Chapter 84: Vermin Found

“Roger, can you help me catch onto that ship?” I pointed at the vessel the armoured individual who was riding it like a hoverboard was on.

It felt sick.

Looking at it was making me sick.

I wanted to squash, crush, maim, destroy who it was that had the gall to swing that weapon around.

That moment the arrow was stabbed into my chest roared in my mind and body. That Thomas bastard, who enjoyed every moment of it, I wanted to tear him limb from him. I didn’t know if he was the bastard surfing, but oh the stars did I wish he was.

The constant pain I was feeling spiked with my vivid recollection. The achs in my soul never stopped, only fluctuated. No matter how long I waited, it never stopped.

Roger looked over at the ship that was flying dangerously fast. “I don’t think I can’t get over it too.”

I replied, “I don’t need you to, I just need you to help me get close.”

“...So, then what is it that you need me to do?”

I told Roger my plan, it was far from anything spectacular but it was still something.

The ship was moving far faster than the rest, it was for sure specially designed for the crazed user.

Not many attacks flew in its direction, but the ones that did the pilot skilfully dodged. Most ships on the allied side did not know whether the ship was friend or foe. The appearance, the pattern, and the user controlling it like a crazed lunatic gave a lot of people the feeling it was just a weird hunter. The fact it wasn’t shooting at anyone was helping with the charade.

But I knew otherwise.

It wasn’t just the makeshift spear. I understood that while unlikely, someone could have grabbed one of the arrows at some point–whether it was a leftover from a Dominous Hood attack, obtained from a different source, or grabbed it before Dominous Hood took them.

The ship looked like a flat paper aeroplane, with a large sharp tip, it was constantly flying up and down between the layers of the first and second segments. It was occasionally firing through some flat energy blasters, but those shots never seemed to hit anything.

What the ship was doing though was scraping against the first segment barrier in the same spot. Simply attacking the one spot on a station barrier wasn’t going to do much, but I wasn’t going to be surprised if the bladed tip of the ship that was hitting the barrier was some sort of weapon designed to break it.

We began my, all things considered, terrible plan.

Roger flew in a closer position to make things possible.

Mana shot flew by us like rain, but Roger managed to keep us out of harm's way.

He fired back, and I provided covering fire when needed. My recently obtained solar rifle was already starting to run low on energy, a lot of power was needed per shot to make a dent in any ship's armour.

A small unmanned ramming ship locked onto him and flew to stab us from behind, however I didn't have to say anything. Because Roger had cameras on his mech’s head.

Roger spun around and kicked the oversized drone, knocking it back, before shooting with his rifle.

He celebrated, “Hahaha! I’ve been wanting to do that for a while!”

“...Ha.” I let out a small chuckle. “Yeah, good job.”

Trouble began to avoid us, mostly the drone ships. They tended to avoid targets that they repeatedly failed to attack against if they were connected to a network.

Everything was going fine, and we neared the flight path of my target.

Then Roger started to accelerate and the left arm of the mech began to rotate at high speed. The shoulder plates had moved up to allow the movement and I was now behind the head of the mech.

I watched as my target turned away after stabbing the surface of the shield again.

“Good luck!”

“You will need it more than me!” I grabbed that arm that was flying by and spun around with it before letting go.

(“ At times like this, it makes it really clear that you are no longer sane ”)

Once I let go of the arm I was sent flying upwards, and as planned perfectly in line

The moment wasn’t enough though to make it in, so fire [Burst] from my feet to make it.

The ship swooped down before going up to make another pass. Two starlight blades formed around my arms and starlight chains attached to them wrapped around me, as I moments later plunged both blades into the back of the ship to hold on.

The ship was flying directly into the first segment’s barrier again, but the pilot quickly turned around feeling a shake on the ship.

Through my voice-filtered helmet, I said, “What a nice spear you have there. Would you mind telling me where you got it from?”

He didn’t reply and instead placed the spear in a standing spot ready to hold it, and a shield and sword appeared out of his storage.

I sighed.

It wasn’t him. No way that bastard from my memories would keep quiet.

I rushed towards the pilot, but he didn’t move towards me. He was able to turn around, but it appeared he was locked at that point on the ship.

He deflected my starlight blade strikes with his shield. He didn’t strike back immediately and instead tried to push me back with a skill.

I easily dodged and used the opportunity to attempt to grab the spear, but a forcefield around it appeared pushing my hand back.

(“ You wouldn’t have had this issue if you weren’t holding back ”)

I ignored Espr, I knew I didn’t need to waste any more resources to kill this person.

I spun around and tried to kick the pilot. However, a barrier appeared around his back. The starlight knife that extended from my boot retracted.

The force of the attack caused him to panic, and the ship accelerated faster towards the barrier.

I focused all my summoned starlight on my two blades. With a swift motion, I knocked away his shield and stabbed his arm, breaking through the hastily made barrier with my blades.

“Not confident you can beat me?” I couldn’t see his expression, but I could feel the fear emitting from his soul. In that instant, I asked that, and I went in for the killing blow.

Before I could tear apart his armour, he lunged forward while being stuck to the ship and bright blue light expanded from his chest.

An explosion occurred causing the ship to shake and knock everything not tied down flying away. He stayed standing thanks to being locked to the ship but his bones and the weak points in his armour cracked, while I was sent flying down off the ship.

Crap!

The blast didn't do much to me, but my armour didn’t like it. I [Burst] forward and morphed my starlight blade into a hook and grabbed onto the ship before I was flown off.

Before I regained my footing, the man grabbed the spear and with all his energy threw it at the tip of where the ship was crashing into.

Within a moment the ship and the spear smashed into the barrier.

Crack

Bump

The ship came to a forceful halt and was lodged into the barrier, and before I got the chance to stab the bastard in the back. The barrier cracked a whole lot more and began to fall apart.

Dereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

A painful disorienting sound screamed. It was clearly no alarm as no alarm would make those hearing unable to move.

“Bloody hell you bastard.” I walked next to the man who was tired from pouring all his energy into the spear. Numerous ships began to fly up towards the first segment.

I tore off his helmet with claws of starlight before stabbing his head.

I had more work to do, but it was going to happen either way.
