Chapter 192: 185: Is Zhizhi planning to murder her own husband?_3

But... just as that ray of light was within his reach, it suddenly drifted further away, leaving him stranded in place, ultimately swallowed by the darkness.

The boy’s back was filled with sorrow, his entire being radiating an oppressive aura, like an abandoned puppy, desperately in need of rescue.

Yu Zhi pressed her lips together, her gaze slowly shifting away from his retreating figure, landing instead on the playground outside the window.

She watched the boys and girls outside, their faces brimming with joy, their laughter carefree, and sighed softly without a sound.

"Little Zhi?"

"Little Zhi, what are you thinking?" Qin Huai’s voice reeled her wandering thoughts back to the present.

She shook her head and lowered her gaze to the notebook that suddenly appeared in front of her. Her clear, melodious voice softened slightly: "You finished reading it?"

"Yes, I’m so impressed with you!" Qin Huai looked at her with admiration. "We listened to the same lecture, but I missed so many key points."

Perhaps it was natural talent; with just a little more effort, she could easily surpass others.

This was something Qin Huai couldn’t help but envy, no matter what.

Yu Zhi smiled gently. "If you focus a little more next time, you’ll discover them too."

"Maybe."

"..."

The school bell rang, and then rang again.

As noon approached, students from the class began to trickle out one by one, leaving in groups.

Qin Huai stood up. "Little Zhi, are you eating in the cafeteria for lunch?"

"No, I have to head out."

"Oh? Are you meeting your boyfriend for lunch?"

Seeing the gossip light ignite in his eyes, Yu Zhi was both amused and exasperated. "No."

She pulled her phone from her bag, slid her chair back, and as she was about to pass by Qin Huai, she lightly patted his shoulder. "If you need me to bring anything, send me a message."

Leaving these words behind, she stretched her long, slender legs and swiftly left the classroom, disappearing from everyone’s view.

Just two streets away from the school stood a strikingly prominent café.

Inside, lively music played, and every so often, when the glass door opened, the soft strains of melody would drift out, carried by the gentle breeze.

A handsome man sat by a window on the second floor, in a private booth. From time to time, he glanced down through the glass, as if waiting for someone.

About ten minutes later, when his eyes caught sight of a graceful figure in the distance, his phoenix eyes immediately lit up with brilliant radiance.

"Ah-Che." Yu Zhi approached him and took a seat beside him.

Looking at the neatly arranged food containers on the table, her ruby-red lips curved into an enchanting smile. "I didn’t expect you’d actually cook."

She had assumed his words at the zoo yesterday were said in jest and didn’t take them too seriously.

But now, seeing the table laden with food, she couldn’t help but feel pleasantly surprised.

"How else would I make sure you’re well-fed?" Wen Renche chuckled lightly. Just as he extended his hand to open the lids, his fingers trembled slightly.

He awkwardly turned his head to glance at the girl, and seeing that her gaze remained fixed on the food with no strange expressions, he exhaled a sigh of relief.

All the containers were soon opened, revealing not only the promised stir-fried bamboo shoots but also Yu Zhi’s favorites: corn and spare ribs soup, stir-fried bell peppers with pork, stewed beef with potatoes, and more.

"Ah-Che, your cooking skills have improved." Merely the enticing aroma was enough to make her mouth water, and her stomach growled right on cue.

"Eat first." Wen Renche pressed a pair of chopsticks into her hand, then poured her a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice with utmost care.

He watched the girl’s profile closely, waiting for her reaction.

Although every time, she would brighten up and exclaim, "Ah-Che, the food you make is so delicious."

Still, he never tired of seeing that animated expression, as though he could never get enough.

As expected, after she swallowed a mouthful of food, she repeated the same routine.

"I’m glad you like it." Wen Renche curled his lips in satisfaction. He picked up a piece of corn and placed it in her bowl. "Are you settling in okay at school?"

"It’s been fine once I got used to it." At first, she felt quite resistant, but over time, it became less of a bother.

After all, it was just a few more months before this phase of her life would come to an end.

"Hmm." Wen Renche took a sip of his juice, his thumb idly stroking the rim of the glass. Pretending to ask casually, he said, "Has any male classmate confessed to you?"

Yu Zhi’s chewing paused momentarily, and an image of Lu Li’s sorrow-filled back flashed through her mind. She let out a soft sigh. "One person."
