Chapter 259: Shrine and Altar

"Let’s dive in and see what is being hidden inside here." Henry instructed before he jumped down into the hole that was about 3 meters in diameter.

Bang!

Immediately after landing, Henry got out of the way. At the same time, he observed his surroundings, just in case there was any ambush on him.

But after looking around for a while, other than the darkness that dominated the majority of the area that was not lit up by the light that came from the ground floor, there was nothing else.

Consecutively, Olivia and the left of the group landed on the ground. And just like Henry, after they landed, they got out of the way so that others could also land. Immediately after that, they looked at their surroundings cautiously.

The only one who did not come in was definitely Lenta. After all, with his body size, it was definitely going to be troublesome for him to be able to come down, unless they expanded the size of the hole.

Just as everyone was thinking that it was going to be difficult for Lenta to be able to come in unless the size of the hole was expanded, they suddenly heard something dropping on the ground.

The group Immediately turned their attention towards the direction of the sound which was in between them. And, they were actually surprised when they saw that whatever it was that had dropped was actually the miniature form of Lenta.

The group could not help but be surprised. After all, they had not expected that Lenta was actually capable of increasing and reducing his size at will.

"I never knew that you could do that." Henry stated with his brows arched.

"This is an ability that I gained only after I reached the gold rank." Lenta responded. Unlike the previous time where his voice was kind of gruffy, this time, his voice was kind of smooth, an improvement after he had reached the gold rank as well.

"Oh sh*t! You are already in the gold rank? Doesn’t that mean that currently, our group possesses four gold rankers?" Adam exclaimed after hearing what Lenta had said.

Olivia and Julie were also surprised. After all, they had not expected that there was actually another gold rank awakener amongst the group.

"Well I guess that is to be expected considering that the one that Henry was fighting against previously was actually at the 4th level of the gold rank." Olivia responded after regaining her composure.

After she said those words, both Adam and Julie finally realized it. At the end of the day, Henry was at the Silver rank for a long time as compared to them. At the same time, he was the one who had stayed at level 9 of the silver rank for a longer time, although he had actually killed so many monsters in the dungeon.

Nevertheless, he had not been capable of leveling up. So, it was not a surprise to them that he had actually managed to rank up after killing a golden rank member of the dark race.

"You guys should focus on something else. Right now, we don’t know what is in the surrounding areas. So, it is better for us to be cautious." Henry reminded. At the same time, he conjured a fireball that illuminated the surroundings.

For some reason, the moment that Henry activated the fireball, the surroundings lit up. It could be seen that the only source of light inside this place was actually the fireball, but nevertheless, the entire place was illuminated.

And the moment that the surroundings were illuminated, the entire group was completely dumbfounded by what they saw.

Inside here, it was as if they had actually entered a different place. It might be true that it was actually the basement of the building, but inside here, it looked completely different from the building on top of them.

Here, it was as if they had entered an old ancient temple. The carvings on the wall possessing the images of different people and different creatures with different shapes and sizes, some of them even looking so eerie.

Of course, that was not the only thing that they could see. They realized that there were several rows of seats in this place, indicating that this place was always visited by a group of people, most probably to hear something in here.

"Is this a church or something?" Adam couldn’t help but ask. In any case, the vibe that this place was giving them was like that of a place of gathering.

"Have you ever seen a church where there are carvings like these ones? The monsters are dominating the walls." Olivia responded with a snort.

Adam simply shrugged his shoulder in response. In any case, it was not as if he was serious about what he was saying. He was just trying to lighten up the mood.

Looking around the room, other than the carvings on the wall, the entire place was actually quite huge. According to Henry’s estimation, the area of this place was actually about 8400 m². That was just an estimation that he could make, but he was not sure about the real dimensions of this place.

Additionally, the height that they had dropped from the ceiling of this place was actually about 10 m. But of course, with the current power level the they possessed, they could not feel the distance at all.

"Look there. There’s something like an altar." Adam stated as he pointed towards a place where it looked elevated.

Henry and the rest of the group did not say anything. But instead, they focused on the altar that Adam had pointed towards. And it was also at this moment that they suddenly realized that it was actually this altar that was giving the killing intend that they were feeling all this while.

Steadily, after observing the surrounding areas, Henry began approaching the altar. He was not sure about what was going on, but what he was sure about was that, somehow, this altar was related to the dark race.

Just the string that was attached to Hanson during the time that they had arrived here, it had definitely come from this place, right?

Olivia and the rest of the group followed. But of course, they did not simply focus on the altar alone. Instead, they looked at the surrounding areas, making sure that if this was just a trap, they would not be ambushed.

After arriving at the elevated area, Henry did not directly go up. Instead, he remained in the same spot for a moment, and after about a minute or two of observation, he finally took a step forward.

His muscles were tensed, ready to take action at any moment. And the moment that he set his right foot on the elevated ground, he suddenly felt the changes that had occurred. But nevertheless, he did not retreat, but instead, he took his left foot and stood firmly on the elevated ground.

The moment that Henry stepped on the elevated ground, the amount of killing intent that was coming out of the altar suddenly increased. That was the change that Henry and the group had noticed.

From the amount of killing intent that was coming towards them, they could tell that whatever it was that was inside that altar was actually trying to warn them not to approach.

But nevertheless, Henry did not stop at that. So, after making sure that nothing else had changed other than the amount of killing intent that was directed towards them, he took another step forward, before taking another one, followed by yet another.

The moment that he arrived about 3 m away from the altar, the amount of killing intent that was coming out of the altar could practically solidify. Even Henry was having a difficult time due to the intensity of the killing intent.

This was the first time that he was experiencing killing intent of such a tremendous amount. Nevertheless, he was not just anybody, so, after observing the altar that was about 1 m tall, and possessing a dimension of about 2 meters by 1½ meters, he finally approached it until there was only a distance of 1 m between him and the altar.

The altar Itself was made out of a black kind of rock. It had several carvings of the creatures that could be seen on the wall of this shrine or temple. It was just that the sizes of the carvings were small as compared to the ones that could be seen on the wall.

Other than that, on top of the altar, Henry could see that there was blood. This amount of blood was not low at all, and from how he could see it, it actually did not belong to a human.

"That is the blood of monsters. I do believe that the monsters that we saw outside that were dead, were actually drained of their blood, before the blood was brought here." Lenta spoke at this moment.

Henry and the rest of the group finally understood. After all, the bodies of the monsters that was only bones and skin was something that they found strange, but yet they did not find any good reason why that was so.

But right now, looking at the blood that was forming a pool, although it was small, but still, the thickness of the blood talked much about what really happened.

"I think this is a mutation crystal." Adam who had arrived beside the altar at some point took a mutation crystal that was embedded on one side of the altar and showed it to the group.

Another mystery was yet answered at this point. They finally understood why the mutation crystals in the heads of the monsters had been taken away.

"It seems that the blood and the mutation crystals were used in order to power up this altar. But what is the main reason why this altar was set up?" Henry could not help but ponder on this matter. He was not the only one as the entire group began thinking about the reason why this altar was set up.
