Chapter 893: Chapter 893 Out Of Danger

There was a long pause before his father finally spoke, voice lower, but clearly caught off guard.

"Wait... What? You’re serious about that girl? She’s going to be my future daughter-in-law?"

Alexandre didn’t hesitate. "Yes," he said. Calm. Clear. Unshakable.

"What the hell?! They tried to touch my daughter-in-law?! This is war!" Alexandre’s father exploded before abruptly hanging up the call, so fast that Alexandre didn’t even have time to respond.

It was understandable, though. Alexandre had always been proper and distant, never involved in scandals or even mildly interested in women. For the longest time, his father had assumed his son intended to remain abstinent for life. So the moment he heard Alexandre was seriously pursuing a woman, it wasn’t just surprising, it was cause for celebration. His father was thrilled. In fact, he was so happy, he was already prepared to go to war for her.

Even Alexandre hadn’t expected such a drastic reaction. He was stunned by how quickly his father did a complete 180, all because of Hera. But maybe he had never realized just how much his lack of romantic involvement had worried his family. The idea that their bloodline might end with him had clearly been weighing on them.

The truth was, his father’s earlier harsh words had been a test. He wanted to see whether Alexandre was truly serious about Hera, or just being impulsive, risking conflict with powerful families over a passing infatuation.

Alexandre thought he was the one using reverse psychology, but in the end, it was his father who had outplayed him. For all of Alexandre’s brilliance and composure, his father still had the upper hand when it came to life experience and psychological tricks.

After getting the answer he wanted, Alexandre’s father wasted no time reporting the news to his wife and the family elders, who were gathered in the living room wearing anxious, scrunched-up expressions. But as soon as they heard the update, smiles lit up their faces, at least for a moment.

Then, the family patriarch, Alexandre’s grandfather, spoke, his voice calm yet commanding."Now it’s time to show the Arnault family’s power. We’ve kept a low profile for far too long. They’ve mistaken a sleeping dragon for something that can be overpowered by a snake dressed as one. Mobilize every resource we have, our political reach, our influence in the government, and let’s see just how far this so-called mastermind can go against us."

Though seated, his presence filled the room, his years of experience and authority radiating like a force field. His words left no room for doubt.

Alexandre’s father nodded in agreement before excusing himself to make a few urgent calls. What Alexandre didn’t realize was that, behind the scenes, his entire family had already sprung into action. His father, who rarely revealed the full extent of his influence, had activated hidden connections, and with just a few calls, the tide began to shift dramatically. The pace of everything began to accelerate.

Alexandre raised an eyebrow, slightly impressed by how quickly his father had mobilized their influence, and judging by the ripple effect, people were now clearly scared out of their wits.

After finishing his call, Alexandre headed over to where Xavier and the others were. Xavier glanced at him but said nothing, his expression unreadable. Choosing not to be petty, Alexandre got straight to the point.

"I contacted my family and a few other trusted connections to ensure we track down the mastermind and to stop anyone from bribing officials or brushing this off as a simple car malfunction."

At that, Xavier’s tense shoulders finally relaxed. He nodded, a rare sign of appreciation directed at Alexandre. The truth was, even Xavier hadn’t been entirely sure which direction the investigation would take. Someone bold enough to target Hera in a major public event likely had ties to a powerful family, possibly even one based in Paris.

Xavier had been banking on the hope that this would qualify as an international case, allowing their government to step in with a joint investigation. Dave was already working toward that, planning to dispatch one of their top investigators. But even that came with risks; if the perpetrators moved fast enough to tamper with or destroy the key evidence, the trail could go cold before the investigation even began.

That was the pressure weighing on Xavier’s mind until now.

Alexandre’s involvement shifted everything. With his backing, the likelihood of evidence being buried or tampered with dropped significantly. Suddenly, Xavier felt a cautious sense of hope. For the first time, he believed this case would be solved.

And without realizing it, Xavier’s hostility toward Alexandre began to fade. All it took was one genuine act of support to soften the walls he’d built up.

"Thank you," Xavier said hoarsely.

But Alexandre simply shook his head. "I’m just doing what I should. No need to thank me." He patted Xavier’s shoulder, a quiet gesture of support meant to steady him and ease his worry.

Even Athena, who had been silent the entire time, felt a small sense of relief wash over her. But it was fleeting. Her mind was still rattled by the near-death experience, and the thought of Hera dying crept back in, unshakable and chilling.

That had been Hera’s original fate, after all.

Athena didn’t know if what happened was the world’s way of realigning fate, or if Hera’s new role as the female lead had simply drawn the storm toward her. In stories like these, drama and danger always follow the female lead, hunting her until the plot is fulfilled.

But everything had changed... hadn’t it?

Alice was no longer the female lead. Hera had taken her place. The story’s flow had clearly shifted, except, had it really? The male leads, who were supposed to be devoted to Alice, were now bonded with Hera. That alone could mean the story wasn’t so much altered as it was reset, redirected back to its original trajectory, but with a new center.

Still, something didn’t add up.

Athena frowned. In the novel, she didn’t recall Alice ever getting into a car accident. Alice had been kidnapped, yes, but she was always rescued in time. Her life had been filled with danger, but never real consequences. Nothing like this. Nothing like what had just happened to Hera.

So why was Hera targeted so violently now?

And more unsettling than anything, why did it feel like the story was growing more unpredictable with every passing moment?

Athena was just as worried as the others. Not long after, they were finally allowed into Hera’s private room.

She was still sedated and sleeping soundly, hooked up to monitoring machines to ensure there were no hidden complications, especially in her brain. An IV drip was connected to her arm, and both her fractured leg and arm were elevated to aid blood circulation. A brace had also been placed around her neck as a precaution.

Hera looked like a wreck. A deep purplish bruise marred her cheek, and her lips were split and swollen.

Xavier rushed to her side, reaching out as if to touch her face, but his hand trembled and froze mid-air, paralyzed by the sight of her in such a fragile state.

Just last night, and even this morning, Hera had been so full of life, brimming with energy and her usual spark. Xavier had never imagined how quickly everything could change in a single moment.
