Chapter 24: Chapter 24 - Choice made
Alpha was about to say something, but I gestured for him not to say anything. We sat there for a few minutes in silence until I recovered from this new piece of information. "Can we believe her?" I asked no one in particular and looked at Alpha. "She tried to attack us. How can we know whether she was telling the truth or not?"
"I don’t feel that she was lying about all this. My wolf is very cautious around humans, so he is always attentive, and I believe his instincts about humans. We don’t think there is a single lie in her whole story," he concluded, and I groaned in irritation.
"I am unable to understand anything. Why would they lie about my age?" I asked myself and rubbed my temples.
"I don’t think anyone can answer your question except Shira. There is no need to waste our energies in the matter in which we can’t reach a conclusion," he said, and after a few minutes, I nodded.
"You are right" I took a deep breath and continued, "so alpha, what are you going to do in my matter?" I asked him, and he took a deep breath.
"First, I would like to advise you to join my pack. I know you are thinking of keeping your distance from your loved ones so that you can save them, but I don’t think this is going to help. If vampires are after you, you can’t run from them forever. You have to fight with them, and living here with stronger species than humans will definitely help you to get your answers and fight those vampires off." He stopped and waited for my reply, but when I didn’t say anything, he continued, "second..." he again stopped and took a few deep breaths "as you know that we are mates, I think you have every right to know everything" ... {don’t tell me something that will make me confuse even more} ...
"Being an alpha king or mate of the alpha king seems glorious and exciting from far but keeping the position itself is something that has never been easy for anyone. We have powers; we can make anyone do what we want, everyone respects us, and we can order anyone around. That all is true, but we can’t ignore the other truths. Power comes with responsibility, accountability, dangers, envy, and many things, along with self-doubt" I looked at him with full sincerity and tried to understand where he was leading this conversation.
I could feel him getting uneasy. He clenched his fists and looked at me with determination "accepting me or rejecting me is your decision, but I wanted you to understand my position. I know accepting me will make you stand in a difficult position. You will be in the spotlight, and every enemy of mine will become your enemy, while rejecting me will make you safer than that" I was shocked to hear these words from him and looked at him in disbelief, but he was not looking at me. He is looking at the globe that is on his desk and is taking deep breaths "take all the time you wanted, you can take whatever decision you wanted, but I would like if you will take your decision before my wolf get extremely attached with you."
"Right now, our bond is not that strong. I am expecting you can also feel this ...but as time will pass, we will get attached to each other, and at that time, if you will reject me, then my wolf will not be able to survive that," he said this all with so much sadness and feelings that my eyes got filled with tears, but I blinked them back instantly. We sat silently for a few minutes when I decided to break this silence.
"Well, I was not expecting that," I said awkwardly, and he turned his gaze towards me. "I was expecting you just to impose your decision on me," I said, accepted with a smile "thank you for letting me choose what I wanted, alpha," I told him sincerely, and he gave me a dazzling smile.
"You know you just thanked me for something that is not even worth thanking."
"Yes, but you are forgetting that I have already faced a similar situation" this statement made his expressions hard, "but I am curious to know something. Can I ask you a few questions?" I asked him, and he nodded with a poker face. "I heard that the council did not approve someone to be an alpha until he is not mated. Then how did they decide to make you the king when you haven’t found your mate?"
"The council does not choose Alpha kings. They are chosen by the moon goddess herself" he looked at me, and I was beyond confused, "I think I have to explain it from starting," he said, and I nodded.
"Ok, I guess you already know that Alpha, beta, delta, gamma, and omega these ranks are transferred according to their bloodline. Well, nothing like that happens for alpha kings. You can’t be the alpha king just because your father is the alpha king. I don’t know the exact time, but there was a time before when that was the same method for choosing an alpha king...... but just the reason that you were born from their blood doesn’t mean you also deserve that position. Few of the kings used their powers for malicious purposes. They were blinded by the power and thought they were above the moon goddess herself."
"I don’t know what they did, but they did something that triggered the moon goddess very hard. People say that on that day, the moon goddess herself came to earth, and no one knows what happened with that king. She ripped the power from the royal family to rule the werewolves and took this into her hands. Since then, she is the only one who decides who will be the royal king or queen or even the royal pack" this all is very hard to take in one go.
"Wait, I didn’t understand. Does it mean that if she chooses someone from another pack, then that pack will be treated as a royal pack?" I asked him in astonishment, and he nodded.
"Correct, with the moon goddess’s crown, the royalty and status of the pack changes. Crescent moon is the royal pack because she chose me as alpha king. If she will not find me worthy in the future, she will transfer my crown to someone else, and then the royalty and powers will shift from me to someone other and to the other pack" I was so stunned by this revelation that I don’t know how to react.
"That was insane," I said to him, and he nodded.
"I think that was wise. In this way, no one will target any one pack or any one person to own his powers. The Moon goddess made it very clear that if you want power, then prove your worth to her, and she will give you the crown, but if you do something stupid, then she will not think twice before stripping your powers. So, there is no need for any war, if you want to be the alpha king, do what is right, and you will be given the crown and the title," he said, and now I also think that actually, it was a sensible decision.
"What will happen if someone kills the present alpha king?" I asked him in wonder, and he chuckled.
"Are you planning to kill me?" he asked me, and I bit my lip... {I didn’t want it to sound like that}... "She will transfer the crown to someone worthy, and the one who killed the alpha king will not receive anything," he said, and I nodded.
"But you said that you have enemies. Why do you have enemies if they are not behind your crown?" I asked him.
"When we give orders, it is not always for everyone’s good. Sometimes our decisions were bad for few, so they wanted to kill the one who is the reason for their misery."
"That sucks," I said before thinking, and he laughed.
"Well, that was new. Usually, people tell me how it is awesome to be in this position" I rolled my eyes but stopped and looked at him seriously.
"If we both accept each other, does it mean I will also get a crown from the moon goddess?" I asked him in shock, and he became serious.
"That was a matter of concern, but until you accept me, there is no need to be tensed about it."
"But I deserve to know about this. If I accept you, I have the right to know what I am putting myself into," I said innocently, and he gave me a pointed look.
"I know what you are trying to do, but I am only telling you this because somewhere, I also think that it is important for you to know about this" I nodded in excitement, and he continued, "this is something that only a few people know, and I wanted it to be like this. You will not tell anyone about it, not even Ellon, Layla, Matt, Mia, or Diego ’’. {if this is something that his beta and gamma pair also don’t know, then will it be wise for me to know this.... only because I am his mate ...}
"Don’t tell me, Alpha," I said to him, and he looked at me with an emotionless face. "I don’t want to know it right now" he nodded and took a deep breath.
"About your stay. We have guest houses, I can arrange your stay there, but you have to leave it if you join our pack," he said, and I nodded.
"Is there no place I can stay permanently because I think I am already joining your pack, alpha?" I said to him, and instead of his poker face, I knew he was relieved with this decision. He raised his right hand and extended it towards me. I knew what he was going to do, but I had already made my decision, so I put my hand in his. He raised his other hand and elongated his claws. First, he made a deep cut on my palm, then on his own, and put his hand on mine.
"I, Ryan Knight, Alpha king of werewolves, accept you, Aadhya brown, as a member of the crescent moon pack" as soon as he said this, I felt a warm feeling surrounding me. After a minute, he removed his hand from mine and extended a little bottle toward me. "I took some of Aunt Amara’s healing potion with me" I smiled at him and took the potion.
"Thank you, alpha, this is going to be of great help" I applied some paste on the cut and covered the wound with my handkerchief "so Alpha, as now I am a member of this pack, I think I need some permanent place to live. Luckily I have earned money, and my parents have also left some, but still, I don’t have enough to buy a house."
"We have hostels in our pack. You can stay there" as soon as he said that, I again got confused, and once again, without irritation, he put effort into explaining things to me, "the crescent moon pack is famous for its warrior training for decades, even when I was not the alpha king, royal packs gave special significance to the crescent moon pack. They established a ’royal warrior training school’ in our pack. People trained from that school can apply to be a warrior in any pack. We receive hundreds of applications from humans for joining the school also, but this is only for werewolves, so we have to reject their applications. So, you can say if a werewolf has completed his training and have a license from the royal warrior training school, then with the help of that license, he or she will be given respect and will be treated as a warrior between other species too. We train thousands of werewolves yearly, so we have established many hostels for their stay."
"Those hostels are not only for warriors. Many people come in our pack for a temporary stay like three or four years for studies, or sometimes kids come here for alpha training like dee. I can’t include everyone in my pack, so some of the hostels are for those who came here for studies or other errands," he explained, and I looked at him in astonishment.
"Your pack must be very wealthy, alpha," I said in wonder, and he chuckled.
"Have you ever heard the name ’KNIGHTS’ " he asked me, and I thought hard.
"I heard Matt talking about this company once. If I remember correctly, it’s a security company that gives security services all over the world irrespective of their species" he nodded at this.
"Well, my family owns ’knights,’ and other than this, all the werewolves that live in hostels or get enrolled in our schools also pay fees, so yes, you can say the crescent moon is wealthy."
"Well, I have to know about the expenses that I have to bear. Only after that can I decide whether I can join the hostel or not," I said to him in doubt, and on this, a smile came on his face, but he hid it in a second.
"Matt will help you with that," he said, and I nodded, "I think we should end this discussion and have some food first," he suggested, and I stood from my chair instantly.
"Great idea, alpha. That’s the wisest thing you had suggested from the time you met me," I complimented and exited the room without waiting for him, but I heard his laughter before closing the door.
I looked around and found Matt sitting on the sofa. I smiled, walked toward Matt, and slumped beside him.
"I am hungry, Matty," I said to him, and he chuckled.
"Welcome to the crescent moon, chubby," he said, and I grinned. "Layla already went to make lunch for all of us" this made me instantly smile.
"Where is the kitchen?" I got up from the sofa, and he rolled his eyes.
"She is at her house making lunch in her kitchen. Why will she use Alpha’s kitchen?"
"Fine, then let’s go to Layla’s house," I said and tried to pull him "get up, mattyyyyy," I whined, and he chuckled.
"Alpha is also invited for lunch, chubby. I am here to invite him," he said, and I looked at him with hurtful eyes.
"Are you not going to invite me?" I said to him and looked at him pointedly, "you are the most stupid person in this world, Matt Walker. Invite me this instant, or I will kill you" I put my hands on my hips and glared at him.
"I don’t want to interrupt, but I don’t think I can allow you to kill my gamma male" I heard Alpha’s voice and rolled my eyes.
"He is my friend before your gamma male and.." suddenly, Matt shut my mouth from his hand and smiled at Alpha.
"Layla invited you for lunch, alpha. I hope to see you there, and sorry for Aadhya’s indecency," he said to alpha. "I think we will take your leave now. ".. {woah, so many formalities...}
"Make arrangements for her stay at the hostel," Alpha ordered, and matt nodded and dragged me outside with him. As soon as we came out, I bit his hand, and he left my hand with a hiss.
"What got into you, addy? How can you talk like that in front of alpha king?" he asked, and I was unable to understand anything.
"Like what?" I asked him innocently, and he looked at me in confusion.
"You have changed. I never saw you talking so carelessly and freely with any high-ranking wolves in blue moon" he looked at me and narrowed his eyes.
I smiled at him and linked my arm with his "I have a lot of things to tell you, but first, I am hungry. So, be a good boy and take me to Layla’s place."
"I was wrong. You have not changed a bit," he muttered while smiling.
