Chapter 311: Chapter 311: Cornered Beast [Third Update]
Bang——Gurgling——
Bai Zhi’s head fell to the ground and rolled around like a ball before coming to a stop. This scene bewildered the surrounding cultivators and commoners who watched. After a brief silence, the street suddenly erupted into a commotion like a boiling pot.
"Oh my God! The Bai Family’s young master has been killed!"
"This is definitely going to blow up into something big!"
"Who is that youth up there?"
"Served him right; that kid was too overbearing on a daily basis. I’ve always disliked him!"
Listening to the discussions below, Qin Jun was indifferent.
At this moment, the cat person leapt back to his side and affectionately rubbed against his thigh, reminiscent of the family cat from his previous life.
"What’s your name?"
Qin Jun brushed aside the messy hair on its face and asked, noticing the creature looked quite delicate—if not for the paws, cat ears, and tail, it was almost indistinguishable from a normal person.
The little cat person meowed softly, and right on cue, Old Man Yi translated, "It’s called Nine."
Qin Jun turned to look at him and asked, "How can you understand it?"
"Psh, even though the Cat People Clan was in decline during the epoch I was born in, they were still a force that couldn’t be ignored," Old Man Yi said with a snort.
"By the way, just how many years have you lived?" Qin Jun blinked and asked, knowing that the old fellow before him had lived a life longer than the history of Huaxia itself.
Old Man Yi put down the chicken bones in his hand and smacked his lips, "I’m not sure how long I was locked up, but according to that brat Nangong Lietian, I was imprisoned for 10,000 years. By that account, I’m at least 15,000 years old now."
Even with mental preparation, Qin Jun’s mouth twitched involuntarily.
Yuan Hong and Lei Zhenzi didn’t quite know what to say either.
Meanwhile, there were no longer any other guests on the second floor of the inn. Nine had killed Bai Zhi, which was a big deal. No one wanted to get involved in such murky waters.
The innkeeper and the waiters didn’t dare to go upstairs either, fearing they might be killed by mistake.
"It seems we need to leave," grinned Qin Jun, shrugging his shoulders. He then turned to Nine and asked, "Where is your sister?"
Upon hearing this, Nine quickly jumped onto the windowsill and then kept shaking its head, gesturing for Qin Jun and the others to follow it.
Qin Jun and the two others exchanged glances, then stood up and followed it. Old Man Yi wiped the grease off his face and stood up as well.
They moved swiftly, leaping across rooftops and quickly vanishing into the night.
By the time the Bai Family’s people arrived, it was unfortunately too late.
"Who killed my son!" the patriarch of the Bai Family roared in anger, but no one on the street responded to him; most people didn’t want to get involved.
Bai Zhi was notoriously dissipated. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have brought out the cat person to show off, considering an untamed Ascending Mortal Realm demon beast was extremely dangerous.
...
Elsewhere, Qin Jun and the others followed Nine over the city wall. Even though they were spotted by the city guards, they couldn’t be stopped.
"I thought I’d be able to rest for a night, and now I’m on the move again."
Qin Jun sat on a cloud formed by Lei Zhenzi and lamented; he was at ease since Nine was leading the way in front.
The night was like water, and the occasional roars of demon beasts from the mountains and forests added a terrifying hue to the night.
"The Cat People Clan is quite strong; a night of hard work is worthwhile," Old Man Yi said with a smile that looked sleazy no matter how you viewed it, as he picked at his teeth with a wooden stick.
Hearing Old Man Yi praise the Cat People Clan, Qin Jun began to feel expectant.
Nine moved swiftly, her speed in the forest so fast it resembled a shadow, making it difficult for anyone to capture, thankfully, Qin Jun and his companions could rely on their Divine Consciousness to track her, and without realizing it, they had already entered the Langya Mountain Range.
The Langya Mountain Range stretched for thousands of miles, a vast land rich in resources, home to many powerful species, and even contained fearsome demon beasts of the sixth and seventh rank.
A sixth-rank demon beast was the equivalent of a cultivator in the Earth Immortal Realm, and the seventh rank corresponded to the Immortal Realm. There were legends of eighth-rank demon beasts emerging from the Langya Mountain Range, but of course, that was just a legend.
With the sparse moonlight and stars, as they ventured deeper into the Langya Mountain Range, Qin Jun could feel more powerful auras, and the air was thick with the smell of blood. The nights in the mountain forests were a time for the demon beasts’ revelry and the cultivators’ trembling.
An hour passed swiftly, and the night deepened.
Led by Nine, Qin Jun and the three others came to a valley shrouded in night. The valley was surrounded by four tall mountains, and a green light shield atop sealed the valley.
There was a small river in front of the valley where a fire was burning. On closer inspection, one could see that over a thousand cultivators were either meditating or whispering among themselves. Not just at the mouth of the valley, the tops and edges of the four surrounding peaks also had cultivators on guard, making it seem impossible to find an escape.
It seemed that Nine, emboldened by Qin Jun’s protection, dashed carelessly into the cultivators’ line of sight, heading straight for the mouth of the valley.
"There’s a situation!"
The cultivators immediately sprang up, each drawing their magical weapons, ready to strike when they saw it was a member of the Cat People.
Boom—
A mystical thunder lit up the night sky, accompanied by a deafening sound that struck down, causing the cultivators to hastily retreat. Simultaneously, Nine managed to rush into the entrance of the valley.
Lei Zhenzi’s Riding Clouds technique was incredibly fast, quickly bringing Qin Jun and the other three into the valley, eluding the cultivators from catching a clear glimpse of their true faces.
"What just went in there?"
"I’m not sure, that bolt of lightning almost blinded me."
"Could that Cat Person have come to send a message?"
"Psh, what’s there to fear? The Cat People Clan is trapped; they can’t turn the tides. We can’t let the dozens of Cat People inside the valley slip away!"
The cultivators chattered amongst themselves, then returned to their original places to rest. They couldn’t breach the valley’s magical formations, so they had to wait outside.
Inside the valley, dozens of Cat People were resting and healing, most of them young. Among them, a silver-haired Cat People woman was particularly eye-catching; her silver hair cascaded down her shoulders, and she wore clothing made of animal skins that perfectly outlined her figure. Her pale arms and calves, along with her swaying tail and twitching cat ears atop her head, made it impossible for most men to look away, even from behind.
Not long after Nine rushed in, the silver-haired Cat People woman turned around with a look of panic on her delicate, exquisite face; she was not overjoyed by Nine’s arrival.
"Bad news! Someone has breached the formation!"
She cried out in alarm, prompting the other adult Cat People to pick up their weapons quickly.
The valley’s formation allowed the Cat People to enter and exit freely, but not the cultivators. Nine hadn’t considered this, so Lei Zhenzi forced his way in.
Qin Jun and his companions landed quickly, causing the Cat People immense tension. His gaze was instantly drawn to the silver-haired Cat People woman, and his eyes couldn’t help but widen.
So cute, so beautiful...
Qin Jun stared dumbfounded at the silver-haired Cat People woman. Meanwhile, Nine approached her, meowing, presumably explaining the origins of Qin Jun and his companions.
Soon, the Cat People relaxed, and the silver-haired Cat People woman approached Qin Jun and the others.
"Hello, my name is Wang Xue, the daughter of the Chief of the Cat People Clan. Thank you for saving my brother," the silver-haired Cat People woman introduced herself. Her beauty caused Lei Zhenzi and Yuan Hong to gaze at her in a daze, while Qin Jun noticed that a trace of wariness remained in her eyes.
