The Soul System in the Apocalypse -
Chapter 188: An Approaching Horde
Chapter 188: An Approaching Horde
It was a young man who was wearing several golden chains around his neck. He looked at Henry and began shouting "What the f*ck! You think you..."
The guy had not finished speaking before suddenly, an bolt that was made of fire suddenly hit him on his forehead. The guy was still below the bronze rank, so, the moment that he was hit by the bolt of fire, his body was burnt into ashes.
When Henry did this, the entire group that was outside the barrier was momentarily stunned. Then, the entire group erupted. They had not expected that they were going to lose yet another member just because of his loud mouth.
But still, although they were all clamoring, they were doing that in a low voice. At the same time, they had all retreated, looking at Henry with fearful gazes.
"I will not be repeating myself again." Henry stated. And when the group heard that, they no longer decided to stay here. Not to mention the fact that the barrier that was surrounding the area where this young man was, was already capable of easily killing any of them.
The young man on the other hand was capable of burning one of them into ashes. This immediately told them that the strength of the person in front of them was not to be messed with.
In their hearts, they immediately began cursing the group that had given them the information. They belonged to the fighting club whose members were recently killed by Diana. The group had previously sent a group to come over and check the area, to provide the information.
The group that was in charge of providing the information went back to the base and gave them the information that there was a barrier that was surrounding the area, but, it was nothing big.
Who knew that the moment that they arrived here, when they tried to break the barrier, the guy who had attacked first was immediately blown into pieces. At the same time, the people inside here were just strong.
Although they had not experienced the strength of every person inside here, the young man that they had faced however was definitely way out of their league.
Currently, all that they were having in their minds was to retreat back to their base. There, they had to inform their leader about this. After all, it was good enough that they had been let go alive.
After the group retreated, Henry communicated with Diana and Storm, informing them that they were supposed to take care of the territory.
Since there was a telepathic connection between them, if something happened in the territory, other than the warning that would come if the territory protection barrier was broken, he would also be able to communicate with Diana and Storm.
With that finally out of the way, he got into his Jeep before driving out of the territory. He was going to try and look if there was anybody that could be recruited into the territory.
Currently, what they really lacked was manpower. But of course, he was not just going to take anybody into the territory. Although it might be true that there would come a time that he would have to accommodate all the other humans even if they were useless, this was definitely not the time.
Additionally, the other reason why Henry had decided to go out was to look for Jake. He was not sure about the location of the mutant warrior association, but still, he hoped that he could meet with Jake.
Jake was a person with great potential, holding the same grade of profession as Adam and Sarah. It was not easy to get an SS grade profession holder. After all, until now, the number of people with S grade professions that he had encountered until now only amounted to about eight people.
...
"Get moving! The zombies are coming over!"
"My son! That is my son! Don’t kill my son!"
"Get lost! Your son has already turned into a zombie, and if you don’t want to die, you better retreat!"
"Everyone! Find a shelter! We have to find another place that we can hide. The number of zombies inside the city is too much. If possible, we have to get out of the city."
"But if we get out of the city, there are still monsters that are waiting for us outside. There is no place that is safe!"
"That’s right. This is the apocalypse. We have to fight in order to survive. Additionally, the higher the number of monsters and zombies that we kill, the higher our strength."
"Stop blabbering all the nonsense right now. The horde of zombies is coming over! We are going to get overwhelmed if we don’t find somewhere that we can try to prevent them from swarming us."
At this moment, inside Hillstown City, the situation was a mess. Just like in Crystal City, the entire city was devastated. Smoke could be seen rising into the air from different areas around the city.
From time to time, heart wrenching screams could be heard alongside inhumane roars.
Currently, it was as if the entire world had already turned into a world that was red. The entire sky was currently covered in the red mist, not allowing even the sun to penetrate the ground.
This caused the atmosphere to look gloomy and at the same time eerie. Although the red mist could not be seen after it reached a certain altitude, but still, it continuously penetrated into the bodies of those that had not awakened as of yet.
Inside Hillstown City, the number of zombies was high as it could be. This was a city that was at a higher level as compared to Crystal City. So, the population here was way above Crystal city’s.
So, the number of humans that were dying and turning into zombies was increasing with every passing minute. And, the population of the humans that was already as low as it could be was already drastically reducing, putting the humans into the danger of extinction inside the city.
But, unlike Crystal City that did not possess any military power, there was a military camp that was located close to Hillstown City. This military base had acted during the moment of attack.
The majority of the soldiers had managed to become awakened, becoming strong mutant warriors. And when the zombies descended, those that had not turned into zombies easily neutralized the soldiers that had become zombies.
Since zombies could not utilize the modern weapons due to their lack of intelligence, it was an easy task for the trained and strengthened military warriors to deal with them.
After that, the soldiers went ahead and secured an area, creating a temporary survivor’s camp. Of course, they also realized that they could not set the camp in the middle of the city, as that would make them an easy target of the zombies from both directions of the city.
In the end, they set up the survivor’s camp in the southern part of the city. They then went ahead and began the rescue missions. They of course prioritized those that were holding higher positions before the descent of the apocalypse.
But still, they did not ignore the normal civilians. So, the entire camp was filled up so soon. But, the problem that they were having was getting the supplies. After all, it was not easy to secure the supplies with the number of zombies that were present in the city.
Moreover, transportation had become difficult since the roads were currently full of cars. Additionally, due to the attack of the monsters, some parts of the roads had already been destroyed.
Due to the lack of food, the military had no choice but to start providing the food in rations. So, although a lot of people complained that the food was not enough, there was nothing that they could do. Anyway, it was better that they could eat, rather than getting eaten by the zombies.
Currently, inside Hillstown city, there was a group of seven soldiers that were moving. They were not alone, they had brought along a group of six people that they had rescued along the way. They were planning on bringing them back to the camp.
They had been sent over to look for food, but, along the way, they had found these survivors, and decided to bring them along. But, they had never expected that they were going to be attacked by a large group of zombies not long after they had entered the core of the city.
Had it been normal, where the number of zombies did not exceed 100, then, it would have not been difficult for them to be able to retreat easily. Of course, they themselves were warriors, awakened, and even one of them had already reached level 1 of bronze rank.
But, currently, they had realized that there was a large number of zombies that was approaching. According to their estimation, the number of zombies that was approaching was in thousands.
Additionally, due to their movements, they were definitely attracting yet another large number of zombies from the surrounding areas. The zombies were always sensitive to sound, so, the moment that they heard such a loud commotion, they would definitely rush over.
The group really wanted to retreat, and if they were alone, it would have not been a problem for them to rush away from the group of zombies. It was just that it was going to be a little difficult for them to be able to get out of here unscathed.
Currently, they had to take care of the six people that they had rescued. They were soldiers, and they could not just abandon others. Additionally, during the time that they were given the mission, they were told that if they could find any person that they could save, then, they had to do so.
"Captain, we have no choice. We have to leave them behind if we want to survive." One of the soldiers stated as he looked at the group of zombies that was still a distance away grimly.
