The Soul System in the Apocalypse -
Chapter 103: The Mist’s Strange Behavior
Chapter 103: The Mist’s Strange Behavior
A metallic scent suddenly began spreading into the air. And what followed was, red mists began spreading out of the clouds, spreading all over the city.
Everyone hurriedly began retreating. They had experienced the apocalypse before, and they had realized that previously, during the time that they had been pressed onto the ground, several of their loved ones turned into zombies.
And now, looking at the strange cloud of mist that was approaching them, all of them began retreating with fear clear in their eyes. Nobody was willing to be touched by that mysterious mist.
Additionally, the scent of blood that was filling the air was enough to make them afraid. To them, this red mist was no different from an evil invocation.
"Hurry up! Let’s get back into the building as soon as possible!"
"Get out of my way. I want to go and look for my daughter. I don’t want this evil mist to take away my daughter from me!"
"You idiot! I already said get out of my way. If you want to die, then go and die alone, don’t drag me into this!"
"You dog, get out of my way. You have to know your place."
"Do you think that just because you were rich previously, you are supposed to talk to me in such a way? I’m going to beat you up right now!"
Commotion suddenly ensued. At this moment, everyone thought that, with the appearance of the mist, there was bound to be danger. So, some of them began running away, trampling onto those that had already fallen onto the ground, while some of them, thinking that this was the end, began doing what they thought that would please them.
And of course, the majority of them attacked the group of the rich. After all, they were the reason as to why they had been so huddled up inside the basement, even though there was yet another space that they could have shared together, to make everyone comfortable.
Of course, the ordinary citizens were filled with resentment. After all, they were there during the time that this group of people was forcing the governor to make sure that they did not stay in the same place.
During this time, some people picked up metal rods, stones and so on, as they began fighting with each other. At the same time, others were retreating. But still, there were some of them that were caught up in between the fights.
While this large group of people was fighting, many people began dying one after the other. After all, even though the rich were previously rich, but now, they were surrounded by an angry mob.
Nonetheless, nobody realized that, as the mist approached them, after it reached a certain altitude, it suddenly became invisible.
The sky had already been blotted by the dark red mist, blocking the sun rays from reaching the ground.
After the mist became invisible, it began diffusing into the bodies of everyone present, through their skin, the air that they inhaled, and other orifice that were present on their bodies.
It was Invisible, and nobody noticed. They believed that the mist had stopped in the sky, and was no longer descending on them.
The fight on the other hand did not last long. Instead, after the group had already dealt with the most annoying bunch, they also began focusing on the cloud of mist that was on top of their heads.
After they suddenly realized that they were no longer in danger of being contaminated by the mist, they suddenly came back to their senses. They stopped fighting, and went back to discussing on what they were supposed to do in order to kill as many zombies as possible.
But suddenly, in front of everyone’s eyes, a screen appeared. Previously, this screen had only appeared in front of those people that had killed at least a single apocalyptic creature, and possessed a certain amount of energy.
But now, it had appeared in front of everyone in the whole world, no matter where they were currently.
[To finalize the descending of the apocalypse, the human race is going to be given another advantage. Other than growing stronger with the number of apocalyptic creatures that they kill, humans will also be given a chance of choosing a non-combat profession.]
[In order to qualify for the selection of the profession, each and every human will have to kill at least a single apocalyptic creature. In this way, you will be allowed to choose a non-combat profession. But still, for those that wish to choose the combat profession, you will have to kill 10 apocalyptic creatures.]
[For the non-combat professions, all that you will need to do will be to do something according to your professions. The more you succeed in what you do, they higher the chances of leveling up.]
[If you are a doctor, the more patients you treat, the higher the probability of leveling up, depending on the degree of the treatment and success rate. If you are blacksmith, then, the more weapons you forge, the higher the chances of leveling up.]
[For the sake of the human race, and for the sake of domination, you will all have to work hard and together. With the descent of the myriad races, you will have to compete against them. Work hard.]
Silence dominated the entire world at this moment. Of course, this was something that had happened for the humans, but for the monsters and the other races that had already descended into this world, they did not care.
Instead, they were busy planning what they were supposed to do, in order to dominate. At the end of the day, it seemed that, this apocalypse was supposed to be a competition for domination.
And, it seemed that only a single race could dominate the entire world. But, as for whom it was, that depended on the capabilities of the people of the entire race.
...
Excitement began surging in the hearts of everyone present. They had already been getting worried about the fact that they had to deal with 10 zombies in order to become mutant warriors, but now, they had been given a chance.
Even though the professions that they could select were not combat ones, at least, they believed that, with these non-combat professions, then, they would be able to be considered useful, and be able to join the territory.
"Yes! Now, I only need to deal with a single zombie. Where are they? After all this commotion, were zombies not supposed to be here?"
"Stop yelling already! I’m sure that the moment that you see a zombie, you will be the first one to start running."
"F*ck you! Won’t you let me keep a low profile? You don’t have to tell everyone else that I am the most perceptive person."
"What perceptiveness? You are just a coward."
"Do you want to test if I am a coward or not? Come over, let us fight."
"Fight your head! We are in the apocalypse, and we are supposed to look for a way that we can kill zombies. Why should I waste my energy on fighting you?"
Of course, discussions erupted once again. And after a while, they began forming groups, those that trusted each other, deciding to work together in order to get the zombies.
They knew how important it was for them to be able to get the professions. As long as they did that, then, they might as well join the territory. That way, not only would their safety be ensured, but, even those that had gotten their children to join the territory, would be able to reunite once again.
But, this group was bound to be disappointed. After all, other than the small group of zombies that was currently locked in their houses, all the other zombies in the city had left.
Additionally, they were supposed to be aware of the robbers and other people that were currently using this chance to gather as many resources as possible.
Without the threat of the zombies, the majority of the bases had decided to take this chance to gather as many resources as possible. After all, they were not sure if the zombies were going to come back or not.
...
While all of that was happening, Henry was looking towards the west. That was the direction that he had managed to hear the sound of an explosion.
And now, the sky had just changed. It had become blood red. He had also realized that, this red mist that was descending from the sky was actually capable of sipping into the humans. but, the good thing was that, it only entered the bodies of those that had not yet become mutant warriors.
"It seems that there is something wrong with this red mist. We will have to look for ways to counter it. And for the children, I don’t know if they can become mutant warriors, but, if they want to avoid the mist, they will have to be." Henry said.
At this moment, they did not know about the reason as to why the mist had suddenly appeared. So, it was going to be better if they looked for a solution, rather than allowing it to continue influencing them.
Even though the effects might not be visible now, nobody could say the same in the future. So, apart from planning to head to the West, Henry had to plan on making sure that everybody that came to the territory had become a mutant warrior.
After about 2 hours, finally, Olivia and the rest arrived. But, other than the people that could enter the territory normally, like Olivia, Sarah, Jasmine, Adam and the team that had recently joined, nobody else was allowed to pass by the barrier.
Just as they were confused, Henry walked out of the territory building. He looked at the crowd in front of him and said, "We are going to make some changes on what is going to happen."
