Chapter 291: System Upgrade

"I don’t think I can continue playing with you anymore. If I do, someone is going to try and snatch my kill away." Adam stated as he turned around and looked at the zombie that had already collapsed onto the ground.

The zombie had already been split into two. But nevertheless, it had not died. This was the advantage that the zombies possessed. As long as the brain was not destroyed, the zombie would continue living.

Another advantage that the zombies possessed was the fact that they did not feel pain at all. So, no matter how many injuries that would be inflicted on their bodies, they would not feel anything. They would just continue charging forward with their infinite stamina.

As he said those words, Adam raised the battle axe in his hand and slashed downwards. He was not willing to play with the zombie again, lest Julie came out of nowhere and killed the zombie.

She had already done that, and that was the reason why he had been keeping an eye on her movements. The last time, she had stolen a kill from him. And right now, he was not willing to let her do the same.

The zombie on the other hand was not going to just get itself killed like that. But instead, it was obviously going to resist. So, although it could not use its legs, it could still use its hands.

It was completely furious at the fact that it had been injured to this extent. It might be true that it could not feel the pain, but still, that did not imply that it did not know the consequences of having its body split into two.

Without the legs, it was no longer capable of running and doing other things that the legs could have done. Additionally, its movements were currently hindered, making it difficult for it to move around.

Bang!

Using its remaining hand, it slapped hard onto the ground. The moment that it did so, a crater was created below the hand. And in the next moment, a huge pillar suddenly erupted from the ground, trying to attack Adam.

But Adam had already expected something like this was going to happen when he saw the movements of the zombie. So, he was already prepared for anything.

He just jumped into the air, while launching himself forward. Of course he was not going to abandon the attack that he was attacking the zombie with. He let go of his battle ax, while he made several flips in the air.

The battle axe on the other hand was moving towards the zombie with incredible speed. Of course when Adam let go, he did not just let it go like that. But instead, he increased the strength behind which he was using to push the battle ax forward towards the zombie.

When the zombie realized the danger was coming, it wanted to use the earth element to create a shield and block this attack. But currently, since it had just launched another attack, it was going to be impossible for it to be able to do something like that considering that the distance between Adam and itself was not that big.

The zombie hurriedly raised the hand that was cut by Adam, trying to block the attack that was coming from the battle ax.

Bang! Splat!

As Adam landed heavily on the ground, the battle axe on the other hand simply cut through the hand that the zombie was trying to use to protect itself, before landing on its head.

The moment that it did so, the zombie’s head was split open. As the brain matter got split onto the ground, the zombie finally died. But of course, it died with a lot of grievance. Had it known that Adam was this strong, it would have definitely not come here.

After killing the zombie, Adam approached the place where the head of the zombie had been destroyed, and looked amongst the bloody substance, before he took out a bead.

This bead was none other than the mutation crystal. But, this mutation crystal was quite different from the ones that they had been seeing previously. Instead of the normal deep red color, this time, it was faint red. It was as if the red color was fading.

Until now, Adam had been curious about the use of the mutation crystals. But nevertheless, he had not found any. That was something that he did not understand. Nevertheless, he didn’t care. It was not as if there was nobody in the group that was capable of using it.

So after taking the mutation crystal, he completely ignored Nancy who was looking at him with surprise clear in her eyes, with a shocked expression on her face that was behind the mask.

After arriving where Henry was, Adam handed over the mutation crystal. Henry took it without hesitation.

The moment that he touched the mutation crystal, something happened. A prompt appeared in front of him, and it came from the system, the soul system.

Henry blinked his eyes continuously as the barrage of system prompts appeared in front of him. At the same time, while he was still standing there, not understanding what was happening, the mutation crystal that he was holding in his hand suddenly lit up with a red light.

Then in the next moment, it simply varnished without any traces. This made Adam who had just handed over the mutation crystal to be surprised. This was definitely the first time that he had seen a mutation crystal in Henry’s hand do something like this.

’System, are you kidding me? You are actually giving me a choice, before making a decision for me? Wasn’t I supposed to be the one making a decision on whether the system is going to be upgraded or not?’ Henry asked in his mind, completely confused by the actions of the system.

This was the very first time that the system had done something that he had not wanted. It might be true that he might have decided to upgrade the system, but at least, wasn’t he supposed to know the benefits that would come with the upgrade first?

Henry: "???"

’Seriously? You are saying that the system is offline? Then why is it that you are capable of responding?’ Henry asked speechlessly in his mind. It seemed that this system was trying to play a prank on him or something like that. Was it trying to delay the time that it was going to give a response to him?

In any case, it was not as if the 48 seconds were quite long. So, Henry decided that he was going to wait until the system finished the upgrade. But at the same time, he decided that he was not going to stay around doing nothing.

So, he looked at Olivia and the rest of the group and said, "We should retreat back into the territory. I think after this, we will be leaving this place and going to Hillstown city."

When Olivia heard what Henry had said, she was a little surprised, but that was all. Of course Henry and Adam were going to leave this place. This was not their home after all, and they had not found their families as well.

So, they had to continue, going ahead to reach their own city, before they finally found their families. But to say the truth, Olivia was feeling hesitant to part with them.

Of course she could just go ahead and go with them to Hillstown city. But, that was something that she was not going to do considering that she had just found her family a few days ago. Additionally, it seemed that there was an abnormally that had occurred in this city, just by observing the zombies.

So unless this problem was taken care of, Olivia wasn’t willing to get out of here. She had to ensure the security and safety of her family. As for the others, she did not really care about them.

"Now that’s what I was talking about! It has been a long while since the last time that we were home. I do wonder how many changes have occurred back at home." Adam stated excitedly. He was missing his family so much. The last time that he saw them was when he was a kid, but now, he was an adult.

"Of course there are a lot of changes that have happened. With the apocalypse coming, you might actually find that the city is destroyed just like this one. So, don’t expect that you are going to find something familiar." Olivia stated simply.

As the group spoke, they began going back into the territory. Nancy on the other hand did not stop them. But instead, she took out several pills that she was carrying, before she tried to feed them to her crow.

Before 1 minute went by, finally, a system prompt appeared in front of Henry.
