Chapter 260: Destroying the Altar

"It seems that the blood and the mutation crystals were used in order to power up this altar. But what is the main reason why this altar was set up?" Henry could not help but ponder on this matter. He was not the only one as the entire group began thinking about the reason why this altar was set up.

Just as the group was doing their observation, they suddenly noticed something. The level of the blood on the altar was actually decreasing as time went by.

This was the first time that they had realized something like this was happening. And then, looking at the initial level of the blood due to the stains that were left behind by the blood as its level dropped, the group finally realized that this blood was actually being used by the altar to do something.

Just as the group was wondering what was going on, the ground suddenly begun shaking. The entire shrine was actually shaking, and some of the seats that were present within the shrine actually broke into pieces.

Of course, this was to be expected considering that the seats were made out of wood, and they had been here for a very long time. And since there was a disturbance, there was no doubt that it might end up causing several of them getting destroyed.

But what the group found strange was the fact that the elevated platform where the altar was set up was not shaking as the entire place was.

Just then, a bright red light suddenly begin coming out of the altar. And with the intensifying of the red light, the level of the blood on the altar began dropping drastically.

The intensity of the shaking in the shrine actually increased as the blood level decreased. Other than that, the amount of killing intent that was coming from the altar also increased drastically.

This was something that alarmed Henry and the entire group. This was definitely not a good sign. After all, it was not just the blood level that was dropping, but even the mutation crystals that were embedded in one side of the altar had also began melting somehow, reducing in size.

"This altar is trying to activate something. We have to make sure that we destroy it as soon as possible before it activates whatever it is." Henry stated with a frown on his face.

Olivia and the rest of the group could actually feel the increase in the amount of killing intent. Other than that, the intensity of the bright red light that was coming from the altar was actually increasing as well, and according to what they could see, perhaps they would end up not being capable of seeing the altar again if the intensity of the light continued increasing.

As for the matter of the killing intent, nobody in the entire group was much fazed by it to the extent that they would retreat. Although they could feel that the killing intent here was so thick, they had already gotten used to the killing intent because they had already involved themselves in several life and death battles.

Without hesitation, Henry took out the sword from the idle space. After that, he tried using it to remove one of the mutation crystals that was embedded on the wall of the altar.

But he was surprised that no matter how hard he tried, he was not capable of pulling out the mutation crystal. He actually used almost his full strength, but no matter how much he tried, it was impossible for him to be able to do that.

"This thing does not want us to be lenient with it. I guess we will have to just destroy it before it activates whatever it is trying to activate." As he retreated a step behind, Henry stated while looking at the altar with a grim expression on his face.

Still holding the Fireball in one of his hand, Henry began retreating. He was not the only one as Olivia and the rest of the group also realized what Henry was planning. So, they also began retreating into a safe distance.

After everyone had retreated from the altar, Henry launched the fireball. Although the power of the fireball was not fully displayed due to the limitation that Henry had during the time that he was launching the attack, still, the power that it possessed could not be underestimated.

For that reason, the people in the surrounding areas could feel how high the temperatures had suddenly gone up. Even this place, although it was quite cold before, it was actually warming up.

Booom!

The moment that the fireball collided with the altar, an explosion resounded. A shockwave was generated, and Henry’s group was forced to retreat a few steps back again.

Of course, the reason why they did that was not because of the power of the shockwave, but instead, it was due to the fact that the power of the fireball after it had been launched and exploded was actually increased.

Henry squinted his eyes as he looked towards the direction of the altar. At this point, he could feel that there had to be something wrong with this altar. At the end of the day, how could it be just easily destroyed if it was something that belonged to the dark race, a plan of theirs?

After everything calmed down, Henry and the group could see that the altar was just as it was before. In fact, the intensity of the red light that was surrounding it had actually increased.

As for the shaking of the shrine, it had also intensified. The killing Intent was also increasing as time moved on, and this was something that worried Henry. He was not willing to face another challenge at this moment.

At the end of the day, although it was actually capable of making him level up, but he was not willing to waste much time here. After all, he still had a goal of reaching his family first.

She did not try to attack considering that if Adam had failed, and even Henry’s attack had not managed to do anything to the altar, then there was no need for her to waste her energy in attacking, something that was not going to have any impact.

"Let’s try that then." Henry nodded at that idea. He was just thinking of the same thing not long ago. So, he took a step forward and approached the altar.

But as he approached it, he realized that the amount of killing intent that was coming out of the altar intensified drastically during the past few seconds.

And the rate at which it was increasing was actually shooting up as well. From this, Henry could tell that whatever it was that was trying to happen by using the altar, it was trying to speed up the process.

When he looked at the amount of blood that was present on the altar, he could not help but be a little bit stunned. The amount of blood had actually dropped by half in just that short time that they had been contemplating on what to do, and during the time that they launched the attacks.

Not wanting to waste any more time, Henry conjured another fireball. It was also during this moment that he noticed another change that had occurred. Currently, the fireball was almost completely red, with only a few traces of the yellow flame being seen.

Nevertheless, Henry did not really care about the details. So, he looked at the blood that was on the altar and launched the attack towards it. But this time, he did not have the intention of destroying the altar, but instead, he was only aiming for the blood.

The moment that the red fireball touched the blood, the blood began evaporating at an incredible speed. And in no time, a red mist began rising from the altar.

After just a few seconds, the blood that was present on the altar was completely evaporated. And the moment that the blood was completely evaporated, the intensity of the red light that was surrounding the altar stopped increasing.

Other than that, the intensity of the shaking of the shrine did not increase, but remained stable.

Although this was something that Henry and the group were supposed to be celebrating about, but due to the fact that the shaking and the intense red light that was still surrounding the altar were still present, that implied that the process that the altar was carrying out was not stopped at all.

Just as Henry was about to try and get rid of the mutation crystals that were embedded on the side of the altar, something else happened.

Not far away from the altar, the space suddenly began crumbling. At the same time, black cracks began appearing, as if the space was being torn apart.
