frustration and helplessness wash over him. "So, we’re back to square one," he muttered, his tone heavy with disappointment. "It’s like chasing shadows in the dark."
Tony nodded grimly, his expression mirroring Remo’s frustration
Tony nodded in agreement with Remo’s assessment. "I understand what you mean. It’s like trying to catch smoke in your hands," he remarked, his voice tinged with frustration. "But we can’t let it get to us. We have to keep pushing forward."
Remo sighed heavily, his mind racing with possibilities. "Have you been keeping an eye on the Harrisons?" he asked suddenly, his brow furrowing with concern.
Tony nodded. "Of course, we have," he replied. "But so far, there’s been nothing to suggest their involvement. They seem to be just as in the dark as we are."
Remo frowned, his thoughts swirling with uncertainty. "I didn’t think it was them anyway," he muttered, more to himself than to Tony. "Whoever planned this was too smart, too calculated. They covered their tracks too well for it to be the Harrisons."
Tony’s expression grew grave as he considered Remo’s words. "You may be right," he conceded. "But that only adds to the mystery. If it’s not the Harrisons, then who could it be?"
