Chapter 12: Chapter 12 - Memories

Eight-year-old me was sitting silently in the back seat of our car while Mumma was driving, and daddy was sitting in the passenger seat, looking a little stressed. "Mumma, daddy," I said, and she hummed while daddy looked at me. "Why are we going into the woods?" I asked them, and daddy smiled a little... {daddy never ignored my any question, no matter how annoying it was}

"We have to show you something," he told me and ruffled my hair.

"In the jungle?" I asked in confusion.

"Yes, sweetheart, a few more minutes, and we will reach there," he said, and I nodded. After a few minutes, Mumma parked the car on the side, and they exited the vehicle. Daddy opened the door and looked at me.

"How about a piggyback ride?" he said, and I giggled while nodding.

"You are spoiling her, Daniel," Mumma said to daddy, and he rolled his eyes.

"No, I am not Rose. You are just jealous that she loves me more," daddy told her and bent in front of me while I hopped on his back. We started walking into the woods, and I looked at Mumma, who was looking at us with a smile on her face. We walked for a few minutes, and when the forest got denser, daddy put me down, and Mumma put a bag beside me.

"So," he said nervously and looked at Mumma, "I think I should show her first," he said to her, and she nodded nervously and came towards me. I looked at her in confusion. "What is it, Mumma?" I asked her, and she forced a smile on her face.

"Believe in us, and don’t panic, sweetheart, I am with you," I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion "just look at your daddy" I wanted to ask her many things, but I did what she said to me. Daddy sat on his fours and started moving in a very weird manner. At first, I thought he was in pain, but slowly my breath caught in my throat when I finally realized what was happening.

His hands and feet changed into claws, and coffee brown fur started covering every inch of his body. His canines elongated like animals, and his mouth turned into a snout. Within a minute, a huge coffee-brown wolf is standing where my dad was, and the only thing that can prove that he was there is the remains of his torn clothes around that wolf.

I didn’t know how to react. I wanted to scream, run away, and shield my Mumma from this wolf, but I didn’t know how to digest the information that the wolf standing in front of me was my daddy. That wolf took a few steps towards me, and I took the steps backward... {what is this happening? These things only happen in books. This can’t be true}

"It’s alright, peanut," Mumma tried to calm me down.

"No, it’s not alright, Mumma," I said to her and hugged her tight "I wanted my daddy back. Tell this wolf to go back," I told her and started crying. She picked me in her arms, and I hid my face in the crook of her neck and cried hard. She rubbed my back and tried to soothe me. I stopped when I heard the whining of that wolf.

"It’s normal to be scared, Daniel.. stop whining. She saw all this for the first time. How can you not accept her getting scared of you?" Mumma snapped to the wolf, and the wolf took a few steps backward while whining. I looked wide-eyed at Mumma.

"Don’t talk like that with him. He will hurt you," I told her, and the wolf whined loudly at this. Mumma chuckled at it and kissed my cheek.

"Your father can never hurt me, peanut," Mumma said and looked lovingly at the wolf.

"But he is not daddy. He is a wolf," I told her and looked at the brown wolf for any signs of daddy on him.

"Your gramma and I are also wolves," she said, and I looked at her as if she had grown two heads. "I am not lying. You can try to touch him, your daddy can never even think to hurt you," she said to me, and I again looked at the wolf, who was now sitting on the ground with his head hung low.

"He will bite me," I told her and shook my head, but I had to accept that he was not looking as scary as before.

"He is your daddy, peanut," she told me pointedly, and now my eyes are fixed on the brown wolf. He is huge and beautiful with the same blue eyes as my father. Maybe he felt my gaze because he raised his head, and instantly I took hold of mom’s hand.

"What if he will?" I asked Mumma while my gaze was still fixed on him.

"You will not know if you will not try," she told me and nudged me to go near him. "go on, darling, I am with you," she encouraged me and waited for me to take the first step, but when I didn’t do anything, she removed my hand from hers and went near the wolf and patted him and ruffled his hairs "Come on darling, your daddy would love if you will come near him" she encouraged me, and I nodded. I started taking small steps toward him, and they waited for me patiently. When I was near enough to touch him, I slowly raised my hand and touched his head. When he did nothing, my courage increased, and I ruffled his soft fur, and he leaned on my touch. His fur is so soft and fluffy that I cannot even see my hand. Suddenly he came near me and started licking me. I panicked at first, but his licking tickled me, making me laugh automatically.

"S-stop," I said between laughs, and he complied and gave me the last lick. "Can you understand me?" I asked him in excitement, and he nodded. "Daddy??" I said, and he howled in happiness and again licked me.

"Do you want to meet my wolf also, peanut?" Mumma asked me, and I nodded. Daddy encircled me and rubbed his fur on me while I stared at Mumma, who transformed in the same way as daddy, but her wolf was blond in color. She came running towards us and tackled daddy, and I shrieked in horror. They stopped, and that’s when I understood that they were just playing. I put my hands on my hips and scolded Mumma, "you should not fight, Mumma. Fighting is bad," I told her, and if wolves can grin, then daddy definitely grinned at her.

They both came running toward me and started licking me, and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. I was unable to balance myself in all this and was about to fall on my butt, but instead, I landed on the soft fur of daddy’s wolf. We played for a while, I even sat on their backs, but both stopped eventually. Mumma took the bag from the ground while I played with daddy. She came after a few minutes in human form while wearing other clothes.

"You should go and change Daniel," Mumma said to him.

"Nooo," I whined, grabbed daddy’s fur, and tried to encircle my arms around his neck but failed miserably. "I want to play with him. Please, Mumma," I said to her, and daddy licked me lovingly, "and why did you change Mumma? I want to play with you, too," I complained and pouted.

"We will come again later, peanut, but right now, your gramma is waiting for us," she told me, but her voice was fading away slowly... I nodded sadly. Daddy nudged me and licked me, which made me giggle. He also went behind the bush and came after a few minutes and took me in his arms, and I kissed his cheek.

"We will come tomorrow, sweetheart, promise," he told me, and I nodded. We started walking towards our car, and slowly, the greenery around us began to turn black.

The only thing I could smell was the medicines, and that annoying beeping sound was the cue to guess that I was indeed in some hospital. I opened my eyes and closed them instantly because of the bright light... {It seriously hurts}

I took a deep breath and, this time, opened my eyes very slowly, giving them proper time to adjust. It took me a few minutes to remember everything that had happened, which surprised me because I was not expecting to be alive after all that.

I looked around and found myself in the pack’s hospital. I tried to get up, but pain shot in the nape of my neck, and I bit my lips to stop myself from shrieking. I again lay on the bed and took deep breaths. After a few minutes, the door opened, and the doctor came inside.

"Oh, you are awake," she said in surprise and her eyes blurred for a minute, then came near me. "That’s great. I thought you would not regain your consciousness for two or three more days," she said and checked the vitals.

"How long have I been unconscious?" I asked her.

"Not much, 17 or 18 hours," she said, and I nodded.

"Did I succeed in stopping the attack?" I asked her, and she gave me a disapproving look.

"Yes, you did, but that was a very foolish decision," she said while removing the bandage from my neck and started cleaning the wound...but I am happy that I managed to stop an attack. Dee would surely be proud of me.

"I don’t mind if my foolishness is able to save someone’s life," I said to her, and she again dressed my wound. "so, what’s my health update?" I asked her, and she shook her head.

"Neither something serious nor very well, you lost a lot of blood" ..{that I am expecting}.. "your left arm is severely injured, and it will take a minimum of three weeks to heal" I nodded "and the picture of your neck is not at all good, you have a lot of bruises and cuts all over your body, but your recovery is good" I again nodded "take proper rest for a month, and you will be fine," she said, and I took a deep breath. "I already informed Alpha that you got your consciousness. He will come and meet you in a few minutes."

"Did a child come to visit me?" I asked her, and she nodded.

"Yeah, he made a commotion after you were admitted here. He was adamant about meeting you. Alpha Ethan doesn’t want to hurt him, so he used his command on him, but it didn’t affect him" as soon as I heard this, a wave of anger passed through my body, and the doctor backed away. "calm down aadhya" she said, and I gave her a deathly glare.

"Call that kid here," I said in a calm tone, but she backed away a little "I don’t want anyone else but him here," I ordered her, and she shuddered.

"But alpha ai-.." I glared at her, and she shut her mouth.

"Only Diego," I gave her a pointed look, "no one else" she practically ran out of the cabin, and despite the pain, I sat on the bed and tried to calm myself. After a few minutes, the door of the room opened with a boom, and Diego came running toward me. He jumped on the bed, hugged me tight, and placed his face in the crook of my neck.. {fine, that hurts, but I can bear some pain for him}... All the anger I felt a few minutes ago vanished in a second, and I circled my hands around him. He started crying hard, and I rubbed his back to soothe him... {everything was alright. He is fine. My Dee is fine...} I breathed his scent deeply, which instantly straightened out all my feelings.

"You are bad, addy. I was waiting for you at dinner," he said while sobbing, and I smiled.

"Sorry dee, I will buy you two chocolates tomorrow," I said to him, but he didn’t let me go. "dee.." I said, and he hummed in a timid voice "tell me what happened when you tried to come to meet me," I said to him, and he finally let me go. He turned his gaze downwards. "Who tried to command you, dee?" I asked him directly. He kept silent for a few minutes but then looked into my eyes.

"Alpha Ethan," he said to me, "but his command didn’t work on me, so he sent me to the orphanage forcefully. I even told him that I would be a good boy, but he didn’t listen to me. I know that someone also stays with us when we go to the hospital. I told him that you don’t have mom, or dad, and your friends also live far away. I told him to let me stay, but no one listened to me" I nodded to his statement because truth be told, he had already made me speechless. He looks tired, and I can see dark circles under his eyes... {I don’t know when we came this close, but Dee has become my everything in these last two months}

"Did you have your breakfast?" I asked him, and he nodded "you should sleep now," I told him, and he shook his head.

"I don’t want to go to the orphanage again," he told me, and I shifted a little and gestured to him to come. He smiled widely and didn’t even waste a second climbing the bed. He encircled his tiny arms around my torso and looked at me with his innocent eyes "are you not sleeping?" he asked me, and I smiled at him.

"I have already slept, and I have to talk with Alpha about the attack" as soon I said this, his eyes got wide "nobody will say anything to you dee. I am here, and you said that when we stay in the hospital, someone stays with us. So, you are staying with me" he nodded while snuggling more into me and within minutes he fell asleep. After half an hour, someone knocked on the door, and the doctor came inside hesitantly.

"Alpha is here to meet you, aadhya," she told me, and I nodded.

"Send him inside," I told her, and she took a relieved breath and went out of the cabin. Alpha Aiden and luna Olivia came inside, and instantly their eyes got fixed on the sleeping figure of Diego beside me. They walked toward us, and luna sat on the bed while Alpha stood stiffly.

"How are you, aadhya?" Luna asked me in a whisper..{it seems like she cares about Diego.}

"I am fine, Luna, but I found out something important," I said, and this caught Alpha’s interest...
