Chapter 113: Ferris wheel

The sun hung high in the sky, casting a warm glow over the bustling streets as Abby, Remo, Martha, and Charles made their way to the carnival. Excitement hummed in the air, mingling with the laughter of children and the tantalizing aroma of cotton candy and popcorn.

Abby’s heart swelled with anticipation as they approached the entrance, her hand entwined with Remo’s. She stole a glance at him, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I can’t believe we’re finally here," she exclaimed, a wide smile lighting up her face.

Remo returned her smile, his eyes shining with happiness. "It’s going to be a great day," he replied, his voice filled with warmth.

Martha and Charles walked beside them, their expressions reflecting the same sense of joy and anticipation. Martha’s eyes sparkled with childlike wonder as she took in the colorful sights and sounds of the carnival, while Charles’s face was alight with a rare smile, his spirits lifted by the company of his loved ones.

As they entered the carnival grounds, Abby couldn’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia wash over her. The familiar sights and sounds brought back memories of her childhood, of carefree days spent exploring the wonders of the carnival with her parents by her side.

But amidst the joyous atmosphere, Abby couldn’t shake the sense of unease that lingered at the back of her mind. She knew that her father’s life and hers was in danger and she couldn’t help but worry about their safety, especially with Remo by her side.

As if sensing her concern, Remo reached out to squeeze her hand reassuringly. "Don’t worry, Abby," he whispered, his voice low but comforting. "We’ll stick together, and we’ll be fine."

Abby nodded, grateful for his reassuring words. With Remo by her side, she knew that she had nothing to fear.

But amidst the laughter and excitement, Abby couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched. She glanced around, her eyes scanning the crowd for any signs of danger, but all she saw were smiling faces and carefree laughter.

Unbeknownst to Abby, a pair of discreet bodyguards had been assigned to accompany them to the carnival, blending seamlessly into the crowd as they kept a watchful eye on their every move. Dressed in casual attire, they mingled with the carnival-goers, their presence all but invisible to the untrained eye.

As Abby and her family enjoyed the carnival, the bodyguards remained vigilant, their trained eyes scanning the crowd for any potential threats. They moved with the ease and grace of seasoned professionals, their focus unwavering as they ensured the safety of their charges.

Despite the underlying tension, Abby couldn’t help but lose herself in the magic of the carnival, reveling in the joy and laughter that surrounded her.

As Abby and Remo strolled through the colorful chaos of the carnival, their eyes caught sight of the towering Ferris wheel, its brightly lit gondolas ascending gracefully into the sky. Abby’s heart skipped a beat at the sight, her gaze lingering on the giant wheel with a mix of excitement and nervousness.

"Hey, Abby, how about we take a ride on the Ferris wheel?" Remo suggested, his voice filled with playful enthusiasm.

Abby hesitated for a moment, her eyes flickering nervously to the towering structure. "I don’t know, Remo," she replied, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "It looks pretty high up there."

Remo grinned, his eyes sparkling with mischief as he gently took her hand in his. "Come on, Abby, don’t tell me you’re afraid of a little height," he teased, his tone light and playful.

Abby flushed with embarrassment, her cheeks tinged with pink as she shot him a playful glare. "I’m not afraid," she protested, her voice betraying her nervousness. "I just...don’t really like heights."

Remo chuckled, his warm laughter washing over her like a soothing balm. "Don’t worry, Abby, I’ll be right here with you the whole time," he reassured her, his voice gentle and reassuring.’

Martha, ever the caring companion, offered to stay behind with Charles, since he was too weak to go the wheel. With a grateful nod, Abby and Remo assured her they would be back soon, their hearts brimming with anticipation for the intimate moment that awaited them atop the Ferris wheel

Abby allowed Remo to lead her towards the entrance of the Ferris wheel. As they waited in line, she couldn’t help but feel a flutter of excitement mixed with apprehension churning in her stomach.

Finally, it was their turn to board the gondola, and Abby’s heart pounded in her chest as they stepped inside. She clutched onto Remo’s hand tightly, her knuckles turning white with nervousness as the Ferris wheel began to ascend into the sky.

As they rose higher and higher, Abby couldn’t help but feel a surge of panic rising within her. She squeezed her eyes shut, unable to bear the sight of the ground disappearing beneath them.

Remo sensed her unease and wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close to him. "Hey, Abby, look at me," he whispered, his voice soft and reassuring. "You’re safe with me, okay? I won’t let anything happen to you."

Abby forced herself to open her eyes, her gaze meeting Remo’s warm brown eyes. She took a shaky breath, her heart rate gradually slowing as she focused on his calming presence.

As they reached the highest point of the Ferris wheel, Abby couldn’t help but steal a glance at the breathtaking view spread out before them. The carnival lights glittered below like a sea of stars, casting a magical glow over the sky.

In that moment, Abby felt a sense of peace wash over her, her fears melting away in the warmth of Remo’s embrace. She leaned into him, resting her head against his chest as they savored the beauty of the moment together.

As they reached the pinnacle of the Ferris wheel, Remo leaned in close to Abby, his breath warm against her ear. "You know, Abby," he whispered teasingly, "I heard that kissing at the top of a Ferris wheel brings good luck."

Abby’s cheeks flushed pink at Remo’s playful suggestion, her heart fluttering in her chest. She turned to meet his gaze, her eyes sparkling with affection. "Is that so?" she replied, a mischievous glint dancing in her eyes.

Remo grinned, his eyes alight with mischief as he leaned in to capture Abby’s lips in a tender kiss. As they kissed amidst the twinkling lights of the carnival below, Abby couldn’t help but feel a sense of magic in the air, as if the entire world had faded away, leaving only the two of them suspended in time.
