Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Handmade (3)

Mia Ginger began to call out to someone.

"There was a car accident on Ring City Road, and a lot of patients were brought in right before the end of the shift," Koa Jackson explained, dropping his gaze to look at her, pausing slightly before saying, "Sorry, I couldn’t be there for your birthday."

"It’s fine, work is important." Mia Ginger glanced at him with a smile, her expression devoid of any annoyance or blame.

The moonlight was beautiful.

Her face was delicate and white, appearing even more radiant than the moonlight.

Koa Jackson suddenly thought of the photo Caiden Ward had sent him, his attention momentarily wandering.

After a while, he looked at her and gave a faint smile, saying, "Happy birthday."

As he spoke—

He handed a small, perfectly square dark brown box in front of her.

"Thank you," Mia Ginger froze for a moment, looked up at him and asked softly, "Is it for me?"

Koa Jackson’s lips curled slightly as he glanced at her.

Mia Ginger realized she had asked a foolish question and quickly reached out to take it.

Holding it in her hands, it felt a little warm.

"Aren’t you going to open it and see?"

"Oh." Mia Ginger responded, and carefully opened the box with her head lowered.

Inside was a jade pendant, emerald green, clear under the moonlight and streetlights, exquisitely small and round, with fine transparency, the green seeming to drip from the pendant, gleaming with a crystalline light.

The pendant was paired with a black handmade braided thin string, at the bottom of the string, not far from the pendant, on both sides, were fastened small light-colored beads, equally delicate and refined.

Mia Ginger’s gaze finally fell on the pendant, hesitating slightly as she asked, "Is it... a pea pod?"

The pendant’s green, dripping shape was quite adorable, like a shelled pod, with the slightly curved, flat outer shell holding three plump and round beans, the whole piece so translucent it looked flawless, smaller than two circles of her pinky finger.

"Yes, it’s a pod." Koa Jackson nodded, picked up the pendant with his fingers and bent down slightly, smiling softly as he helped her wear it around her neck, reminding her, "I made it myself, don’t pawn it off again."

"Ah!

She was suddenly stunned.

Koa Jackson also froze for a moment.

The air around them seemed to suddenly stop flowing.

After a while, Koa Jackson continued helping her with the pendant, standing up straight.

Mia Ginger quickly lowered her head.

Her face was burning hot, she felt as if her entire being was about to catch fire.

"It’s late, let’s go back." Koa Jackson’s deep and elegant voice suddenly came, releasing her.

Mia Ginger said "Oh" in response, stammering, "Good... Brother Jackson, good night."

"Good night." Koa Jackson nodded.

——

Mia Ginger made her way back to her room.

In fact, her mind was blank, she completely forgot how she managed to walk back to her room.

She just felt her cheeks still burning.

Her expression wooden, she sat in front of the dressing table.

Looking at the face in the mirror, indeed, it was incredibly red, seemingly able to drip blood.

Mia Ginger reached out to touch her face, unconsciously, her slender white fingers grasped the jade pendant around her neck, the cool and hard texture gradually calming her heart.

"I made it myself."

Koa Jackson’s words echoed in her ear again.
