The Red Dragon Just Wants To Do As It Pleases -
Chapter 56 - 55: Giant Stride
Chapter 56: Chapter 55: Giant Stride
Witnessing the plan to capture—no, to rescue—the wild hatchlings being put on hold and then brought up again, the High Elf prisoners of war must have felt the most complicated emotions.
After all, strictly speaking, they were just the Red Dragon’s prisoners of war and slaves. Under ordinary circumstances, they would probably remain slaves forever.
Therefore, there was no way their captor would take them back to the New Continent; otherwise, they would seize any chance to escape the moment they were out of sight.
As expected, no matter how much wealth David amassed on the New Continent from trading Alchemy Potions, it had nothing to do with them.
But if more young dragons continued to settle there, the situation would be completely different.
After all, that Drow named Kraidian would be too busy tending to adult dragons to care for so many hatchlings, wouldn’t he?
As long as we have a chance to get involved in feeding the dragons, we can pour a little more ’affection’ into them while the hatchlings are still young. If we can make them feel a mother’s love, the day we turn our fate around will be just around the corner! Perhaps we could even persuade the young dragons to fly back to the New Continent with us, thereby becoming glorious True Dragon Knights and enjoying personal commendation from the Elf King!
As for the difficulty of implementation, comparable to stealing a J-20 fighter jet from Blue Star and bringing it back to the Eagle Empire... well, we’re ready to give it a try, even though we’ve never been in close contact with a True Dragon. After all, we have hundreds of years of experience as Elves! If it really comes down to it, sacrificing a bit of charm isn’t unacceptable, is it? Isn’t it said that dragons possess an aesthetic that transcends all races? And our High Elven beauty is universally acknowledged as top-notch throughout the Continent. When the time comes, all we’d need to do is flaunt a little charm, and handling those unsuspecting hatchlings would be easy.
But just as these High Elves began to indulge in their fantasies, thanks to David’s impulsive notions, the always calm Silver Dragon, Tania, doused them all in cold water.
"But David, brother," she said, "the Full Moon Period has just started not long ago, and those hatchlings have all gone back to their nests to sleep."
If they waited until the Waning Moon Period to act, they would probably miss the chance to make a fortune from the Century Aroma flowering season on the New Continent.
"That’s true. Happiness came so suddenly, I forgot about that," David slapped his head and said belatedly.
It wasn’t just him. Everyone present, except for the always calm and independent-thinking Tania, had their thoughts inadvertently led by the metaphorical pie he’d drawn. It was as if they had been blinded by unexpected wealth and had become impulsive and rash.
Greed
David glanced at this entry that had popped up out of nowhere. He kept his wits about him but had no intention of containing his increasingly surging desires, and blurted out, "It’s no big deal. This time we’ll just go straight to a young Dragon Mother’s nest and snatch all the hatchlings from it in one fell swoop."
"..." Even Tania was bamboozled by David’s sheer audacity and greedy plan.
Before Tania, whose mind was still rebooting from the overload, could begin to dissuade him, David was already lost in his fantasies.
"All we have to do is find a way to lure the Dragon Mother away. By the time she realizes, ’Eh, where are my hatchlings?’ she’ll just go about her business, eating and sleeping. Afterwards, perhaps that Dragon Mother will even thank us, and the Chromatic Dragon Queen, for appreciating the difficulties of her being a new mother."
"..." Tania felt his reasoning was so sound that she couldn’t find a way to refute it.
The most important role was luring the Dragon Mother away and escaping unharmed. Given David’s flight speed, which could give a Dragon Mother an aneurysm on the spot, there weren’t many dragons that could catch up with him.
Little did she know, David had long since abandoned that flight system, which might have stained his reputation, and had no intention at all of being the bait himself.
Seizing the opportunity, the Drow whispered a suggestion, "Master’s plan is indeed feasible. Based on my experience stealing Dragon Eggs in the Old Continent for the past five years, unless you’re unlucky and bump into a Dragon Mother returning to her nest, there’s hardly any chance of being chased out by her. Even if there’s an accident, with your flying speed, Master, it’s entirely possible for you and Princess Tania to escape safely."
"Then it’s settled. I’ll go check on how the two new dragons are settling in. When I return, I want to see everything prepared," David waved his tail.
"As you command."
David immediately rose from the somewhat empty Dragon Nest and took to the air, leaving behind the Drow who awaited orders and a group of disheveled High Elf prisoners of war.
They wanted to provoke a dragon, but damn it, they never said they wanted to directly provoke a young mother dragon!
This was too big a leap!
It had already gone beyond the point of just risking their necks. It was more like one wrong step and the whole venture would come crashing down, with them as collateral damage!
And if something really went wrong...
Their master would be the chicken that could fly away.
They would be the eggs, smashed on the ground!
「...」
David, of course, couldn’t care less about what those Elf prisoners of war were thinking or any of their damn underhanded schemes.
At this moment, he only felt an unprecedented sense of freedom.
It was an indescribable joy, the feeling of finally being in control of his own draconic life.
Since his initial arrival as a transmigrator and his encounter with the Drow, he had overcome the survival crisis of his hatchling years and dealt with threats from the High Elves. He had gained a kind and considerate Silver Dragon sister, received recognition and protection from his Dragon Mother, and now found an industry that, while somewhat risky, could bring in a huge fortune. His future couldn’t look brighter.
How should I describe this feeling? It’s probably like a young man fresh out of college who runs into a scam agent. He finally breaks free, only to end up a drifter in a foreign land for five years before getting back on his feet. Then, he encounters a crime syndicate wanting to trick him into telephone fraud. Through sheer brute luck and a Bruce Lee-like spirit, he inadvertently saves a damsel in distress. This damsel then claims to be his long-lost sister and convinces him to acknowledge their mother. He’s then stunned to discover that his mom is not only a billionaire but also incredibly imposing in stature. She might even have been a former gang member, a follower of some neighboring big shot.
It’s just freaking absurd.
But undeniably, he was ecstatic.
At this moment, he just wanted to roar to the heavens and ask, who else could compare?!
Yes, David, after enduring countless hardships, could finally declare with a loud voice that he had made it!
So what if he’s provoking a young mother dragon? In a month’s time, he’s even planning to smuggle weapons across the sea to the Elves’ territory and make a killing! After all, a horse doesn’t get fat without night grazing, and a dragon doesn’t get rich without a windfall! As long as he can keep his slightly greedy Dragon Mother well-fed, he, David, will be able to fly high and unopposed between the two continents.
The only slight regret is that his mom is indeed too fierce. The eruption of that super volcano was almost equivalent to detonating an entire nuclear arsenal directly in the Arctic Ocean of his former home, Blue Star. This vigorous move not only stunned a series of powers but also brought about a nuclear winter. No one knew how many years it would last, and the global situation took a sudden, drastic turn. If not handled well, it could all devolve into a complete mess again.
"Ah, if only we could avoid war and everyone could just sit down peacefully to make money together, how nice would that be?"
As soon as he landed, David let out a sentiment that was completely out of character for a Red Dragon.
"So that’s what you were planning! You brought me back just to fight for you? This isn’t quite what we agreed on before," a feisty voice came through.
Before David could deny it, the newly joined female Red Dragon continued, "But I don’t mind fighting for you."
"You’ve got to pay."
