Chapter 21: Chapter 21 - Aunt Amara
If anything she told me earlier was shocking, then this was a tremendous blow for me. I knew gramma loved me, but sacrificing her wolf was something I never thought of. I encircled my arms around myself to save myself from the reality "anyone who knew about werewolves knew very well what it means to sacrifice his wolf, but Shira did that without even thinking twice. She called me at her residence and when I saw you first. I had doubts whether her sacrifice would do you any good or not. You were on a ventilator, your little body was covered with many tubes, and many machines were attached to your body. Your body doesn’t even have the strength to suffer an injection piercing. I am expecting that you still have those black marks of injections on your body," she asked and looked towards my right arm, which is fully covered in tattoo "you have hidden them very well," she complimented and continued, "both of us did everything that we can. Finally, you were strong enough to live, but it was not safe to hand you over to the Rose without any witch’s supervision, so rose agreed to leave you with Shira," she said and took a deep breath.
"If I remember correctly, then maybe 12 or 11 years back, she called me and told me that vampires have traced her as she has stayed at the same place for much longer than needed, and she is sending you with Rose to the blue moon pack, and I have to look after you if your health deteriorates. I tried to ask her many things, but she just told me to take care of you and not meet you until it is needed. That was the last time I heard from her." She finally stopped, and I felt everything becoming too heavy to deal with.
"What issue does she have with vampires?" the alpha king asked as they knew I was not in a state to ask or say something... {I spent eight years of my life with her and still I didn’t know anything about her}
"I don’t know. Whenever I tried to ask her, she shooed me off by saying, ’you should not know the things that will threaten your life, Amara’ I will also suggest that both of you should stay away from Shira’s matters. Maybe these matters can excite youngsters as you can find them adventurous, but these are not easy to handle." She stopped and gave pointed expressions to the alpha king, "not even for an alpha king, Ryan." She told him.
"I don’t think I can ignore these matters when vampires have already involved me in their plans," I said to her, and she looked at me with pursed lips.
"You should explain it, young lady," she told me sternly, and I took a deep breath.
"The attack in which mom and dad died was a vampire’s attack." An expression crossed her face, but she hid it, "and in the last three months. The blue moon pack has faced two vampire attacks, and surprisingly both times, I came face to face with the attackers. From what I have heard, I knew that they were targeting the blue moon pack to find something... but from your story, I think that it can’t be a coincidence that vampires are behind my gramma, then my mom and dad were also killed by vampires, and now they are attacking the pack where I live" I rubbed my temples on the newly found information and sighed.
"They should have got a whiff that you are in blue moon pack then," she said, and I nodded; then, she looked at Ryan seriously. "I knew I would sound very rude to you, Aadhya, but still, Ryan, I would suggest you not include her in your pack," she said to Ryan, and surprisingly I don’t think that she is wrong in any way.
"I will do what I think is right, Aunt Amara, and I have already decided that she is joining my pack. My wolf has already accepted her as a member of the crescent moon, and he is willing to do everything needed for the safety of Aadhya," he said with determination, and instantly I felt safe around him, and this time I knew this was not because of mate bond, I can feel the sincerity behind his words. No one said anything for a few minutes.
"Does it mean that I am also a witch?" I asked her, and she looked at me properly and seemed to analyze me.
"You don’t look like one," she said, and I got confused. "If you were a witch, you should have healed your wounds till now. Witches are naturally good with herbs. There is no need to learn witchcraft for this," she said, but suddenly her expression changed that of doubt "but I think I am wrong. If you are not a witch, then why am I unable to smell your scent" her eyes started examining me.
"It’s a mystery to me also. I don’t have any scent, Mumma gave me a scent to use, but as now I have stopped using it, you can’t smell any scent on me," I told her, and she looked troubled.
"How can this be possible?" she said to herself, but I heard it "every living being has a scent."
"Maybe it has to do something with gramma," I told her, and after a few seconds, she nodded.
"Yes, you are right. This is Shira’s doing. Maybe she wanted to hide you so desperately that she cast a spell to hide your scent," she concluded, but I don’t find it convincing this time.
"I don’t think gramma can do anything like that" as soon as I said this, she looked at me.
"Why not?" she asked instantly.
"Because she never wanted to make me suffer, and she knew it very well that if she had done that, then it would be hard for me to be accepted by werewolves, and from your story, I think she always knew that I have to shift with mom and dad, and despite all this gramma herself told Mumma to make a scent for me" on this she nodded.
"You have to have something, or vampires have not targeted you," she said.
"I think it’s just a misunderstanding. I am not even a werewolf, to begin with" as soon as I told her, a surprised expression crossed her face.
"You are not a werewolf" her statement sounded more like a question.
"No," I said to her and rubbed my temples.
"Things are becoming more confusing," she said to us "alpha blood is flowing in our bodies in addition to magic, and you are lacking both genes. How can this be possible?"
"Maybe it has to do something with my adventurous birth," I suggested to her, and she took a deep breath.
"Or maybe you are grooming late because of your premature birth" this time, I actually believed what she said... {this can be true as I have got my senses later than any werewolf...} "Maybe" she didn’t say anything after that but closed her eyes and sat there calmly.
"There are some witches or warlocks that are helping those vampires," Alpha said to her, but she didn’t react "vampires who attacked blue moon the day before yesterday have magical healing capabilities against silver."
"If they are tracing Aadhya, it clearly means that they are searching for Shira, and tracing her is not easy for anyone without help. They surely have to take help from witches or warlocks," she said, but her eyes were still closed.
"I can’t take it anymore," I said and got up from my place "that’s too much to digest. I need time," I said and looked at Alpha.
"Diego will sleep for an hour or two more" I nodded and went into the room where Dee was sleeping. I went to the adjoining balcony, closed my eyes, and took a long deep breath to calm my nerves. I was standing there calmly when I heard a knock on the door. I turned and found the alpha king standing there with something in his hand.
"I got you some medicine for that pretty gift that vampire gave you on your neck," he told me, and I nodded. He came next to me and stood there "put this paste on your wounds," he said and passed a bowl with greenish paste in it.
"How can I trust you that you have not mixed sleeping medicine in it?" I asked him.
"Trust mate bond then," he said to me, and I smiled. I took the bowl from his hand and removed the bandage from my neck. As soon he saw the wound, he turned his gaze and gritted his teeth.
"Don’t tell me that you also feel nauseous when you see blood or wounds," I teased him, and he looked me in the eyes.
"No wolf can see wounds on his mate’s body, Aadhya," he said with so much sincerity that I turned my gaze from him this time.
"I am going downstairs; Aunt Amara has made my favorite cookies. After applying the paste on your wounds, you can join us if you want," he said and went out of the room. I applied medicine to my wounds, and as soon as I did this, I started feeling itchy around those wounds. I knew that itching meant the wound was healing, so I put it on all my wounds. I stayed there trying to sort my thoughts out for almost an hour. I knew downstairs they would surely be talking about all this, but I was not ready to face all that information again.
I tried to keep myself busy and looked around but soon found a few things very fishy. I can see the shadow of three persons in the greenhouse but cannot smell them. I focused my eyes on their shadows. They picked some leaves from a plant, one of them squeezed it, and others put the liquid on their bodies. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it with great speed and without making any noise, or maybe the greenhouse is soundproof. One of them suddenly pulled something from his back, and all my senses started working at their best when I saw a gun in his hand.
Slowly I walked toward Diego and closed the balcony door behind me. I took him in my arms, knowing I couldn’t get him up, especially when he was given sleeping medicine. As I went down, I met Aunt Amara, who had a few cookies in her hand and was coming upstairs.
"What happened, Aadhya? I was coming upstairs to give you these," she said to me, and I also didn’t know why I did this, but I hid panic from my face and smiled at her.
"Alpha told me to join both of you downstairs, and Dee is having a nightmare, so I took him with me," I said to her while faking a smile.
"But Ryan went himself to sleep in the next room. He said something about the mate ball being a tiring business," she said with a smile, but I can’t force myself to believe this old lady... {how can he be tired when he has not even attended the mate ball?}.
"That’s great. I am also thinking of sleeping for an hour or two. Where is Alpha? I should put dee with him," I told her, took a cookie from the plate, bit a little part of it, and munched it. "I think I will take it all," I said to her and took the plate in my hand. She laughed and told me that she was going to get something from the greenhouse and gestured toward the room in which Alpha was sleeping. As soon as she exited the house, I spat the eaten cookie and heard her footsteps going away. I went towards the room and closed the door from inside.
Alpha was lying on the bed backward. I ran towards him, put Dee on the bed beside him, and then closed the room’s windows. I ran towards Alpha and turned him "tell me you are not asleep" I tried to shake him. He opened his eyes a little, then again closed them... {what if she is also in danger?} ... I closed my eyes and took deep breaths to calm myself down, then slowly removed the bandage covering my neck and other wounds. I don’t know if she is the one who is planning something against us or not, but her medicine did help me as there is no trace of a wound on my neck.
"Fine, if she is innocent, then obviously I won’t let anything happen to her, and if not ...." I shook my head to remove the negative thoughts. I heard the sound of the door and heard three pairs of steps coming directly towards the room. I pulled both the silver knives that were tied around my calves. "No need to be so cautious. She is a normal human. She will not hear your footsteps" I heard Aunt Amara’s voice, which clarified many things... {Will I be able to hurt the person who looks exactly like my gramma?}
I went near dee and took the little spray bottle from his pocket that I gave to him for his safety... {I can use this wolfsbane on her} ...
They were coming near, I was about to take the position when I saw gramma’s and Aunt Amara’s photo on the wall nearby, but I didn’t have time to think about anything "sorry, gramma," I whispered and took a defensive stance.
