The Soul System in the Apocalypse -
Chapter 100: Maxwell’s Decision
Chapter 100: Maxwell’s Decision
The goblin struggled several times to tear apart the net that was enveloping it, but no matter how hard it struggled, it could not destroy the net. It was as if the net was made out of threads of lightning that were completely indestructible.
Roar!
The goblin roared in anger, as it began smashing the mace in its hand from side to side, trying to attack Alicia. But no matter how hard it tried, the net that was around it tightened further.
And in no time, blood began leaking out of the wounds that had been cut on the goblin’s skin. Even though the lightning was burning the wounds, it could not manage to stop the bleeding.
Even though the goblin was unwilling, it knew that currently, it was definitely going to die. So, it looked at Alicia’s direction, and decided to use its last bit of strength, to at least deal with her. There was no way that it was going to allow a human that was this strong, to continue staying here. After all, this was going to be against the plan that they had.
But before it could even do what it wanted to, another thick bolt of lightning suddenly charged towards it. And before the goblin could react, the bolt of lightning pierced through its head, ending its life there.
Thud!
The dead body of the goblin dropped onto the ground, together with the mace. As for the goblins that were surrounding them, they began retreating one after the other.
They had come over simply because they had been instructed by the goblin here. But now, it had been killed, and, the opponent that they were facing was way stronger than they were. So, they did not have any will to fight.
Someone amongst the group wanted to chase after the goblins, just to vent out the anger that she was possessing due to the near death encounter, but she was stopped by Alicia.
"We have to get out of here as soon as possible. We don’t have to deal with the goblins before we prepare ourselves. Let’s gather as many people as possible so that we can deal with this group." Alicia said calmly.
Previously, she was not the leader of the group. But now, since she was currently the strongest person present, nobody objected what she had said. Additionally, all of them were tired, and they were not ready to go after the goblins, continue fighting with them.
Alicia currently believed that with the capability that she possessed, at least, the chances of survival had been increased. Additionally, Hillstown city was big, and the number of survivors was definitely high as well.
So, if they managed to get more people that had reached the Bronze rank, then, the chances of survival would also be increased.
...
Back in the territory, Henry was the only person left. Everyone else had gone out, either to level up, or to look for people that they were going to recruit.
Nonetheless, Henry found out that, there was not even a single apocalyptic creature that was attacking this time. Unlike the previous time that several zombies would wonder here, this time, there was not even a single one of them that arrived to attack.
Even though the peace might actually be a good thing, but, this kind of silence was completely unsettling. At the same time, Henry began linking the fact that, the necromancers possessed information about the humankind, and how they were supposed to be, to the disappearance of the zombies.
According to his guesses, all the zombies had been attracted somewhere, and had been transformed into skeleton warriors. Even though the skeleton warriors did not possess much combat capability, but still, then numerical advantage that they possessed was incredible.
Had it not been for the fact that Henry possessed the soul system, perhaps, Crystal City would have already been taken over by the undead. At the end of the day, he was the one who had provided the people in his group with skills of higher levels, enabling them to possess higher combat capabilities.
Boom!
Henry suddenly heard the sound of an explosion echoing from a distance. The sound was quite faint, that had it not been for his sharp senses, then, he would not even have realized it.
The direction of the sounds origin was from the west. Henry could tell this simply because, even though the territory was currently surrounded by an invisible barrier, that did not prevent the sound from coming in. It only prevented the attacks and the enemies from penetrating into the territory.
Henry went towards the window that pointed towards the west. Lucky enough, the territory building was quite tall, and he was able to see into the distance.
He could see that a large cloud of dust and smoke had suddenly erupted, as if there was a nuclear bomb that had been launched in that area.
Henry frowned. He began wondering if the soldiers had come over, and had decided to start using bombs to deal with the zombies. But on the second thought, he realized that the zombies were currently not available in this city.
So, that implied that, if the soldiers came over, then they might encounter a group of skeleton warriors. But, what could be the cause of the explosion?
Since he did not know about what was happening, Henry decided to call everyone back into the territory. They had already been out for about 3 hours, and that was enough.
Considering that he could feel the connection between him and his two summoned creatures, he knew that they had not encountered any intense fight. Additionally, both Diana and Storm were still at the first level of the bronze rank.
By communicating with Diana, he informed her that they were supposed to pass by and take Jasmine with them when they were coming back. It had already been long enough, and this should be enough time for Jasmine to decide whether she was going to join the territory with her parents or not.
...
The governor had been mulling over what Jasmine had told him. Even though he was angry, there was nothing that he could do about it.
Jasmine had already informed him that, she had met up with Xavier, but, since he had already betrayed them, she had no choice but to kill him in the most effective way, rather than allowing him to be killed by others who are going to be cruel on him.
Maxwell knew his daughter Jasmine well. She really loved her younger brother, and there was not even a single time that she had ever wanted to harm him. But now, it was completely different.
Even he himself was angry at the fact that, the son that was supposed to inherit his position in terms of politics, and try to take over the position of the governor during the elections, had suddenly turned against humanity.
Moreover, he was willing to sacrifice even his own family, simply because he wanted to get stronger, and become unrestrained. But in the end, he had actually decided to become a slave, completely denying himself the freedom.
And, had Jasmine let him go, it was obvious that he was going to go away unless they locked him up. At the end of the day, he was doing all of this simply because he thought that his sister and parents were denying him the freedom.
But nonetheless, even though he understood the reason, the same could not be said about not feeling the pain of losing his own son. It was not long ago that he had lost a wife, and now, he had just lost a son.
The pain that he was undergoing was immense, but he did not have the chance to shed the tears, considering that he was supposed to control the group of people here. Otherwise, if he revealed his weak side, this group of people might take advantage of him.
Lucky for him, Jasmine was strong, and she was able to restrain everyone present, making them all behave obediently.
"Father, we have to go. We can no longer continue staying here. Things are getting more and more dangerous as even creatures of different races are appearing." Jasmine said as she looked at her father.
Maxwell took a deep breath, and knew that what Jasmine had said was the truth. After all, it had already been about 3 days ever since the apocalypse descended, but, there was not even a single shadow of a soldier coming over.
That implied that, they were either caught up somewhere, or, a group that had been sent over had been killed off by the apocalyptic creatures.
"Okay then. Tell everyone about it." Maxwell got to his feet as he said that. At the same time, he looked at his youngest daughter who was currently sleeping, and couldn’t help but smile bitterly.
She was just young, but she was forced to encounter the apocalypse. She wasn’t given the chance to enjoy her youth, and had to get herself entangled in the matters of life and death.
"Father, that will not happen. I already informed you about what is going to happen. Only those people that are considered important, and have some capabilities, are going to be allowed into the territory. Any other free loader is not going to be allowed there." Jasmine replied helplessly.
Maxwell looked at his daughter with a frown on his face. Then, he asked, "Is there really no any other choice? At least, we have to allow the civilians there for protection. They can cook or do something like that and be helpful to the territory."
"It is not like we ourselves cannot cook. Moreover, a large group of useless people is definitely going to consume a lot of resources. So, it is way better if we get people that are going to be useful for us to spend the resources on them." A stoic voice echoed.
