Chapter 39: Chapter 39 - Don’t take yourself for granted

Aadhya’s POV -

We were about to enter Ryan’s house when he stopped suddenly, and I bumped into him.

"Owww", I rubbed my nose and glared at his back. "Are you planning to make me look like a Voldemort, Ryan" I shouted at him, and he turned towards me with an annoyed expression, making me glare at him harder.

"No, I like Bellatrix more" I would be lying if I said that I was not surprised, but before I teased him, he put his hand on my mouth. "I stopped because I can smell your saviours from inside, and seriously I am not in the mood to be a part of another drama," he said tiredly. I rolled my eyes, walked towards the door, and smelled the scent of gramma, Layla, matt, Mia, and Ellon. {woah, he is right.}

"You should go first, or they will think that I have killed and eaten you" I scrunch my nose at his statement.

"Eww... why will you eat me? and how in this hell did they know I messed up a few things today?" I asked him, and he rolled his eyes.

"On the very first note, you should have asked ’why would I kill you?’ and not ’why will I eat you?’’’ he pointed, and I rolled my eyes "and for answering your next question, do you seriously think that no one witnessed your action sequence in the office".. {well, I think he does have a point.}

"I really don’t want to be crushed by Layla again", I groaned, and he simply shrugged.

"Go for it, woman. I am looking like a fool standing in front of my house and waiting for you to enter first, only because I don’t want to face questionable and scared glances from your friends and gramma," he added, and I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Don’t forget that my friends are the ones who help you to run this pack ’alpha king’," I mocked him, and he raised his hands in surrender.

"Why do I even try to say something when I clearly know that you already have a befitting reply" an involuntary smile came on my face on this... {well, you seriously should think about this alpha king}

I patted his shoulder. "It’s alright, Ryan, I knew I was awesome" I turned and finally opened the door.

As soon as I entered the house, every head turned toward me, and Layla looked at me as if I were a ghost. Sometimes I seriously question my ability to endure Layla’s drama. I was not even finished mentally patting my back when I was engulfed in a warm hug... {hugs}... and gramma and Layla nearly choked me to death... {how can gramma be so powerful in this age?}

"How can you be so dumb, addy? ".. {wait... she is using the wrong dialogues.}

"Oh my god, thank you, moon goddess, but can’t you have blessed her with a little brain".. {seriously, gramma, you too}

"This is not the mistake of moon goddess gramma. Addy is always clumsy when she is not in a brooding or serious mood".. {wait... when did they team up against me?}

"I think I have to find and cast some strong spell on her, or one day some wolf will surely rip her apart."

"I will help you."

"Awww.. thank you, kiddo"... {that’s it}

"Guys, I am not disturbing you or anything, but I can hear you both very clearly", I complained grumpily, but they ignored me and finally removed their arms from me.

"Oh Ryan, thank goodness. I always knew you were a gentleman... grumpy and arrogant but still a gentleman. Thank you for not hurting or killing her"... and with that simple sentence, all my previous annoyance died in a second... {I like her sass} .... on gramma’s comment, he just rolled his eyes while others looked extremely shocked at his reaction.

"I am glad that you think of me as a gentleman", he commented sarcastically and walked towards the kitchen.

"Well, that’s strange," Layla said, but before she said anything else, Matt came near me with a stern expression.

"Boys told me that you were hurt" ... {those ’boys’ should learn to shut their mouths} ... his tone is blank, and no matter how much he keeps his face void of any emotions, I know that he is mad at me.

"You already knew everything, Matt", I stated, and he gritted his teeth.

"Why do you have to put your life in danger every time?’’ His voice is rising word by word. "Do you think you are a superhero or what?"

I put my hands on his shoulder. "I can expl.." but before I explained, he jerked my hands from his shoulders and took a step backwards. {oh.. ohh}

"You cannot, Aadhya. You cannot"... {damn, he used my full name}... "If you are so eager to die, then tell me I will finish you off. You don’t have to do your stupid stunts and make us worry for your well-being every time" I had never seen matt like this, not even the time when the blue moon was attacked.. {well, you never talked with anyone when you faced another attack} ... I shut my mouth and turned my gaze down because I knew that I couldn’t argue with him. "Why can’t you understand?" his tone changed from blank to that of helplessness. "Why can’t you understand that except my mom, you guys are the only family I have?" I never thought like this.

I already knew that Layla and Matt cared for me, and they are the ones whom I call my family, but I never thought that I also have so much importance in their lives... {because they already have families} ... After they got their mates, I expected they would slowly get busy in their lives, but now I think my assumptions are wrong. I was so overwhelmed that I couldn’t even say anything.

Mia came to rescue me from this uneasy situation and hugged Matt from behind. It’s not that I don’t want to say something or tightly hug Matt, but I am kind of finding the right words to say to him, but it is becoming so hard, especially when my emotions are haywire... {I think Mia is the only person who can calm him right now. I should let her tackle the situation.}

"I think you all have seen that I have not killed her, and she is still alive, so I would like it if both my beta and gamma pair should go back to their works rather than wasting their time here", we were rudely interrupted by Ryan... {now, that’s not right} ... I was about to give him a befitting reply when Matt stormed out of the house while holding Mia’s hand tightly.

"Council wants to talk with you, alpha," Layla said in a blank voice, but I already knew that she was pissed off now... {on Ryan or on me, I don’t know, but she is surely pissed off.}

"What did they want to talk about?" I don’t know if he can feel Layla’s emotions or not, but he is behaving normally... alpha king type of normally... and it really pissed me off. He should have been a little soft.

"About you choosing a chosen mate" Layla’s words caught my interest, but Ryan took a deep tiring breath.

"I will handle them. Anything else?" he asked Layla, and she shook her head.

"No alpha, I should get going now," she said and stormed out of the house.

"Did you have something important to say, Ellon?" he asked Ellon, who had been silently observing everything till now.

"I wanted to have a word with Aadhya if you don’t mind, alpha" this shocked me because this is the first time any of them have talked with Ryan so openly... at least in front of me.

I looked at Ryan to plead him not to snap or be rude to Ellon, but he simply nodded towards Ellon, "make it quick, we have a lot of work to catch up, and I think your mate also needs you to calm her anger a little" he added and walked towards his office. "Aadhya, I want you in the office within fifteen minutes, and it will be good if you will change into your clothes and please, no heels this time " I can’t see his expression as he is walking towards his office, but I clearly knew that bastard is mocking me...

"Bastard", I muttered under my breath.

"I heard it" we heard Ryan’s voice, and after it, his office door closed with a thud.

"Damn, I literally want to claw his handsome face right now", I muttered, but when I heard Ellon’s chuckle, my whole attention shifted to him "sorry for disrespecting your alpha in front of you, Ellon, but he is extremely annoying sometimes."

"Well, I am not denying this, but right now, I wanted to talk about something very serious" his expression changed to that of serious, and I mentally prepared myself for another talk.

"Doctors have given up on matt’s mom"... {well, that’s a piece of news}... she was never very fond of me like blacks, but still, she didn’t question matt’s choice of friends. "From your expressions, I am guessing that he didn’t tell you anything about it" I nodded, and he continued ", and about Layla", an involuntary smile came on his face only by mentioning her name. "Well, we have not told her about your injury, so she was mad at all of us along with you, and I really have to do something so that she didn’t kick me out of the room tonight," he said the last part irritatingly, and I chuckled.

"I don’t know if I am the right person to say this or not, Aadhya, but I wanted you to know that we are not just your friends, at least not Layla and matt. Don’t take yourself for granted, Aadhya. Maybe you don’t value your life much, but if something happens to you, it will surely affect the people connected with you" I don’t know what to say on this. "There is no need to tell me anything. I am good at reading people’s expressions, or so I like to think like that, but we all will be grateful if you will choose to save your life instead of someone else’s if you will face a similar type of situation again or maybe some safer way to save someone" I nodded, and he gave me a gentle smile.

Before any of us said anything, the main door opened with a bang, and Mia and Matt came running inside. "Oh my, you gave me a heart attack..." gramma shouted, but they looked alarmed, so I kept my mouth shut.

"Mia, cover Shira. Where is alpha?" Matt asked us in an emergency.

"In his office" Ellon sprinted towards the office, and we followed him.

"Don’t tell me we are again heading towards another action sequence," I told no one in particular while I took the silver-coated gun from my calf in my right hand while a silver knife in another. I really need another gun for such circumstances.

"Hide behind me, Aadhya" this was Matt’s order, and from his tone, I knew that he was not going to take my crap, "but don’t lower your weapon..." Well, at least he believes that I can fight.

Ellon turned the knob, but the door didn’t budge. He looked at Matt, and both of them nodded toward each other. They took a few steps backwards and launched themselves at the door at full speed. The metallic stench of blood filled my nostrils as soon as the door broke. {Is Ryan alright?} ... The grip on my weapons loosened a bit, but I shook my head... {get a hold, Aadhya, he is The Alpha King for a reason...}.

They entered the office, and I entered behind them. We all stopped dead in our tracks as soon as we saw the scene. I heard shuffling and a few gasps behind me, but I could not react to anything.
