Chapter 29: Chapter 29 - Love story

I cursed under my breath, and my eyes landed on the source of that squeaky shriek. A man is standing there with a shocked expression on his face. I stood from the ground and grumpily said sorry to him. I was about to cross him when he came and stood before me. I looked at him and knew he was also a werewolf by his build and smell. I cocked an eyebrow towards him, and an arrogant smirk came on his lips.

"If I knew that nowadays beautiful girls have started falling from trees instead of fruits, then I would have built a treehouse on every tree of the crescent moon pack," he said while smirking and checking me out. I looked at him dumbfounded, and he looked at me as if expecting some reply... {Do I need to reply?} ... I asked myself and finally decided to ignore him and walk away. I was about to cross him when he grabbed my wrist, and by instinct, I flipped his hand, took hold of his wrist, and twisted it around his back while I put my left hand on his shoulder and kicked his legs, and he fell on the ground on his knees.

"When a person doesn’t give reply to your stupid thoughts, it means that she is not interested in you," I said to him in a calm tone, but when he tried to wriggle, I twisted his wrist more... not enough to break the bone but enough to cause him pain. He groaned and cursed in pain. {still, I need to be careful. When I broke Ethan’s wrist, hurting him that bad was again not my intention}.

"Next time, be cautious because I don’t think every girl will be decent enough not to beat you up in a pulp... understand," I asked him intimidatingly. When he did not say anything, I put more pressure on his wrist, and finally, he said ’yes’ with gritted teeth. "Good boy" I patted his shoulder and left his wrist. I went in front of him and gave him a hand. He was seething in anger, but as soon as I gave him my hand, he got confused "get up, dude, I don’t have any personal grudge against you" he took my hand in confusion and got up from his place. "I never fight to hurt someone, but I didn’t entertain unexpected and unwanted touch," I explained to him and started walking towards Alpha’s place. After a few minutes, he came running behind me.

"I am, brooks," he said, and I raised an eyebrow at him, "I thought you wanted to know the name of the person whom you manhandled a few seconds ago," he said, and I kept walking, "So you the new human that joined our pack," he said, and this time I hummed "I was thinking why alpha let a human enter the royal pack, but if a human can single-handedly drop a werewolf on his knees then I have to say that this was a smart decision" he complimented, but I nodded and kept walking towards the alpha house. He didn’t say anything but walked beside me till we reached the Alpha’s house.

When we reached there, I turned towards him, gave him a last glance, walked towards the main door, and pressed the doorbell. To my surprise, Matt opened the door, and as soon as he looked at me, he smiled widely and encircled his arms around me.

"Hey, chubby, I was thinking of coming to your room, but alpha called us for the meeting," he said, taking me in and closing the door.

"Sorry I disturbed in between," I said to him, and he rolled his eyes.

"Save these words for the Alpha. I am your Matty, and you can’t disturb me," he said, and both of us went towards his study. Alpha was sitting on his chair with his usual stern expression while Ellon and Lily were sitting in front of him.

"Sorry to disturb you in between, alpha," I said to him, and he nodded. "I think I should wait outside," I said to him, and he again nodded.

Matt took a deep breath and closed the door behind me. At first, I strained my ears to hear anything they were discussing inside, but nothing helped... {Did I seriously think that he would not make his office soundproof?} ... I went towards the sofa, slumped on it, and started looking around at the luxurious things that were decorating the house... {these things are indeed looking very costly}. I was there for almost an hour, but when I felt that their meeting was nowhere to get over soon. I messaged Matt that I was going back as Dee was alone in the room and exited the Alpha’s place. I went towards the nearest restaurant, took our lunch, and walked back into the room. I found Dee still sitting on the bed with his parents’ photograph in his hand. When he saw me, he smiled widely.

"Did you tell them everything?" I asked him, and he nodded.

"I really felt good, addy. It would be great if they could reply, but it’s alright. At least they know now what I am doing," he said, making me smile instantly.

"Great, let’s eat our lunch now. After that, we will go to your hostel, and then you have to do your work there on your own," I told him and served the mac and cheese for both of us. We ate our food in silence as today Dee was not in the mood to blabber. After we finished our lunch, I went into the kitchen to do the dishes while Dee took my mobile to play games. Someone knocked on the door, and Dee went for it.

"Hello, alpha," I heard his voice, and instantly I remembered all the debates I had a few hours ago on the tree. I didn’t say anything and tried to ignore that he is in our room right now... {stay away from him, Aadhya. If the mate bond will strengthen between us, then there is no way I could suffer another rejection} ... I shuddered after hearing my conscience, but I knew that it is the truth. When the dishes were done, I went into the room, and my eyes got locked with Alpha’s, but I quickly removed the gaze from him.

"I have done the packing, alpha," Dee told him proudly, and Alpha patted his shoulder.

"Good champ, we should go now," he said and looked at me, but I turned and took Dee’s bags in my hands. He came near me, but before I stepped backward, he took both the bags from my hands and walked out of the room. I took a deep breath and took Dee’s hands in mine. I locked the door behind me and walked downstairs with dee. Alpha was already waiting for us in his car, so we took our seats, and he started driving towards the school.

As we reached there, I found that everything was already arranged for dee. After a long hug and a slightly nervous laugh towards me, Dee went with the warden, who took his bags with him. When Dee was going, I felt a sudden urge to stop him and plead to Alpha to let him stay with me and to tell him that I would make sure that everything remained according to his wishes, but I stopped myself from doing any stupidity. I kept looking at Dee’s tiny figure, but then he turned, and I took a shaky breath... {What will I do without him?}

"Stay safe, dee," I muttered and turned towards Alpha. "I think I will go back on my own alpha and thank you for doing all these things for dee," I told him and was about to turn towards the exit when he stopped me.

"You need to talk about something before," he said and came towards me. That’s when I remembered that I needed to earn a living "let’s walk towards my car," he said, and I nodded, and we started walking.

"Yeah," I said and rubbed the back of my neck awkwardly. "Actually, I never asked you about the fees. Can I get a brochure or something?" he looked at me and scrunched his brows.

"I have admitted him here on my expenses, Aadhya, and there is no need to worry about his fees," he said blankly as if he knew I was going to argue with him.

I smiled at him, which caught him off guard "that was very sweet of you, alpha, but I would like to pay Dee’s expenses on my own, at least until I am alive" he opened his mouth to say something, but I cut him off "I really wanted to do this. It makes me feel happy," I told him softly, but he nodded and didn’t argue this time.

"Fine, but then we have to find a job for you," he said while shocking me "don’t look at me like that... if you are planning to pay his fee and your expenses, then you surely need to have a job."

I nodded happily and looked at him. "Yeah, I was thinking about this. Is there any job that I can do in your pack?" I asked him expectantly.

"Well yeah, there are plenty, you can try in our company ’KNIGHTS’ as we give security services to humans also and I believe that you can take humans down very easily," he suggested and added more, "or you can try being a warrior like you used to be in the blue moon," he said this. Still, it is clearly written on his face that he is not in favor of me doing this job. Then he continued, "or I am also looking for someone who can help in running pack’s work and handling ’KNIGHTS’ altogether" he added the last part a little hesitantly.

If he had asked me this last night when we were talking, then I would have surely liked to take the offer to help him because at that time I seriously thought that maybe I had a chance with him, but now I can’t accept it when I already have doubts "When can I give trials for the warriors?" As soon as I asked him this, his face fell, and he slid into the driver’s seat and waited for me to take a seat next to him. I also slid into the car, and without uttering a word, he started the engine.

"You can ask about these things to Mia," he said grumpily, and I nodded.

"And Alpha, I was also planning to change my weapons a little. Back in the blue moon pack, gamma Alexander helped me with it, so should I ask Mia about this," I asked him, and this caught his interest.

"What kind of weapon?" he asked me.

"Well, I want guns that are coated in silver and silver bullets within," I explained.

"Why coat your gun in silver?" he asked me.

"Because the enemy can’t touch silver," I told him, and he nodded. After a few minutes, he parked the car in front of his home. "I wanted to talk with you," he said before I exited the vehicle. I nodded nervously, and we walked into his house. I was expecting him to go to his office, but he sat on the sofa and gestured to me to sit there. I took a seat a maintaining a good distance away from him. I knew it didn’t sit well with him, but he let it go and took a deep breath.

"Don’t you have any questions about Lily?" he asked me tiredly, and I shook my head which caught him by surprise. "I think I like your questioning self-more," he said, and I smiled at him but didn’t say anything. Suddenly he got up from his place and sat just in front of me and looked right into my eyes "so, you are planning to avoid me" I shook my head but was unable to say anything to him... {I can curse Ethan, shout at him ... hell, even I broke his wrist once because I knew he deserved that, but how can I do anything like this to you when you have always been good to me till now?} ...

"Not ignoring alpha, just making the proper distance between us," I said to him timidly. Suddenly I felt him getting angry and felt intimidated by him.

"My command doesn’t affect you," he said in a statement, and I nodded... {I have already observed this in the morning} ... "Why is it so Aadhya?" he asked me, and I couldn’t help feeling helpless.

"I don’t know" I don’t know why but I started feeling like I wanted to cry... {Why is he interrogating me like that?} I took deep breaths, and finally, that lump in my throat vanished after a few deep breaths.

"Fine, then tell me why you don’t want to know about Lily?" he asked me, and I looked downwards. He took hold of my chin softly and made me look into his eyes... "What is it?"

I took a shaky breath and removed his hand from my chin gently and shifted a little away from him. "I already have many things to deal with, and I don’t want to add other things to it."

"But I think you should know about lily and.." before he completes his sentence, I put my hand on his mouth in panic.

"You can’t tell these things without informing first, Ryan," I scolded him, and he glared at me. I also narrowed my eyes at him and continued, "no need to glare at me. You can’t casually tell your love story to your mate... I don’t know what you take it as, but it is clear cruelty in my eyes" as soon as I said this his eyes became soft "now I am removing my hand from your mouth, and you will not utter a single word after that... understood" I told him and after a few seconds he nodded.

"So, I am Ryan now." As soon as I removed my hand from his mouth, he said, ignoring the threat that I had just given him seconds ago.

"I was mad that time," I said grumpily, and he chuckled a little.

"It’s surprising, but I liked that you called me Ryan" as soon as he said that I looked at him in fake shock.

"Is the big bad alpha king telling me to call him by his name?" I teased him, and he looked at me.

"But call me by name when we were alone... for now," the ’for now’ that he added indeed gave me goosebumps. "So shall I tell you about lily and me now?" he asked me, and I looked at him hesitantly.

"Don’t you think you are desperate to tell your love story?" I asked him grumpily.

"I just don’t want you to overthink things on your own. So, before you add one thing to another and make a huge deal of this situation. I think it is wise to clarify everything from my end," he explained, and I couldn’t help but feel that he was actually right.

"I think I have to hear this out," I wondered, and he nodded "fine, just don’t give me extreme details."

"I am not planning to," he added, and I took a deep breath. "Lily is the daughter of dad’s previous gamma. Her parents died while protecting the pack in the same attack when I shifted into my wolf. So, after the attack, dad took her with us. We became best friends eventually. I got the crown when I was only sixteen and became the youngest alpha king in history. She was with me in every stage of my life through thick and thin. I started falling for her, and I knew that she also had the same feelings towards me, but both of us knew very well that in the werewolf world, things don’t happen like this, so we remained friends till we turned twenty. We were not that cautious at that age. One day we went to a club and took wolfsbane and got high. Till today none of us remembered what happened that night, but both of us lost our virginity to each other that day. None of us felt bad about it because we have feelings for each other. We announced our relationship officially after that."

"Dad was mad in the beginning, he worships mates and mate bonds, but after a year, he also accepted our love. Lily was loved and respected by everyone because she was perfect in everything. We were madly in love with each other, but even after waiting for two years, she had not received the blessing of the crown from the moon goddess. Not only the pack but also the council is ready to accept her as the Luna queen, but without a crown, she can’t be with me, so the elders in the council told us about the moon goddess’s test. Sadly, the beta of the silver moon pack was lily’s mate, and she didn’t have to think twice before accepting him. I was heartbroken, but I also knew she did right."

"But then why is she here now?" I couldn’t stop myself from questioning him.

"Her mate died a year ago in an attack. She came here as dad, and I, are the only family she has. Things were

alright for a few months, and she healed slowly, but I started feeling her love for me blossoming again. So, I made the distance between us. Two months ago, I sent her with a group of royal pack warriors to explore the packs around the world, and I think they came back today," he finished, and we became silent.

"Alpha," I said softly, and he looked at me. "Am I the reason that you are not accepting her love?" As soon as I asked him, his eyes became blurry, and within a second, he stood from his place and took hold of my hand.

"We need to reach the pack borders. I think we found your grandma..."
