Chapter 92: Twirling Tower

Chapter 92: Twirling Tower

I jumped past the rubble and narrowly avoided the ships that hurdled through the streets like missiles.

[Star Mapping] was left on to make sure I was never caught by surprise by a stray attack or made to become a number in the collateral damage report.

My goal of going towards the tower was a little more challenging than expected. The fights had no regard for collateral damage, which was fair at this point, but it did make it quite difficult to move from one place to another. The ships that were fighting close to the segment’s surface added to the task’s difficulty, as not only were the flybys dangerous but also the missed shots and crashing ships.

Where the fuck did all these extra ships come from?!

I understood that not everyone would fly out immediately, but there were so many more than were originally there. It would make sense that the number increase was mostly on the defensive side, as it would take a while for some people to get ready, but even the attackers had a fair number of individuals join them. I understood how they could hide a few ships, but there were so many more than I expected.

A building collapsed beside me, and I chose to jump around the falling, tall metal building. I saw a few corpses inside the cracks as I moved by them.

I summoned seven [Fire Arrows] behind me and two [Solar Orbs] behind me to prepare for anything that could happen. I was partly inclined to create a few more [Solar Orbs], but I was still going to try to prioritise using the arrow and my starlight, so any more would be a waste.

Looking at all the damage and continued chaos, being inside the tower at the moment might be the safest place at the moment, even though it was the main focus of the attack.

Looks like I have to go through the front door.

With a quick use of [Star Mapping], I scanned the area around the tower, trying to find the easiest way in, and the entrance that seemed to be available was the main one. There were eight main entrances/exits around the tower, but one of them was ever so slightly bigger than the others. The other seven had been completely locked down. Even excluding the fact that doors and walls were closed, there was also the other problem of the barrier around the tower.

It allowed people to leave at the bottom, but I wasn’t sure I could enter as well. It was something I could test when I got there.

I wonder how many people from Dominous Hood I have actually encountered today.

The two people on the second segment dock, the one riding the spaceship, and the buff dude on the first segment were definitely actually idiots working in Dominous Hood. The rest were debatable, though the people I fought with when I got the marble were likely candidates.

My raid on Juptar taught me the differences in quality within Dominous Hood themselves, but in situations like this, actually figuring someone was from Dominous Hood was a difficult thing. Their trademark non-marked armour and cloak were pretty standard equipment for any illicit activity. It didn’t matter too much for my hunt, because either way, I was going to kill them all who were attacking the station. But it was something I started to think about–how much of their force did they bring today?

They loved their artefacts, but was what that desire worth in human resources.

As I approached the tower, there was a guard formation outside the barrier, fending off pirates and other attackers.

Blasts of mana and different energies rang back and forth from the two sides. Some of the pirates tried flying over the barricade, but someone was always ready to confront them with a skill, or well-timed shot.

(“ How do you plan on getting past? ”)

Just the old classic.

There was no reason to overcomplicate this; my plan was a little risky for the guards but I just needed to make sure to be careful.

With a running start and a [Burst], I flew into the air.

“Don’t mind me.” I casually announced as I dove over the guards, moments after I fired a wave of soul pressure at both sides, with a stronger wave smashing into the pirates.

Two arrows flung off my set and went around the back, stabbing two of the attackers in the back who were in close combat with the guards, and the moment I crossed the invisible line of their boundary, I fired a weak soul pressure poke at the guards to bolt them into action.

One of them yelled, “What are you doing?!”

“Going after the people who have made it inside; hopefully, will be back quickly.” My words weren’t lies; in an effort to see if the guards had any lie detection skills, then they could at least semi-trust me in this tense situation. Either way, they weren’t catching up to me, so they made their own decision to keep defending the line.

As I approached the barrier, a familiar pulse rapidly shot through me. Then I passed through the barrier without issue.

That again…

Nothing seemed to happen this time, but my senses were still on high alert.

Finally, I made it into the first segment tower. A massive structure that could be a colony ship all on its own. Each floor was massive and it took a while to reach each end by walking. It had multiple large elevators all throughout it, but it also had a massive spiralling ramp on the outer edge of the tower.

(“ So, do you plan to run? ”)

Ummm… I did not think about that, actually.

I looked to the roof of the first floor, which was a multi-layered commercial centre, and also to the first warehouse of the tower. It was going to be a little annoying to find the right place.
