Chapter 312: Chapter 312: Fellow Taoist, Please Stay [Fourth Update]

"Wang Xue? What a nice name; it seems like it must have been snowing when you were born."

Qin Jun said with a smile, even deliberately flicking his hair near his ear to reveal more of his handsome face.

A twitch formed at the corner of Wang Xue’s mouth; although the young noble before her was as handsome as a painting, why did his smile and his words feel so... punchable?

"Thank you all for rescuing me. As for anything else, I won’t trouble you further," Wang Xue said with a bow. Considering the Cat People were harmed by cultivators of the Human Clan, how could she possibly trust Qin Jun and his companions easily?

Nine hurried over, pulling on her hand and shaking it, but ended up cowering under her glare.

Qin Jun found this amusing and said with a laugh, "I am willing to save not just you, but the entire Cat People Clan."

As soon as he said this, all the Cat People were astounded, and the younger ones looked at Qin Jun with curiosity.

Far from being thrilled, Wang Xue was even more guarded; manna doesn’t fall from heaven. Qin Jun’s willingness to help the Cat People Clan clearly had ulterior motives, and they targeted the entire clan, at that.

As she hesitated on how to drive away Qin Jun and his three companions, Old Man Yi, while wiping sweat and cursing under his breath, said, "You’re on the brink of annihilation, and you’re still hesitating? We managed to break through your formation, so we could easily kill you. If we harbored ill will, why would we bother talking with you?"

Qin Jun rolled his eyes. Couldn’t he be a bit more amiable?

Lei Zhenzi and Yuan Hong, on the other hand, quite agreed with Old Man Yi’s approach. After all, they couldn’t hear any system notification tone, didn’t trigger any side quest, and thus didn’t see the Cat People Clan as much of an issue.

Wang Xue’s expression turned unpleasant, and her lips pursed, clearly angered, but upon reflection, she realized that Old Man Yi had a point indeed.

"Let’s rest here for the night, and let Miss Wang consider it through the evening. If you still refuse, we will certainly not force you," Qin Jun said with a wave of his hand and a smile. Although the side quest required him to win over the Cat People Clan, it wasn’t compulsory. Naturally, if Wang Xue was unwilling, Qin Jun wouldn’t embarrass himself.

Of course, it wasn’t because of Wang Xue’s beauty that he yielded.

He firmly believed himself to be a gentleman, unwavered by physical attraction!

Without nodding or rejecting Qin Jun’s proposal, Wang Xue watched as he approached the younger Cat People on his own.

"What are you doing!" An adult Cat Person hastily said with a stern voice, aware that these adult Cat People had all reached the Transforming Void Realm, but there were even more Transforming Void cultivators outside the valley.

Startled, Wang Xue quickly turned around, just as Qin Jun suddenly took out some food from his storage ring – roasted chicken and duck wrapped in yellow paper. The aroma of meat instantly wafted in the air, causing the eyes of the young Cat People to light up as they gathered around him.

"Don’t rush, there’s enough for everyone."

Qin Jun smiled as he distributed the food to them. Since he had decided to win over the Cat People Clan, these young ones would be his future subjects—he naturally couldn’t bear to see them go hungry.

This scene softened the gaze of the adult Cat People, and Wang Xue watched Qin Jun in a daze. Only now did she realize that Qin Jun was different from all the Human Clan cultivators she had met before. On closer inspection, she even inexplicably felt a sense of kinship, as if it originated from the depths of her bloodline.

Old Man Yi shook his head and chuckled, "When the Demonic Dao arrives in full force, all tribes will submit. Perhaps a golden age is about to dawn."

Yuan Hong and Lei Zhenzi looked at each other and pondered this sentence. Times had changed, and they dared not take Old Man Yi’s words lightly anymore, sensing something significant in them.

"What exactly is this old fellow’s identity?"

Qin Jun cast a glance at Old Man Yi’s retreating figure, thinking that Old Man Yi’s identity mustn’t be simple. Any of his hundreds of disciples could have cultivated into a major Demonic Dao figure of their era, and he knew many ancient secrets. But since Old Man Yi didn’t reveal his identity, all Qin Jun could do was itch with curiosity.

...

The moon set, and the sun rose.

Five cultivators of the Earth Immortal Realm were speeding through the sky on a flying boat, with the Langya Mountain Range below them.

"How much further?"

A middle-aged man with a goatee asked as he opened his eyes. They were all dressed in the same gray robes, clearly from the same power.

"It’s close, no more than fifty miles," another cultivator replied.

The goatee-faced middle-aged man nodded, "Today we must capture those Cat People, for among them is the princess of the Cat People Clan. We must act quickly, or other powers will take note."

The Cat People were no easy target; after all, they were mighty in battle and not less intelligent than the Human Clan. If they could be subjugated, it would surely enhance their power.

All four cultivators nodded. The thought of female Cat People sparked a sinister desire in them.

As the name suggests, the Cat People Clan consists of the offspring of cat demons and humans evolved over countless years into a formidable race. The women of the Cat People are particularly alluring, bewitching the hearts of men.

To say it without exaggeration, female Cat People are the most coveted exotic companions among male cultivators, extremely hard to come by.

"Please hold, dear friends ahead!"

At that moment, a jovial voice called from behind, startling the five men as they quickly turned to look. There approached a yellow-robed Daoist rapidly drawing closer. The figure was amiable with a gentle smile, riding atop a Black-spotted Tiger capable of running through the void – quite an extraordinary sight.

The newcomer was none other than Shen Gongbao, the infamous figure from ’Investiture of the Gods,’ though infamous here should be taken in a negative light.

Compared to other powerful figures in ’Investiture of the Gods,’ Shen Gongbao might not be prominent, but he still played a significant role, a key catalyst that ignited the great war therein.

"Who might you be?"

The goatee-faced middle-aged man asked with a grave tone, while the others watched Shen Gongbao warily, ready to act if necessary.

Stepping off the Black-spotted Tiger onto the flying boat, Shen Gongbao bowed with a smile, "My name is Shen Gongbao, merely a roaming Daoist with time to spare."

The five exchanged glances; Shen Gongbao appeared friendly, which made them lower their guard slightly.

In ’Investiture of the Gods,’ with the ability to befriend a wide range of extraordinary figures, Shen Gongbao must have had an appealing exterior. Without charming looks, how could he possibly be so well-connected? A good first impression can truly go a long way.

"What can we do for you?" the goatee-faced cultivator asked solemnly.

Shen Gongbao spoke with a smile, "It’s not easy to encounter fellow cultivators in such desolate places; I was hoping for a ride and to make acquaintances, perhaps be friends. I have few hobbies, one is wandering through mountains and waters, and the other, making friends."

The five men couldn’t help but look at each other. Shen Gongbao’s tone was neither flattering nor humble, sounding quite sincere. But they were not naive children to make connections at such a critical juncture.

"Scram, we’re busy!" one of the cultivators waved his hand in irritation. They were all of Earth Immortal Realm and thus had no fear of Shen Gongbao.

"Oh? Could it be because of the Cat People Clan?" Shen Gongbao asked with a raised eyebrow and a look that suggested he knew all along. The five men’s expressions changed drastically.

The goatee-faced cultivator asked in a deep voice, "What do you mean by that, and how do you know of it?"

The other four cultivators drew their weapons and surrounded Shen Gongbao. If they knew he was a True Immortal Realm powerhouse, they would have been petrified.
