Chapter 97: Burning Bright
Chapter 97: Burning Bright
Bloody fucking dammit, why can’t this bastard just die easily!?
(“ Weren’t you the one wishing to brutalise his body, ”)
Oh, I do. But I am happy to just have him dead.
I kept my murderous rage down, this fight just became a lot trickier after all. It was now a two verses one not in my favour, and my knowledge of Thomas’ abilities was lacking. I knew he was fast, could hit decently hard, and worst of all, was stupidly good at dodging.
Thanks to whatever robot/artefact/person/whatever his companion was, his armour was now fixed. Likely weaker in those areas than it was before, but it was still a factor I had to consider.
Fuck it, I’ll continue with my being annoying approach.
“Well, are you done fiddling with your girlfriend yet?”
“And they say I can’t shut up.”
“Well, I am trying to copy you.”
He walked forward down the tower. “I think I am starting to understand when people say, ‘I need a spike up my throat’.”
The robot thing spoke in a monotone voice. “Seriously Sir?”
He raised his rifle and began to fire.
“Not going to reply to your girlfriend?” I formed a Starlight barrier in front of me to block the bullets.
Shatter
It didn’t do much.
I dove back and fell down the tower. Dozens of Starlight chains with anchor spikes formed from my back as I swung myself around.
“I’m learning a lot today!” He yelled from afar as the bullets pelted towards me. “I see why people complain about not having flight skills, it sucks for you.”
Fighting on the side of the tower was certainly not a favourable environment for me. Especially considering that both opponents could stick to it.
I generated a large volley of [Fire Arrows] that I left on standby. The [Hungering Flame] were higher on the tower, and they were slowly climbing down.
“Do you wish for support, Sir?”
“As always, guard my rear, only order.”
“Understood.”
Shit!
A few bullets smashed into my armour and damaged it. I wasn’t unaffected as the blasts still hurt, but the healing factor of [Primal Guardian Lord] was mitigating the damage.
Name: Ceella Stella (Celestira Luxpoir) | Race: [Human?]
Level 305 | Awakened
Mana: 45% Starlight: 68%
My resources were getting low. Starlight was being drained by [Star Mapping], and my mana was lower thanks to all the fights.
I guess it’s time.
I was prepared to use [Unleashed Awakening]. I was hesitant to use it at first, but I couldn’t complain at the moment. I was getting pushed back and running away wasn’t going to work when he was faster than me and very much wanted to kill me.
(“ Cel, go to that axe, fellow, there on his chest, is an item around his neck.”)
I looked down at his body and saw the broken chained pendant, it was a small crystal oval with numerous small crystals within it. He didn’t look like he would get up anytime quickly.
His pendant?
(“ Yes ”)
What is it?
Bullets rained down and my arrows fired whenever I had a decent shot, but he shot them out of the sky without issue.
(“ Well–”)
Espr began to explain the item as if she were reading the effects in the presentation.
Name: Adding A Byte For A Limited Time
Main Function 1: Increases mana regeneration by 8x.
Main Function 2: Stored around 5,000,000 MU.
Warning 1: Loses 1000 stored mana a minute once activated for the first time. Mana can not be added to it without risking damage to the device.
Warning 2: Can cause internal bleeding.
Fuck. For all the stars in the sky, why of all–!
(“ Useful? ”)
Of course!
(“ You want it? ”)
Yep… I’m going to steal that.
The fact he even had an item spoke volumes of who he was. More importantly, it was something I could use.
Do you know how much mana is left in it?
(“ Over half at least ”)
Hahahaha. Perfect! Thank you, weird defence system, for throwing people in my way, you gave something useful.
My reservations from early on had disappeared. Needing more mana to break the bastard's armour? No problem! I had to stop myself from laughing. I would’ve preferred the original one shown. It still doubled mana and regeneration and actually lasted it, but this alternate version in some ways was better for my predicament.
Now the issue was getting to him and stealing the item without issue.
“Your aim hasn’t been that good.” I flung myself up and used a [Burst] to close in the gap.
He didn’t reply.
I poured fire energy into my armour, increasing in strength as it glowed red. It wasn’t as durable as it was back on Earth after the damage from the fight there, but it was going to be good enough. “Going serious mode? Or just wanting to look cool for your robot girlfriend?”
I wielded the Starlight-encased arrow spear and went for a blow to the neck. I launched half my remaining volley of [Fire Arrows] in the process.
Clang!
Our weapons clashed as he parried my blow. I saw him try to stab me with the second arrow, so I exploded in a wave of fire and swerved around with a double [Burst].
“What? Not dodging this time? Or is the boo-boo too bad!” I tried jabbing the spear into his stomach, but his body flashed a white light, and he had shifted into the perfect position to grab the spear. The [Fire Arrows] that flew around were shot down by the robot.
He said. “You should return that.”
“Finders keepers?” The Starlight chains I used to move swung around and went to stab the bastards. He didn’t care for it and went to stab me.
[Solar Overload].
The arrow slid by my armour as I let go of my spear while attaching it to a chain.
Then he jumped back in pain as the arrow he was gripping erupted in a blinding orange light and his armour melted for a moment.
The arrow came to me as I pulled by the chain undamaged by me pouring a stupid amount of Sun energy into it.
One of my three [Solar Orbs] flew into my hand.
[Scorch Extinction].
Its warm light shifted into an unstable, ominous orange glow.
Then I gave it a light chuck upwards.
“I hope your girlfriend can survive this one!”
BOOOM!
If the previous one was a sight to see, this new one was a spectacle. Amplified by one of my original two [Solar Orbs]. The devouring flames joined in with the [Hungering Flame] and increased the spread.
The cruel fire flowed in all directions, leaving no room for the escape of both parties.
I [Burst] down the tower for my pick-up, but I too was caught by the lighter waves of the flames.
Argh!
I wasn’t fireproof. Even if my resistance, fire-charged armour, and enhanced durability helped lessen the damage.
It was now time to reach the bottom. The fire continued to spread and landed violently on the ground.
Now next to the body of Jordan. He appeared fine enough, alive at least.
“I’m taking this.” I ripped the pendant off and chucked his body towards the entrance of the tower away from the fight on the side of it.
I pulled back a segment of my armour and threw it in there.
Oh, I see what they mean about internal bleeding, this shit is just pouring so much mana into my system hahaha! Guess I did the idiot a favour.
I immediately turned around and went back up the tower.
The flames of the supercharged [Scorch Extinction] faded away, but it did allow the [Hungering Flame] to spread far up and down the tower’s side.
A blue shield surrounded both Thomas and the robot, as the robot had her hands manifesting the shield as her body appeared partly melted. Thomas didn’t appear that bad, only slightly singed.
“Sir!” The robot yelled. “We have been asked to move out!”
Now Thomas decided to speak. “What?! I still haven’t killed this bastard yet.”
“No debate, our partners have decided to clear the floors before the transport tunnels reopen.”
“Fuckin shit.”
I had to butt in.
“What you can’t be leaving already? I guess you didn’t want to kill me that badly.” With all this extra mana, I could do some fun things.
[Flame Lord Armour].
Flames covered me in a suit of armour, and then their brightness increased and increased.
[Flame Lord Armour] was honestly worse than pouring energy into armour, however, with the amount of limited-time mana I had access to, I could use the skill far past its full potential.
The flames appeared nearly solid and dripped like magma.
I was certainly very hot, but I didn't care, it was too much fun, and my chance to kill the bastard could be getting away, so I was signing to kill him.
My body burned bright
A large warship broke out of the nearby moon.
“What bullshit is that?” I couldn’t help but comment.
“Wow, they are really going all out.” Thomas let out a dry laugh. “I see why they were chosen.”
Fuck, everything is getting out of hand.
The situation was never close to being under control, and my solo endeavour to infiltrate the station left me with no information and no way to acquire more. Everything that has happened was a surprise, and every new one besides one was worse and worse news for me.
“Sigh…”
My excitement dropped to nothing, and I was just getting tired, besides one emotion of wanting to melt Thomas's bones while he was still alive.
I need to visit my family after this…
In the middle of everything getting worse, the random thought came back to my head. I wanted to see those three idiots again.
