Chapter 174: Endless Tide of Monsters

Chapter 174: Endless Tide of Monsters

Just as Jake and his group continued waiting, hoping that the level of the water would drop, and the destruction that was being caused by the waves on the building was going to stop, they suddenly detected that there was killing intent that was directed towards them.

Although it was true that not everyone could easily detect the killing intent, but, it was just that, the killing intent this time was too intense. It was as if the other party was not trying to hide the killing intent at all.

Moreover, since they were the targets, they were experiencing it directly. It was just that, they could not see who the owner of the killing intent was, but still, they felt that it was coming from outside the building, inside of the water.

Just feeling the killing intent made their bodies tremble a little. They felt that they were facing a creature that was directly from hell. They had not even seen what the creature was, but still, it was already giving them goosebumps.

Just as they were wondering what was going on, they suddenly detected movements within the water that was outside the barrier. And in no time at all, several aquatic animals that had already mutated, becoming even more ferocious suddenly charged towards the barrier that was surrounding the building.

It might be true that the underwater crystal was capable of protecting the building and those inside it to be able to stay within the water for 6 hours, but, that was all. It was not a defensive artifact, and it was already good enough that it was capable of minimizing the damage that was being caused by the objects that were being launched towards the building.

So, when this hoard of aquatic monsters suddenly charged towards the building, they penetrated the barrier, although it was a little difficult. Still, the moment that they managed to go through the barrier, the majority of them began flopping around.

The monsters that were attacking this time consisted of fish, which seemed not to be capable of breathing in land. So, after they charge over, they could not breathe, something that made them begin struggling for air.

But although the fish were not successful, there were crabs and other monsters that Jake and the group had never seen before. All of them were able to walk on land, approaching the building at an incredible speed.

Each and every one of them was mutated, and a crab for instance currently possessed huge and strengthened claws, and a slightly more muscular legs than it possessed. As it moved, the ground beneath it was broken, evidence to how heavy the crab was.

Jake’s group suddenly felt a chill down their spines as they looked at the group of monsters that was approaching them. It was not just a single monster, or two. Rather, it was a group of monsters that consisted of hundreds of them. Perhaps they had already reached thousands.

After all, even though the fish could not have breathe on land, but, they kept on jumping out of the water as if they were not afraid of death. So, in no time at all, below the building, a huge heap of mutated fish was piled up.

Due to the weight that they possessed, those that were being buried below were either squashed to death, or prevented from making any movements.

As for the crabs and the others that could walk and breathe on land, they charged towards the building. Jake’s group was currently on the 8th floor. So, they were a distance away from the monsters.

But, from the way that the monsters were climbing up, it was obvious that they were targeting them specifically. Just thinking of facing that large group of monsters, the group could not help but tremble, wondering if they were going to make it at all surviving this attack.

"All of you listen up! Although it is true that they have large numbers but they cannot attack us at the same time. So, we have to take advantage and kill the monsters that reach the two floor first. Make sure that you kick them down, so that they can take others along side of them below the building." Jake instructed.

Currently, there was nothing that they could do other than fight. If they did not want to die, they could only fight. Since the monsters were not capable of attacking them at the same time, they had to take advantage of this.

Immediately after he instructed that, Jake took a step forward and came closer to the edge of the building. Here, the window had already been broken down, so, it was an easy task for him to be able to fight with the monsters from this angle.

It was just that, currently, the monsters had surrounded the entire building. So, the group had no choice but to split up. Otherwise, if they did not take care of all sides at the same time, they might end up getting surrounded.

The moment that the first monster arrived in front of him, Jake did not hesitate. His green eyes lit up with a dim light for a moment before a huge hurricane was released from his body.

The strength of the hurricane was so great that that monsters that had been climbing up the building were suddenly blown away. Although a few of them managed to resist, but the most of them were already made to lose their grasp on the building.

For that reason, the scene of a large number of monsters falling from the sky occurred. And, as they dropped from above, they knocked down those that were on their path. Since they were at the 7th or some of them had already arrived at the 8th floor, a fall of such a great distance made them land on the ground with a huge impact.

Bang! Boom! Splat!

There was a variety of monsters that had attacked this time. Once they began falling, some of them managed to survive, but still, the majority of them ended up dead, or gravely injured. Some had already broken their legs, even some of them having their backs broken.

But, what surprised Jake and the two people that were beside him was that, even those that had gotten injured still dragged their bodies towards the building. It was as if they were not feeling any pain, and neither did they get afraid of that they were going to be thrown from the building again.

Jake could not help but wonder if these monsters had low intelligence or something. But, he thought that that was not the case. After all, he could clearly remember the time that the bear had left in a hurry because of the fear that it was feeling.

Since the monsters mainly depended on their instincts to judge the situation, those monsters that had already fallen onto the ground were supposed to know that by going up there, they were going to face the danger of death.

But then, looking at the bright red eyes of the monsters that were attacking, Jake realized that there was something wrong with these monsters. It seemed that there was something that was controlling them.

Just thinking of the possibility of there being another monster that was of a higher level, capable of controlling these monsters, Jake could not help but fall into a moment of despair. But still, he did not dare to show this in front of his subordinates.

If he showed any weakness in front of his subordinates, then, they might as well end up giving up. And if that happened, then, there was no doubt that there was nobody that was going to survive during this attack.

Jake knew that he was no longer going to depend on just dropping the monsters from the eight floor. Rather, he had to do more than that.

Mobilizing the energy in his body, he summoned several wind blades. And just like cutting vegetables, they easily slashed through the monsters, making blood and limbs to drop onto the ground.

Immediately after Jake was done with that, he shifted his position to another place. He was currently the person with the most combat power. So, he was the one who was capable of dealing with large number of monsters, unlike those that depended on the small skills that could easily deal with a single or two monsters.

But still, even as Jake moved from place to place, attacking, he made sure to continue trying to preserve his energy. After all, if it was true that there was yet another monster that was behind all of this, then, he had to be prepared to fight.

Since the monsters that were attacking were not that strong, Jake did not have to spend a lot of energy in order to kill them. But, he realized that there was yet another problem. That was, the large number of monsters was piling below the building.

For that reason, they were creating a ladder made of dead bodies, enabling the other monsters to easily reach the top floors. Additionally, the number of monsters that was continuously charging out of the water did not seem to have an end.

As for the tsunami, although the height was still the same, Jake had realized that the intensity of the waves had reduced. For that reason, the objects were no longer being thrown towards the building from the water.

But still, from time to time, there would be a boulder or a car that smashed into the barrier that was created by the underwater crystal. But, the majority of them did not manage to do any much damage to the building.

ROOOAR!

Just as Jake wanted to continue with his venture of killing the monsters as he waited for the chance to confront the one behind all of this, a sudden roar reached his ears.

And the moment that they heard that roar, Jake and his group felt their minds blurring, almost going blank.
