Chapter 108: Mature Vein Tree
Chapter 108: Mature Vein Tree
Just as Henry began focusing, he suddenly heard the sound of movements heading their way. Looking towards his left, he was surprised to find out that, there was a big vine that was heading towards him.
Without hesitation, he took out his sword, and slashed forward.
The big vine that was approaching him was immediately slashed into two. But nonetheless, another vein launched forward towards Henry and Diana. In fact, there were more than one of the veins that were charging towards Diana and Henry.
Additionally, after Henry had cut off the vein that had attacked first, the others had suddenly been covered by several thorns. They looked terrifying as they approached at an incredible speed.
Had they been just normal thorns, then, Henry would have not cared about them. But, it was completely different now. Considering the fact that this was a dungeon, everything here might be dangerous and life threatening.
The thorns were like sharp spikes, wanting to tear holes into Henry. Nonetheless, Henry did not hesitate, and began continuously attacking. Diana was not idle as well. She took out her bow, and, condensed the wind element into several arrows that were shot towards the direction where the veins were coming from.
But, as the arrows charged forward, they were blocked by several veins that formed into a shield, by combining themselves. Although they were not able to completely stop the arrows, still, they managed to reduce the lethality.
And after several veins fell onto the ground, they would always be others that would come forward. It was as if the source of the veins was endless.
As he slashed several veins that were attacking them, Henry frowned. He knew that this could not go on anymore. After all, they were spending a lot of energy, and, currently, they were inside a dungeon.
If they were left without any energy, then, they would be completely defenseless. Moreover, he had also noticed that, he could no longer communicate with Storm. Just like the previous day, it was as if there was a barrier that was preventing the link between the two of them from functioning.
So, if he and Diana were drained off the energy in their bodies, then, they were going to be sitting ducks.
So, as he attacked, he enveloped the sword in fire. It was only then that he suddenly realized that, the effectiveness of the fire was way better than using the sword.
It was as if, the one that was launching the veins was afraid of fire. And knowing this, Henry began launching fireballs towards the source. He had already realized that, the one that was attacking them was not that much of a threat towards them.
So, he was not going all out. But, he had to ensure that they completed the battle as soon as possible, to ensure that, if there was yet another predator around, they would not be attracted over.
It seemed that the owner of the veins was getting anxious as the two of them began approaching. So, the rate at which the veins attacked them increased.
Of course, Henry had already realized that the one that was attacking them was something that possessed the wood element. But, due to the thick forest, he could not see who was attacking them. So, the only solution now was to head towards the direction of the source of the veins.
Bang!
After about 5 minutes, Henry and Diana finally managed to break through the barrier that had been created by the veins. Due to their fear of fire, they were not able to remain sturdy.
The moment that the barrier broke, what was revealed in front of Henry and Diana was a small tree. This tree was kind of strange, considering that, it had leaves that were divided into three.
Currently, it possessed a diameter of about 30cm. It was about 3 m tall, and, it completely stood out in this thick forest. In the surrounding area, it was the only tree that was smaller as compared to the others.
It was also during this moment that Henry finally realized how this tree was attacking them. From the branches, the veins extended, getting thicker as they elongated.
[Vein tree infant
Race: Forest Spirit
Power Level: Level 1 Bronze rank
Skills: Vein manifestation, vein hardening, spikey veins.]
After focusing on the tree in front of them, finally, Henry saw the stats. Of course, he was not surprised to find out that the small tree in front of them was actually at the Bronze rank.
Nonetheless, what surprised him was the fact that, this tree was just an infant. If an infant was already at the Bronze rank, then, what about a tree that had already matured?
Henry finally realized how dangerous this dungeon was. So, that implied that, as they moved, they had to be more cautious.
Currently, the tree was no longer attacking them. Instead, it simply waved its branches, as if it wanted to attack them, but, it did not have the ability to do so. Henry could guess that, the reason behind this was simply because it had already consumed a lot of energy billing with the two of them.
Well, this was to be expected. After all, the number of veins that it had launched towards them was incredible, and, it had managed to hold them back for about 5 minutes. Of course, that was simply because neither Henry nor Diana were going all out.
"Diana, finish it off." Henry said. Currently, Diana was still at the first level of the Bronze rank. So, the more apocalyptic creatures that she killed, the higher the chances that her level would increase.
Diana did not hesitate. Instead, she pulled the string of her bow, condensed an arrow made from wind, and shot it directly towards the center of the tree. That was the part that she detected that, the core of the tree was.
Bang!
The arrow exploded together with the tree. What was left were several splinters that spread onto the ground. Additionally, Henry also realized that, there was a mutation crystal there.
Henry went ahead and picked it up, as he felt that the energy in his body had also increased a little. It was obvious that, by killing this vein tree infant, Diana had increased the chances of breaking through to the second level of the summoner profession.
Henry looked at the mutation Crystal that he had picked up. He didn’t find it any different from the ones that he had found outside. It was a pity that, currently, he could not purchase many important things from the system store considering that, the amount that was required was just incredible.
After he was done with that, the two of them began moving once again. Henry made sure to focus his gaze, ensuring that, if there was any creature in front of them, then, he would be able to realize it. Of course, if it was hidden, then, the ability would not be able to detect them.
Nonetheless, even though it was true that the ability was kind of unreliable, still, that was all that they currently possessed.
As they moved, they encountered several other vein tree infants. It was as if the area that they had been teleported to consisted of only the vein trees. Additionally, they had not met with even a single mature tree.
Although the rate at which they were encountering the vein tree infants was low, the more they moved, the more they realized that, the rate was increasing, even though it was just at a low pace.
At the same time, as they kept on moving, Henry tried several times to contact the others that had come with him into the dungeon, but, he was not able to connect with them.
Nonetheless, he hoped that, just like him, the others too had been teleported to an area that consisted of mainly low ranked dungeon creatures. Otherwise, if either of them was suddenly teleported in front of a monster that was already at the 9th level of the Bronze rank, or above, then, they could only bid the world goodbye.
As they kept moving on, Henry suddenly felt that there was something wrong. After all, they had already been moving for 30 minutes, but, they had not encountered any supposedly claimed opportunity.
It was just that, they had been encountering several vein tree infants, which they killed as fast as possible. But, that could be said to be danger, rather than an opportunity.
They had been given 3 hours only. However, after 30 minutes, Henry had not found anything important. Additionally, the summoner profession had not even leveled up once. Even though Henry felt that it was quite close to leveling up, but, it was different as he had not yet leveled up.
If he had known that there was nothing important here, then, he might have as well decided not to come over. Instead, he could have simply waited for the necromancers to come out one after the other, before killing them off. That was the best way to gather the energy that could be utilized to level up.
However, Henry believed that, since the necromancers and the monsters were also attracted over, that implied that, there had to be something here. Considering the fact that, the necromancers seemed to possess more information, Henry believed that, since they came over, then, there had to be something that was useful here.
"Let’s increase the pace." Henry said after a moment. He realized that, if they wanted to make it, then, they had to ensure that they reached the end of this forest as soon as possible, in case there was an opportunity outside.
Considering the fact that, the rate at which the trees were appearing one after the other, had increased, then, Henry believed that, if there was an opportunity in this dungeon, then, it was supposed to be in the direction that they were heading to.
