The Soul System in the Apocalypse -
Chapter 377: Dilemma
Chapter 377: Dilemma
After a moment of contemplation, Henry finally made a decision.
In the skills that he possessed, those that he wanted to upgrade included power surge, duplication, fusion, subordinate function, false regeneration, injury immunity, damage distribution, and power pool.
That was a total of eight skills that he possessed. But still, he could only upgrade one of them. Henry contemplated for a moment before finally making a decision.
He decided not to select power surge. The reason behind that was simply because it increased his damage by three times at the expense of half of the energy in his body with a cooldown of 1 hour.
Power pool was a skill with the same function as power surge. So, he could simply use power pool, before activating power surge. That way, he would be able to deal a lot more damage than usual.
As for duplication, he did not know what could happen after he upgraded the skill. Perhaps the number of clones that he could produce would increase from just a single one of them to more with the same power level as himself, but that also came with a problem, and that was the fact that the pressure that would be put on his soul would definitely increase.
It was true that even If he could not utilize it right now, he could still utilize it in the future. But nevertheless, in the apocalypse, if one did not survive the present, how could they think much about the future? So, it was better for him to be stronger right now, and look for other methods that he could utilize in order to get even stronger in the future.
The same thing applied to Fusion. Fusion was a skill that he had gotten in a dungeon. If it was upgraded, perhaps the number of his summoned creatures that he could fuse together with would increase, but it would also increase the pressure that he was going to experience.
If he ended up over using the skill, he might end up being unconscious for a very long time, or having his consciousness damaged just like Alicia’s.
Just like the duplication skill, it was going to be capable of increasing his strength in the future as long as he could fully utilize the skill, but that was for the future.
Subordinate function. That was a skill that was related to the territory that he owned. Currently, he could only summon a single member of his territory at a time. According to his estimation, perhaps if there was an upgrade, the number could increase by 1 or 4. Perhaps there was a surprise and the number was going to increase above that?
Nevertheless, Henry did not cancel this skill. Instead, he considered it among those few skills that he was going to choose to upgrade.
False regeneration and injury immunity both served the same function in different ways. False regeneration was something that mainly depended on his energy reserves to be able to heal him from the injuries. As for injury immunity, that was something that enabled him to survive an attack, no matter how strong it was.
After contemplating, Henry decided to remain with false regeneration, while putting injury immunity to the side for now. Injury immunity was a skill that he had purchased from the system, so when it came to upgrading it, he could simply go to the system and upgrade it using mutation crystals.
Of course he could also do the same with false regeneration, but he had realized that the price for false regeneration was actually higher as compared to injury immunity. He was not sure about the reason behind that, but that was the matter concerning the system and its evaluation.
Damage distribution and power pool, those two skills could be considered very useful. In fact, they were actually useful. For damage distribution, it was capable of enabling Henry to survive several fierce attacks.
As for power pool, it enabled him to be able to launch a very strong attack. The only downside about it was the fact that his summoned creatures would not possess the same combat capability for 3 consecutive days.
Henry thought for a while before he decided to enter into the system space. Currently, he was capable of staying within the system space for two consecutive hours in exchange for 2 seconds in real life situation.
After entering into the system space, Henry decided to ask the system if he could try to simulate those upgraded versions of the skills that he possessed.
[Responding to the host. The system space can allow the host to simulate his strength when utilizing those upgraded versions of the skills. But the host has to understand that the results might not be as accurate as in real life.]
[For the host to be able to get accurate results, the host has to upgrade the system to another level.]
Henry contemplated for a moment before he finally decided to try anyway. In any case, it was not as if he was going to lose anything by simulating this situation. So, he went ahead and tested the upgraded versions of each skill that he was planning to upgrade. Of course, he was only allowed to select one of them.
For the next 2 hours, within the system space, Henry continued utilizing the skills one after the other, trying to see the difference between each and every one of them.
Henry was not trying to compare the skills with each other, but instead, he was actually trying to compare the advantage that existed between each skill after the upgrade. The one with the best advantage was the one that he had decided that he was going to select.
...
Back in real life, Philip suddenly realized that Henry had stopped. He looked back, and realized that Henry was standing there in a daze.
He frowned for a moment as he asked, "What is it Henry? Do you have anything on your mind?"
Henry who had been in a daze suddenly reacted. He shook his head as he responded, "It is not that urgent. I will deal with it later on."
Henry had already woken up from the two seconds that he had spent within the system space, which when converted, was 2 hours within the system space.
Although Philip did not believe what Henry had said, he simply decided to play along. In any case, they were going to have a talk for a while. They had been apart from each other for a very long time, so it was time for them to be able to know what it was that the other party had experienced.
But of course Philip understood that they did not have much time to chat around with each other. At the end of the day, this territory possessed several enemies. Although he did not know what it was that the zombies would do next, the military could also decide to attack at any moment.
After they got back to the room where they stayed, Henry finally paid attention to the details of this place. He realized that there was a great difference between this main territory building, and the one that he owned.
This main territory building of Trista territory was like an apartment building. Each room was actually like an apartment, possessing two bedrooms and a living room together with a kitchen and a washroom.
It seemed that the outline of the main territory building was kind of random. This was actually the second main territory building of the human race that Henry had gotten into. Even those that were present within Lockwood City, he had not actually gotten into any of them.
After everyone finally settled down, Philip and Christine both looked at Henry as they waited for him to tell them what he had experienced during the past over 10 years.
As for James, although he was looking at Henry, he did not show on his face that he was actually waiting for Henry to tell his experience during the years that he had been away. But of course, that was just what he thought. Anybody who was keen enough with looking at him would be able to tell that this kid was trying to hide the fact that he was anticipating for the story from Henry.
Henry cleared his throat and went ahead and explained his experiences to his parents. That went from the day that he and Adam had been kidnapped before they were taken to the island where they were forced to work.
But of course, to make sure that his parents did not feel bad, Henry tried to make sure that he did not point out how difficult the life on that island was actuality. Instead, he tried to make it as if the life there was just difficult, and not hell.
Then, he went ahead and described how the apocalypse had descended, and how they had gone ahead to deal with the monsters. But when it came to the apocalypse, Henry did not give detailed information of what had really happened.
And as expected, he did not even mention about the existence of the system. He did not mention much about the ability that he had gotten from the system. Instead, he just said that it was an ability that he had gotten during the apocalypse.
Until now, it was usual to be able to find a person that possessed a certain ability that was not even related to their own professions. That was due to the presence of dungeons and other opportunities that arose from time to time.
After giving a summary of everything that had happened to him, Henry looked at his parents. He realized that all of them were looking at him. Christine was already having tears streaming down her cheeks, while Philip on the other hand, although he was trying to put on a strong front, Henry could still see the tears that were blaming in his eyes.
As for James, even without the kid knowing what had happened, the animosity that he possessed towards Henry had suddenly disappeared.
"You really had it difficult. We are sorry for failing you as your parents. We were too busy to be able to give you the attention that you deserved." Christine said as she wiped away the tears that were flowing down her cheeks.
