Chapter 925: Chapter 739, No Way to Explain Chapter 925: Chapter 739, No Way to Explain Everyone agreed that to continue the siege on the fortress was merely to incur more casualties.
The best approach was to take a detour and attack the city from behind.
There was no need to waste too much manpower in a place where they didn't have an advantage.
“Geoffrey, go and propose to the Commander that the Skeleton Army might as well take a detour,” someone immediately said.
Geoffrey was a Commander who accompanied the army, specifically responsible for coordination and communication.
Others couldn't make a statement, nor were they qualified to offer any suggestions to the Skeleton Commander, but Geoffrey still had some authority.
After pondering for a moment, Geoffrey nodded, “Okay, I'll mention it to the Commander. If that really won't work, then we'll write to the City Lord in advance to explain the situation here.”
The few others nodded along, indicating their agreement.
Then they all walked towards a building in the rear.
Standing before the building.
They knocked lightly on the door, then pushed it open and walked in.
The building was dim inside, lit only by the silver-white moonlight pouring through an open vent.
The Skeleton, wearing a noble gown and a sun hat, sat in the room, its hollow eye sockets looking towards the door.
Geoffrey and his companions squeezed out a smile.
“Commander, we have something to report to you.”
Elsewhere.
“Damn, where has this taken me?”
Descending from the train, Wu Heng gazed at the pitch-black forest that surrounded him.
Rustling sounds occasionally came from both sides, as if some wild beasts were prowling through the woods.
After boarding the Phantom Train from Lundham City, Wu Heng's destination was to head to 'Seterde Fortress.'
After all, some ammunition and supplies from Lundham City needed to be delivered by him first.
But stepping off the train, it was all pitch black.
There was still some psychological pressure.
Casting a “Dancing Light Skill” around himself, Wu Heng released the Ghost.
“Wow, the cuisine is glowing, Ao is uncle,” Xiao Xiao exclaimed in surprise.
“What kind of words are those?” Wu Heng said as he looked at her.
“I've never heard of them.”
Glenda looked around, “Is this the place?”
Wu Heng replied, “We should be at the fortress. The train has never made a mistake. Xiao Xiao, fly up a bit and identify the direction.”
“Okay!” Xiao Xiao agreed, soaring up to scan the surroundings.
Glenda and Bella then began to scout through the surrounding woods.
Ensuring the rustling sounds were only small animals.
Nothing dangerous.
Afterward, Xiao Xiao flew down from above and pointed in two directions, “Uncle, there's a city over there with firelight; it should be the fortress you mentioned. Over there, there are dense level-light columns; it must be the Skeleton Army.”
“Right, let's go,” Wu Heng disbanded the Dance Light Skill and took out a flashlight, heading towards the location of the Skeleton Soldiers.
Upon seeing the congregation of Skeletons from a distance, he donned the Faceless Mask, assuming the appearance of a fisherman with brown hair.
Inside the house.
Geoffrey sat to one side and spoke earnestly, “Commander, in the past few days of assaulting the fortress, our numbers have only been dwindle while the enemy uses this to plan to wear down our forces.”
“If we cannot take it by force, we could choose to take a detour. The greatest advantage of the Skeleton Army is that they don't require heavy supplies; we can go around.”
Geoffrey laid a map on the table, gesturing the detour route with his hand.
From the map, the detour was half a circle.
In terms of distance and consumption, it was definitely a multiple increase, but there was no helping it–the city was indeed well-known, and the Skeleton Army truly could not take it down.
Skeleton Commander, within the hollow of his eye sockets, merely glanced over the map.
He stretched out his skeletal palm and waved toward the door, signaling it was time for the others to leave.
The expressions on Geoffrey and his fellows turned unsightly; hesitating, they proposed, “Please consider it. We could also first report the situation here to Lundham City and hear what plans they have.”
The skeleton still dismissed them with a wave of his hand, indicating they should leave.
The commanders frowned in frustration, but there was nothing they could do.
They exchanged looks and stood, heading for the exit.
Creak~!
Just as they reached the door, it suddenly swung open.
A middle-aged man with brown hair and coarse skin, accompanied by two attendants, entered.
“Who goes there?” the commanders immediately interrogated.
The newcomer was Wu Heng, whose appearance had changed.
He glanced at the few people in the room and said, “I've come from Lundham City. I bring orders and supplies from Lord Wen Mansha.”
“You? Previously, it was a Skeleton Knight who came. Why has it changed to you?”
Given the ongoing war with the Yeko Kingdom, aside from the original members of the Pinned Gang, it was rare for any humans to be assigned important duties.
So why had a stranger arrived to deliver orders and supplies?
As the commanders questioned him, a skeleton Commander in a long dress and a sun hat pushed past them, allowing Wu Heng to take his seat.
Then, like an obedient servant, he gently began to massage Wu Heng's shoulders.
Everyone's eyes widened in shock at the scene.
It wasn't just the shoulder massage.
They couldn't believe what they were seeing–the oddly behaving skeleton Commander was being so compliant.
It was as if they had seen a ghost.
Facing the skeleton's massage, Wu Heng felt uncomfortable too, but it was obvious that this action
convinced the people before him of his identity.
It saved him the need for any further explanations.
Wu Heng asked directly, “Who is 'Geoffrey'?”
“Pleased to meet you, sir. May I know how to address you?” Geoffrey stepped forward.
“I am the Inspector appointed by Lord Wen Mansha. Tell me about the current situation,” Wu Heng replied in an even tone.
Geoffrey nodded and continued, “The Skeleton Army has launched several days of attacks, losing many men and weapons. As it stands, it's only our side that's decreasing in numbers.”
“Is it difficult to take down?”
“This fortress is well-prepared, its walls high and sturdy, and it's equipped with many devices. With the current attack methods of the Skeleton Army, it's very hard to conquer,” explained Geoffrey directly.
He then added, “We're thinking about taking a detour. We were discussing this with the Commander.”
“A detour? Do you have a map?” Wu Heng asked, puzzled.
Geoffrey retrieved the map he had previously put away and drew a line, “We could take this route, avoiding combat with the fortress and mount a direct attack on the cities beyond.”
Wu Heng studied the map and inquired, “Why didn't the Beastman army take this detour in the past?”
Ah…
Geoffrey turned to look at the beastman representatives behind him.
The beastmen scratched their heads, clueless.
Geoffrey answered, “It must have been an issue of supply lines and time. A detour would increase the consumption of supplies.”
Wu Heng nodded, “How many Skeleton Soldiers are left?”
“About twenty thousand,” replied Geoffrey.
Wu Heng pondered briefly and said, “Alright, you can go and rest for now. Later, I'll tell you what to do.”
“Yes, sir,” the group said, turning to leave.
As Geoffrey was about to exit, he hesitated and then stopped near the door, “Inspector, if the Skeleton Soldiers are exhausted too much, the enemy will surely seize the opportunity to counterattack. If things turn serious, it could threaten Lundham City, and it will be difficult to explain to the City Lord.”
“I'll consider it,” Wu Heng said as before.
Geoffrey said no more and, along with the others, departed.
