The Soul System in the Apocalypse
Chapter 344: Death Penalty

Chapter 344: Death Penalty

When they heard what Jeffrey had said, they realized that it was actually true. But still, none of them moved forward to attack as they looked at Alicia who just glanced at them for a moment, before she shifted her attention towards Jeffrey.

When Jeffrey realized that the group behind him was not going to come to his aid, he immediately panicked inside. In the situation that he was in, unless someone helped him, there was no way that he was going to be free.

"You group of bastards! When I was treating you all well, you received everything that I gave you. But right now, when you are required, you are chickening out?" Jeffrey was completely furious at the group.

But what did he expect? He was the strongest person in the entire group. But nevertheless, he had already been subdued by Alicia. So, why would the group behind him risk their lives in order to save him?

Additionally, this was the apocalypse. It was a time that everybody thought for themselves. Since they were going to receive better benefits from Jeffrey, they decided to follow him. But right now, since he had already lost the ability that he possessed before that could provide them with something, they had decided to shift to another side.

In any case, perhaps there was a chance that they could survive if Alicia did not want to kill them. As for the matter of attacking them, since they had seen how easy it was for Alicia to be able to subdue Jeffrey, they had already given up trying to attack her all together.

It might be true that they possessed greater power if they attacked together, but if they could not even handle Jeffrey easily, then how was it possible that they were going to be able to handle Alicia who was even capable of easily dominating Jeffrey?

Alicia did not pay much attention to the group. She had already realized that there was no way that they were going to attack. This was something that she had seen from the expressions on their faces.

Instead, she closed in the distance between her and Jeffrey. And when she was just about a meter away from him, she said in a low voice, "I don’t know how you managed to convince the military, the zombies and the goblins to attack this territory, but still, just know that you are lucky that I am in an urgent situation. Otherwise, I would make sure that you would die the most cruel death there is."

Then without giving Jeffrey a chance of saying anything, she immediately increased the intensity of the lightning element that was flowing through the thread that was currently surrounding Jeffrey’s body.

Jeffrey wanted to say something, but the moment that the lightning element touched his body, he suddenly felt the intense hate that was trying to boil his blood.

His throat dried up, not allowing him to say anything at all. Additionally, his entire skin began turning completely red due to the intensity of the heat that was within his body, caused by the lightning element.

In the same process as Aaron had just undergone, Jeffrey’s body turned completely black step by step. At the same time, the vein that was tightly holding on to Jeffrey’s body dissipated, allowing Jeffrey to collapse onto the ground as Alicia retrieved the lightning thread.

Those that were watching from a distance watched in horror as Jeffrey crumbled into black dust. The only thing that reminded them of the fact that Jeffrey existed was the equipment that was currently on the ground.

After she was done with Jeffrey, she did not even glance at the equipment that had dropped on the ground. But instead, she looked at the group of people that were standing in a distance. This was the group that had supported Jeffrey. Some of them were part of her group, but they had decided to betray her.

Looking at them, Alicia really wanted to kill all of them. But, if she did so, she was going to completely cripple the entire territory, making it have a drop in the combat power level that it possessed.

But still, leaving them alive was no different from having a ticking time bomb. Since they had already betrayed her right now, who could say that they were not going to betray her in the future?

When the group realized that Alicia was looking at them, they began retreating step by step. At the same time, they could feel that the intensity of their heartbeat had increased drastically.

They were already sweating profusely, although they were not doing anything. Their bodies trembled from time to time, as they thought that perhaps Alicia might decide to make them face the same end as Jeffrey.

"All of you already know what you have done. But still, I’m not going to do anything to you, at least not for now." Alicia said as she looked at the group with cold eyes.

The moment that the group heard that, they were relieved. Even if they were not going to be punished for now, at least, they could survive and look for ways that they could decide to leave this place.

But of course, had it been that Alicia wanted to kill them, they would not have continued standing there. They would have scattered, trying to see who was going to be lucky enough to survive.

But since Alicia was only talking about punishing them, and not killing them straight away just like she had done with Jeffrey, then, they did not have to be worried so much.

"Thank you so much, leader." The group immediately showed their gratitude. Of course they were not loyal to Jeffrey. It was only because they were going to benefit greatly from following him, that they decided to be his lackeys.

Otherwise, they would definitely look for another person that they would follow, so that they could get benefits. But right now, since Jeffrey had already died, they could only follow what Alicia was saying, not unless they manage to find another person that they could follow.

Alicia did not say anything else as she continued looking at the group. In real sense, she was not even intending on killing them, at least the majority of them. But there were some of them that she was going to kill immediately after they dealt with the trouble that the territory was facing.

But of course, she was not going to reveal something like that at all. If she did, she was pretty sure that there was no way that this group of people was going to remain within the territory. They were going to run away, and if they did something like that during the time of battle, it was going to be dangerous for the territory.

Moreover, to her, it was better to completely eliminate everybody here, rather than allowing them to leave. This group of people belonged to the higher-ups in the territory. That meant that they possessed a lot of information that if it was given out, the territory was bound to suffer.

"All of you are going to be in charge of dealing with the zombies. You are the ones that are going to be the vanguard, together with all those that are under you. Make sure that you don’t allow the zombies to break through your defense, or if they do, I’m going to make sure that all of you die the most cruel death." Alicia immediately instructed.

There was no way that she was going to leave this group behind, to act as backup. If they did so, and they realized that the territory was having a great disadvantage, they would simply decide to look for ways that they were going to escape, rather than offering assistance in the battlefield.

Additionally, since they were the ones that were involved with the issue of inviting the other races to attack the territory, then they were the ones that were supposed to lead the way in solving it.

When they heard that, although they were dissatisfied, but at least, it was better than deciding to face Alicia right now. Although it was true that they could just decide to run away, depending on luck on who was going to survive, but none of them wanted to be that unlucky person that was going to be targeted first by Alicia.

It was true that they were going to be considered as cannon fodder, but at least, they were going to be able to possess a great chance of survival. As long as they avoided the high level zombies command then, the chances of them surviving was going to increase.

Alicia on the other hand had simply instructed them to fight against the zombies because she understood that the chances of humans negotiating with the zombies was minimal. As for the military, since they were humans as well, there was a great chance that perhaps this group of people could simply decide to jump ship, and join the military.

The military was definitely going to accept them immediately. At the end of the day, the aim of the military was to take over the entire city, taking control over the humans present in the entire city.

So, if there was a person that wanted to join their own territory, why would they refuse? It was just that she was sure that they were going to be given a very low position within the territory, because they were going to be considered as potential traitors.

With that finally out of the way, Alicia left the group entirely. She was not afraid that they were going to run away. After all, where were they going to run to at this time of the night?
