Chapter 109: Chapter 109 Today Belongs to Me (1)
The hall was filling up with guests, a sea of elegance and charm, mingling glasses amidst laughter.
Zuri glanced around and saw Mia Ginger sitting in a corner of the living room sofa with a small piece of cake, looking rather bored.
The banquet hadn’t officially started, but the music was already flowing, and couples began to dance with ease and grace, wrapped in the moment’s embrace.
Thinking of the embarrassing moment earlier, Zuri couldn’t help clenching her fists and headed towards a young man who had just stepped in.
Edward Davis was the only son of the chairman of Jack Davis Electronics, twenty-five years old, always intent on befriending Zuri. Their relationship was quite good, and he had just entered the hall in a white suit, sharp-eyed enough to spot Zuri waving at him.
Edward approached with a smile, glanced down at her, and complimented, "This dress color is really beautiful, suits you well."
"Didn’t bring a date?" Zuri teased with a blink and a grin.
"I thought you were my date," Edward whispered in her ear, his tone intimately close.
Zuri’s cheeks flushed slightly as she gave him a playful glare, speaking gloomily, "I can’t dance much today."
"Why not?"
"I’ve been teaching my sister to dance recently, and she stepped on my foot so much it’s swollen!"
"Your sister?" Edward raised an eyebrow, "That biological daughter of your dad?"
The tone carried a hint of curious probing.
He was naturally flirtatious, which left his parents helpless, merely hoping he would marry a wealthy young lady quickly to solidify the family’s standing.
Zuri was well known, and the Davis family naturally paid close attention to her. Plus, Zuri had fairly good looks, especially with her elegant demeanor and confident speech — the type to boost a man’s reputation when brought along. Edward had always maintained a good relationship with her with intentions.
He didn’t want to be bound by marriage too soon, yet occasionally showed ambiguous interest.
Ever since Zuri’s birthday party two years ago, they have kept this seemingly close relationship, closer than friends, but not quite lovers.
Originally, Edward was planning to propose to Zuri under his parents’ pressure.
Even—
He wasn’t the only new business elite thinking the same.
But who would have thought—
The biological daughter, who had been lost outside, suddenly returned home.
The real heiress returned to the Ginger Family, and the adopted daughter naturally lost her standing. Before Edward came, his parents had repeatedly advised him to consider pursuing her for it might be more practical than going after Zuri.
Edward scoffed at the idea.
Mia had been back for a month, yet the rumor in the circle was that she was the truck village bumpkin.
How could she possibly compare to Zuri?
Nevertheless, he had to routinely meet her first before making a judgment.
"Who else could it be!" Zuri pulled him back from his thoughts with one line.
"Heard about her for quite a while but never saw her," Edward squinted with a cheeky smile, "Where’s your sister? Let this gentleman have a look, see if she’s prettier than you?"
He joked but Zuri appeared somewhat uneasy.
She pursed her lips and pointed with a pucker towards where Mia was, "Over there, in the white dress, short hair."
Edward followed the direction of her gaze.
Stunned.
Mia was sitting with her head down, so he couldn’t catch her face right away. Edward’s gaze fell on her fair and rounded shoulders.
The girl looked pretty slim but not overly thin, with some flesh around her shoulders, which appeared extremely pale in the lighting, smooth as milk, tempting anyone to take a bite and savor it.
Edward’s Adam’s apple moved involuntarily.
