Chapter 290: Failed Attempt

...at this point, Nancy braced herself as she raised the two halves of the staff to block the punch that was launched towards her.

She did not close her eyes although she felt that she was definitely going to suffer this time. At the end of the day, she was a determined lady, and she would not just give up. At this moment, she believed that the lives of everyone else including herself depended on her.

So how could she give up? Although she was going to be injured, it was something that she was prepared for. It was not as if she had never thought that she would not be injured at one point or another, so, she had already made preparations on how she was going to handle the situation like that.

But just as she was expecting that the punch from the zombie was going to land, it suddenly froze. It stopped completely, as if it had suddenly hit an invisible wall that had appeared in front of her.

This left Nancy completely confused. She was wondering what was happening here. Could it be that the zombie had suddenly changed its mind? But if it actually changed its mind, this was definitely not a good thing.

Perhaps the zombie was trying to recruit the humans to join the zombie race? That was something that even if it was the only option out, she would never select it. But just as she was trying to understand the situation, a cocky voice reached her ears.

"Tsk! You know, I had given you a better option. I told you that you could just sit down, and begin dismembering yourself. You could go ahead and bite yourself so that we can test out if a zombie that has already been a zombified can turn into a zombie after getting itself bitten by another zombie or by itself.

And if any of those was not good, you could have agreed on my suggestion that you should volunteer as a lab rat, so that we can do investigation on how you are actually alive while several parts of your body are actually dead.

I’m pretty sure that if we understand this concept, we are going to be capable of improving humanity. You know, scientists always look for methods that they can use to make sure that humans become immortals." Adam’s voice was not loud, but it could be heard clearly in the silent area.

Nancy finally focused, removing her focus from the gigantic punch that had just stopped not far away from her hands, and observed clearly. It was then that she noticed that there was a small hand that was holding the gigantic arm of the zombie.

It might be true that It looked small when compared to the hand of the zombie, but when compared to normal people, that hand was definitely quite big. This was to be expected considering that Adam possessed a muscular stature, and he was quite big as compared to others.

At this moment, Nancy’s eyes suddenly narrowed. She did not understand what was happening here. But nevertheless, from what she could see, it was clear that it was Adam who had stopped the punch that was launched by the zombie and was about to land on her.

But the most ridiculous thing that she thought about when she looked at the situation, was that, Adam had actually stopped that punch using his own hand. Additionally, it was just a single hand, and it did not look like Adam was sweating to hold that giant hand of the zombie.

It might be true that currently, Adam was not holding the entire arm of the zombie but still, he was holding quite a big area. And it was just that area that he was holding that was capable of stopping the entire arm of the zombie from moving forward.

Roooar!

At first, the zombie was confused on how the attack that was about to land was suddenly stopped. At the same time, it felt that its right shoulder was somehow dislocated as it was forced to stop.

But then, hearing the very familiar voice that it was getting irritated of, it finally understood what was happening. It turned out that it was this irritating small human that was causing trouble again.

At this point, the zombie did not think about how it was possible for Adam to be able to prevent the attack that it had launched with full strength. Instead, all that was in its mind was to make sure that it killed Adam. He was another annoying fly that it wanted to get rid of.

It tried removing the arm that was grabbed by Adam closer to the elbow, but no matter how much it pulled back, Adam did not move even an inch. He was standing there steadily, looking at the zombie in amusement.

At the same time, he was trying to understand the concept of the zombie. Currently, he was holding the muscle tissues of the zombie directly. But he did not feel like there was any liquid on the muscles that he was holding. But instead, it was completely dry, as if it was the skin.

But of course, the blood that was coming from the wounds that had been inflicted by Nancy was the only fluid that was on the muscle tissues of the zombie.

Realizing that it was no longer capable of getting one of its hand from Adam’s grasp, the zombie decided to use its left hand. It clenched it into a fist, before launching it towards Adam.

At this point, it was already thinking of blasting Adam’s head like a watermelon. It was only after it killed Adam that it felt that it was going to be a little satisfied.

When Adam realized that the punch was heading towards him, using his right hand that was holding his battle ax, he suddenly launched an attack towards the incoming arm.

Then without even making a sound, the arm that was going towards his head was suddenly cut into two halves by the elbow.

Bang!

The forearm of the zombie that was cut landed on the ground. Since the zombie was attacking using its full strength, the moment that the arm that had been cut landed on the ground, it caused the ground to tremble a little.

Nancy had already retreated. At this point, she realized that this was not a place to be. She could not be close to this zombie, lest it decided to attack her.

But at the same time, she could not help but be surprised by the power that Adam possessed. It turned out that this guy was just this strong. He had been continuously provoking the zombie, not because he was a troublemaker, but it was because he was a person that was capable of dealing with the zombie that easily.

And right now, just thinking of the times that she had believed that she was saving him, she could not help but feel a little embarrassed. But at the same time, she felt some resentment towards Adam. Without hesitation, he let go of the hand of the zombie. The moment that he did so, the zombie stumbled backwards because it was not expecting that it was going to be released at this point, while it was trying to struggle to get out of Adam’s grasp.

Immediately after he released the zombie, Adam jumped into the air and attacked behind the zombie. Of course his movements could confuse anybody considering that instead of attacking the zombie, he was actually attacking behind it.

But it was finally understood why he was attacking behind the zombie in the next moment.

Bang!

The battle axe that was wielded by Adam collided with an object that was flying straight towards the zombie’s head. The object that was flying over fell onto the ground, and it was revealed that it was a black dagger.

Adam’s expression looked irritated at this moment. He looked into the distance and said, "Don’t try to tell me that it was another impulsive decision that you made. That you felt that if you killed this zombie, you are going to level up."

The people that were confused by what was going on suddenly looked towards the direction that Adam was looking into. That was when they realized that there was a figure that was standing closer to the shadow that was provided by a destroyed building.

Of course this was none other than Julie. All this while ever since they came out of the territory, she had disappeared. She was an assassin, and was someone that liked to stay in the shadows. She always seized the best moments to attack.

And had it not been for the fact that Adam blocked the attack that she had launched, the zombie would have definitely been killed by the dagger that she had used to attack.

After hearing what Adam had said, Julie simply stomped her feet on the ground before she retreated, disappearing into the building.

The zombie on the other hand did not care about the danger that it had been saved from. But instead, having already gained its freedom, and having Adam having his back towards it, it decided to take this chance to attack.

But it had just arrived behind Adam when suddenly, the battle axe that Adam was holding in his hand moved. In the next moment, the zombie was split into two halves by the waist.

Thud! Thud!

"I don’t think I can continue playing with you anymore. If I do, someone is going to try and snatch my kill away." Adam stated as he turned around and looked at the zombie that had already collapsed onto the ground.
