The Soul System in the Apocalypse -
Chapter 276: Changes, Strategy
Chapter 276: Changes, Strategy
The moment that Olivia arrived, she spoke. "There’s going to be a zombie tide that is coming over. That is the reason why there is a lot of tension in the air. It seems that this is just a routine, but this time, the number of zombies that are going to attack is going to be higher than normal."
"Ah? There’s something like that? I never knew that there would be a situation where it is seen as a routine where zombies are attacking people on a daily basis." Adam exclaimed.
Henry on the other hand simply raised his brows a little. Of course he was also surprised, but not by much. It was not as if it was a strange thing that the zombies would be attacking.
But from the fact that they were actually attacking on a certain scale, that immediately told him that there was definitely someone that was controlling the zombies from behind.
"Who said that the zombies are attacking on a daily basis? The zombies only attack after a certain period of time. And today is one of the days when they attack. But it is just that the scale of the attack this time is definitely higher as compared to all the previous times that the zombies have been attacking." Olivia stated as she looked at Adam with a frown.
"Oh." Adam responded simply. Nowadays, he was not much into arguing with Olivia.
Olivia on the other hand decided to give much more detailed information about what she had received.
According to the information, the zombies would always attack two times in a week. The first time would definitely be on a Monday, and the last day would be on a Friday. And today, it was on a Friday.
Occasionally, the number of zombies that would be attacking was not that high, ranging in only thousands. But still, the power level of the zombies were also not that much low, considering that there was always a certain number of zombies that were in the Bronze rank.
At often times, there would be mutant zombies that required several stronger people to take care of. If they were actually allowed to rampage, they would definitely cause the territory to suffer heavy losses.
In Lockwood City, there were three territories that had been constructed. Of course, all of them had been constructed using the territory building token. It might be true that the territory building token was rare to find, but still, ever since the second stage of the apocalypse, the number of the territory building tokens that could be found had also increased.
Initially, there was a large number of survivor camps that had been created. But all of them ended up getting destroyed, or joining the big ones. And that was why currently, there were only three territories present.
But still, these three territories were also competing against each other, wanting to be the main leaders of the entire city. Had it not been for the fact that the zombies still existed in the city, war would have definitely been waged already.
So, with the presence of the zombies in the city, and with them attacking all the territories at the same time, the leaders of each territory decided that they were not going to fight against each other, unless they took care of the zombies first.
They all understood one thing, and that was the fact that this was the battle for domination between different races. If they began fighting against each other when the zombies were still around, that would be giving the zombies an advantage.
All the three territories did not understand the reason why the zombies would attack in waves, and only on specific days.
For the entire of last month, this had finally become a routine because the zombies continuously attacked during that period. But today, a change had suddenly occurred, and that was the fact that the number of zombies that were going to attack this time was higher.
Before the zombies launched an attack, they would always congregate not far away from the city. And from the past days, the number of zombies kept on increasing, completely going beyond the highest number of zombies that had ever attacked at a territory.
And until now, the number of zombies that was supposed to attack this territory was still increasing. By now, the zombies should have already attacked, but still, they were not. They just remained standing in the same position, as even more zombies continued to join them.
All the higher-ups of the territory had already been alarmed. And according to the rumors, the leader of the territory was also going to appear today. After all, with this change, with the current power level of the zombies that were actually congregating not for away from the territory, it seemed that a person of higher power level was required to be able to subdue a high level zombie.
Of course the humans of this territory were also not idiots. They had also realized that the movements of the zombies was kind of erratic but organized. That implied that there was definitely a mind that was controlling them.
"Do you think that it is the same situation like the one that we experienced at Raga city?" Adam asked suspiciously.
"I’m not sure about that. But still, I do have some gut feeling that it might be related to something like that. Perhaps there is actually someone that has joined the zombies." Olivia responded.
Henry remained silent for a moment before he finally spoke. "It doesn’t matter that much really. At the end of the day, humans and the zombies can never coexist. So, we have to eliminate them if we want to survive."
Olivia and Adam thought that what Henry was saying was actually true. This was the time for the battle for domination, and there was no way that another race was going to be able to coexist with another, if they had to fight for the domination.
"But there’s something that I don’t understand here. If the zombies actually attack in thousands every 2 days in a week, and they attack three territories at the same time, don’t you think that the number of zombies should be reduced drastically by now?" Adam asked with a frown on his face.
"That is something that everyone finds strange. But until now, nobody can explain the reason why that is so. But in any case, everybody knows that they have to be ready every two days." Olivia shrugged her shoulders as she responded.
"So, what are you supposed to be doing now?" Henry asked. In this territory, he was not the leader. So, he could only follow what the rest of the people here did. Although he was sure that he was stronger, he was not sure how strong the leader of this place was.
Additionally, it was not as if he wanted to be the leader of this place, at least not for now. His priority at the moment was to get his family first. Immediately after that, he would think about the rest of the matters.
"My father has instructed me to come over and pick you up. We are going to be in the same group. Today, it is my father’s turn to defend the territory." Olivia stated.
"His turn? I thought that to defend the territory, everybody participates?" Adam asked confusedly.
"Not at all. For this territory, there is a group of people that hold high positions. My father is one of them. And each and every one of them possesses a group of subordinates that work under them. So, they are supposed to lead this group of subordinates in order to defend the territory.
As for the others, they would remain behind, and only take action if it is completely necessary. And from the looks of it, today, it is going to be necessary for the others to be able to backup my father. That is the reason why almost everyone is taking action, instead of just a part of them." Olivia explained.
"What a complex strategy. For me, I do believe that it would have been better if the entire territory attacked. This way, all the unnecessary deaths would be avoided. If you can gain an advantage over the zombies, why do you want to give them an advantage over you?" Adam asked. He was not understanding any concept here at all.
"You have to understand that there are no monsters around this place, and the people of the territories here can only depend on the zombies to level up. So, if all of them attack at the same time, the leveling up would definitely be slow.
So, it is better for only a small group of people to be the one that is in charge of dealing with the zombies. This way, they would be able to level up.
As for the deaths, that is something that is unavoidable. At the end of the day, for a person to be able to gain something, they would have to risk. So, all those that are going out to know that they can die at any moment." Henry explained what he understood about the strategy that was being used by this place.
Olivia did not say anything, but her silence meant that she was actually agreeing to what Henry had said.
Adam thought about it for a moment, and realized that it was actually true. Adam had just stopped using his brain for a while now. But in case he wanted to, he could actually become very smart.
"Okay let’s go. I don’t think we have much time, right?" Henry stated as he looked at a certain direction. From that direction, he could see that Stanley was actually approaching them.
