Chapter 35: Chapter 35 - The ’Blunder’

FLASHBACK-

"Are you sure I am looking fine?" I asked Ryan one more time to feel a little more confident in the clothes I borrowed from Layla. It’s not like I am showing skin or something, as this is a normal top and pants, but still, I am a little nervous about all this.

"You are looking alright, Aadhya. No need to think much and I don’t think there is any need to look extremely beautiful on your very first day. You are already looking more beautiful than my liking," he added the last part a little grumpily... {as if his liking is important for me, or is it?}

I wanted to add some very sarcastic remarks on this because he is looking drop-dead gorgeous in his body-fitted navy blue colour suit, white shirt, and tie... and his hair is tied in a bun. The only thing that I am not getting attracted to in his appearance is his cologne. It’s not because that was not good, but in comparison to his actual scent, no scent is just not up to the mark.

"I am not trying to look beautiful. I just wanted to look presentable. The job that I have done till now only focused on my work and not my clothes," I explained and sat at the dining table while gramma was listening to our talks without saying anything, no matter how rude it would sound...I am glad that she is not saying anything.

"There is no need to think that much, Aadhya. You will do fine," he said softly, and I took a deep breath.

"I just hope that I don’t make a fool of myself" we finished our breakfast in silence and finally went towards the car.

"You will be driving", he ordered ... {bossy much} ... and extended the key towards me. "I have already sent you the location," he said and walked towards the passenger seat. I took a deep breath, entered the car, and started driving while he was busy doing something. When we reached ’knights’, I tried my best to focus on the road instead of the huge building. After parking the car in the underground parking, we exited the vehicle, and he told me to follow him. We walked towards the elevator, where a few people were waiting. They greeted him, and he replied with a curt nod but then walked towards a separate elevator. We took that one... {I assume that this is his ’personal’ elevators}. When we reached floor no. 21, we exited the elevator and met with a cute-looking werewolf.

"Good morning, alpha", he greeted Ryan.

"Good morning, Garry. Is everything done for today?" he stopped and asked him.

"Yes, Alpha, everything is arranged for your new assistant, I have made a blueprint, and he just has to go through it once. I have already set the meetings and your schedule for the next two days, so I don’t think there will be any problem with that," he explained in one breath, and Ryan nodded.

"Good" then he turned towards me and then looked at Garry. "Garry, meet Aadhya, my new assistant."

"Hello", I greeted him, and he was so shocked that he was unable to react to anything.

"But you are a girl," he said in an accusing tone, and I raised an eyebrow at him. As soon as he understood what he said, he looked at Alpha with wide eyes "sorry, alpha, that..." but before he said anything else, Ryan raised his hand, and Garry turned his gaze downwards.

"I want both of you in my office within ten minutes... with all the files that I have asked earlier from you, Garry," he said and walked away.

"Sorry," he said to me, and I passed him a smile. "I will introduce myself later as we have to report to alph.." he coughed a little "we have to report to sir within eight minutes now," he said while looking at his watch. "Just go straight, take a left turn and wait for me there. I will be there in five minutes," he said and ran away in the opposite direction. I nodded and took a deep breath but as soon as I took the first step, I slipped and fell on my butt.... {what a great start, dude.}. I got up slowly and looked around. Thankfully no one was there to see me. I looked at the floor and instantly regretted the decision to wear those heels... {why do they have to choose such slippery flooring in corporate buildings?}. I slowly took cautious steps and reached in front of a massive door. As soon as I reached there, I took a calming breath and waited for Garry to come. He came exactly after a minute with a few files in his hand.

He knocked on the door, and when we heard a faint ’come in,’ we entered his office. His office is the typical CEO’s office which is screaming luxury, and it also has that classic huge glass wall that gives the perfect view of the whole city.

"Yes, Mr. Wilson, sure ... yes," he said and cut the call. He gestured at Garry for files, and I again did that dread walk towards the desk, trying my best not to fall and make a fool of myself. I was concentrating so hard on walking there without falling that I did not notice both of the guys looking at me as if I had gone mad. Garry is looking at me in concern while Ryan is trying hard to control his laughter. {jerk...}

"Sit down, guys," Ryan said with neutral expressions, and we sat on our respective chairs. "How many meetings do we have today?" he asked, taking a file from the desk.

"One, with Mr. Wilson alp.." he again coughed and completed his sentence ", sir."

"Aadhya already knows about werewolves," Ryan said to him while his eyes were still trained on the file in front.

"Sure, alpha," Garry told him, but I could still see the doubt in his eyes "only one meeting is scheduled for today at 3 pm with Mr Wilson while Ms. Lewis again called today to invite you for business dinner", he added, and Ryan nodded while his eyes are still trained on the file that is in his hand "I again rejected the offer" Ryan again nodded on this.

"Fine, hand over everything to Aadhya and make her understand the work that she will be doing from now onwards" he signed the file and gave it to Garry. "I have seen the contract that we have signed with Ms. Carter" then he took a list from the side cabinet, put it in the file, and extended the file towards Garry "send that list to matt and tell him to send the said candidates at the address mentioned below the list," he told the last part specifically to me, and I nodded "that’s all for now. I want both of you to accompany me in the meeting today" both of us nodded and stood from our chairs.

We walked out of the office, and I again struggled to get accustomed to walking in these heels on this slippery floor without falling on my butt. As soon as we exited the office, I took a deep breath.

"No need to be intimidated by him. I knew that he looked a little... umm... scary, but he is a very good person," Garry told me with a soft smile. I just nodded without saying anything to him "so this is your cabin" he pointed towards the right, where I saw a door that I had initially ignored.

He opened the door and walked inside, and I followed him "no need to think about other employees because", he stopped and raised his index finger, "one, everyone is extremely scared of alpha" then he raised his middle finger "two, alpha doesn’t like a lot of people around him, especially girls who try to throw themselves on him" he said this a little sternly... {yeah, I had already seen that}

"Three, every department has a head, so generally, heads come on this floor to give weekly reports to the assistant and once a month, we have a meeting of all the heads with Alpha. For that, you have to work your ass off because you will need everything from the weekly reports that are reported to you by the heads of the departments, so best of luck with that" he stopped and continued while raising his pinky finger "four, I am adding this for your safety, don’t try to do anything stupid here. Alpha Ryan is a good man, but you can’t ignore the fact that he is the werewolf king" I nodded at this, and he dropped his hand to the side and smiled at me "let’s start your training", he said, and though I am far from feeling confident, I still smiled confidently at him.

After three hours, I understood that Ryan was telling the truth when he said that this would be a challenging job. When I was a warrior, my utmost priority was to guard the area that was allotted to me but here, not only do I have to keep doing the work continuously but also with utmost sincerity... well, that’s alright, but how will I be able to sit whole day in this room without even a little scent of woods around me while continuously looking at this stupid computer screen.

"Any doubts," Garry asked me, and I rubbed my temples.

"I am having doubts about me now" as soon as I said this, he chuckled.

"You will be fine, Aadhya," he said to me softly.

"How long have you been working here?" I asked him.

"About a year and a half. I know that the workload is a little extreme," I scoffed at that, "but the salary is worth it. I would never have thought about leaving this job, but I am 23 now and still haven’t found my mate" I can see the longing in his eyes when he said this.

"Don’t tell me that you are planning to go all around the world to find your mate?" I said to him, and he smiled.

"Mates are worth doing everything," he said dreamily.

"And what about your family?" I can’t help but ask him about them.

"Oh, they are perfectly fine about that. My mom and dad are happy with each other, and both my siblings have already found their mates," he explained, and I nodded "now, enough of those personal talks, you can ask me something about the office if you want to know."

"Do humans also work here?" I asked him, and he nodded.

"Yeah, we have a huge workforce of humans, but you don’t have to be scared of werewolves here. I never came across a single case when a werewolf lost his shit in this office. Alpha is extremely strict about the safety of his employees, and no werewolf wants to make him mad" he said this with an assuring look as if telling me that I need not worry about my safety. I was about to say to him that I was not new in the werewolf world, but at that exact time, my mobile vibrated in my pocket... Matt is calling me...

"I need to take this, Garry. Excuse me," I told him, and he nodded. I answered the call and put the cell on my ear.

"What the hell are you doing at knights, addy?" he screamed on the cell, and I am sure that Garry is undoubtedly able to hear all this without even his werewolf hearing. I gave an awkward smile to him and went a little away from where he was sitting.

"Lower your tone, matt. I am in the office," I told him.

"That’s exactly what I am saying. What the hell are you doing at knights? Did you say something to Alpha that triggered him? And why is your suitcase not in your hostel room? Have I not told you to watch your mouth when you are talking to Alpha? Damn girl, when will you start to listen to me? Now tell me, where are you exactly? I am coming there," he said all this in a few breaths.

"Don’t fucking behave like a pregnant woman, matt", I snapped at him, and finally, he shut his mouth. "We will talk after I come back from work... ok," I said and waited for his reply. Finally, after a few seconds, he hummed, and I could already imagine him pouting like a five-year-old who was denied eating his favorite chocolate by his mommy, "and I am fine, no need to worry," I added and cut the call. I knew Garry had heard all this, but he didn’t question me, which I appreciated much.

At 2:55 pm, we went towards Ryan’s office, and then we all went towards the conference hall on the 20th floor for the meeting. Mr. Wilson is a rich old man who is a scientist... {or something like that} ... and is currently in great need of security... {his words, not mine.} ... I don’t have much work to do in the meeting but to analyse everything. I knew that I should not judge people, but I couldn’t help myself from getting an uneasy feeling from that old man.

"Listen, young lad, let’s stop discussing all this shit" suddenly, his tone changed into a harsher one, and I don’t know why but I wanted to snap this oldie right then... "I have been taking security services from your company since your father was the head of this company, and I always chose the men I wanted by myself. I had neither changed my terms when your father gave me the same excuse, nor I am doing this now," he said to Ryan arrogantly, and I could feel the tension building in the conference room.

"Sorry, Mr. Wilson, but in this case, I don’t think we will be able to provide our services to you. I have great pride in my employees, and we are selling security services to our clients and not lending our employees according to different clients’ wishes," Ryan told him calmly and stood from his chair.

"You are a businessman, Ryan. If you want knights to remain at the top, you need to behave like a businessman" Mr. Wilson also stood from his chair, and from his expressions, I already knew that Ryan had hurt his ego.

"I will keep that in mind," Ryan said to him politely, but I could see a slight shade of green in his black eyes. "Garry will accompany you to the elevators," he said, looking at Garry, who had several files in his hands. "Aadhya will take care of the files," he said, and Garry passed those files to me.

Ryan exited the conference room, and I walked behind him with the files in my hand... {warning for girls - don’t try to walk fast in heels when you have something in your hands and especially when you are walking on the slippery floor of the office... you will make a great fool of yours...} I was fully concentrating on walking with Ryan without tripping over and still balancing the files when I heard a sudden gasp, and my eyes widened as a girl just ran into me while holding a cup of coffee.

Everything happened in slow motion. The files that I was clutching fell to the ground while I lost my balance. I was about to fall when I grabbed whatever came in my hand to stop myself from falling, but still, I fell on my butt. I groaned in pain, but when I heard many sudden gasps, I looked around and found everyone looking in an exact direction with a horrifying look. I also turned my gaze, and everything seemed to stop around me.

Ryan is standing there while coffee is dripping from his clothes and the coffee cup is stuck on his bun... {exactly looking like a joker cap}... while all the buttons of his shirt are open, allowing everyone to see the view of droplets of coffee slipping on his toned body from his hard chest to the abs slowly moving towards v line... {stop it}... my mind snapped at me and as soon as I understood what I have done I also gasped in horror... {at least his tie is still in its place} ... I am doomed...

So guys, if you are wondering what the shit has happened just now, let me clear it... remember the time when I grabbed something to stable me, well that thing was actually Ryan’s shirt, and when I was feeling sorry for my butt, I actually plucked all the buttons of his shirt, which is the reason why all the people are now able to see those sexy abs of Mr. Alpha King for a reason.

"You should think about hiring your employees before taking pride in them, kid", I heard the voice of Mr. Wilson, who smirked at Ryan and then went towards the elevators. After that, Ryan didn’t say anything. Hell, he didn’t even look at me and directly went away. Everyone was silent around me. I quickly collected the files and ran into the washroom, where I am now cursing my and Layla’s decision to wear those demon heels on the first day of my work.
