Chapter 304: [Boss Fight] The Subjugation Of Gilach (5)

0% A stone mountain arose on each island they conquered.

“Th-this is Alketia.... The 458th battalion has been annihilated. I repeat. The 458th battalion has been annihila...... Kuhugh!”

Gilach led an army of 300 000 and took over the island chains one after another.

And each time, hundreds of Elemental Mages died.

Some had their limbs chopped off, others lost their heads. Then there were many of those who no longer looked as they did when they had been alive.

“These insects aren’t even fun to step on.”

The silver-haired elf, Gilach, clicked his tongue and flicked his hook upward.

“Uhh, ugh....”

Blood dripped from the hook which was shining similarly to his hair.

Swoop!

When he pulled his hook down, a large hole gaped in the signalman’s abdomen.

And with that, the last survivor of Alketia Island met their end.

With the humans and elves eliminated, all that remained were the Elementals.

The Elementals who had lost their contractors charged at them fearlessly like fierce beasts, but a mere mouse had no chance against a viper.

They were all impaled by Gilach’s hooks.

“It’s no fun, I’m telling you.”

The spirit bodies that were strung like jade beads sank to the ocean floor along with their masters. And when one battlefield came to an end, the banner moved onto the next place with him on the battleship.

Gilach had already been doing this for days.

Just as he was starting to feel bored, he received good news from his adjutant.

“Winter Heaven is on Ivy Island?”

“We’re sure. There is info that she is researching something suspicious there.......”

“Then you should have told me earlier if you had such important information!”

Gilach leapt up from his seat.

“Let’s head there immediately!”

“But the King said to take the capital first....”

“You fool! Don’t you know that traitors are to be eliminated before anyone else?”

Taking Aether’s head came before attacking the capital.

Even if he didn’t manage to capture Märcherm, he’d be praised rather than scolded as long as he brought her before his lord.

“The reason why he commanded us to attack the capital in the first place was to punish that traitorous bitch.”

In fact, there were some calculations behind this:

Show his loyalty to the Demon King, stop Winter Heaven from researching something dangerous, and teach that hateful bitch a lesson while he was at it.

There was no reason to not go.

“Don’t tell me that an officer doesn’t even know that.”

“I-I see. I understand now.”

“......Well, alright. Change course immediately.”

After the adjutant hurried out–

“Uhuhuhu.”

Gilach couldn’t hold back his laughter, his shoulders shaking with it.

Just you wait, Aether.

Because I will be the one to bury you, you bitch.

**
“We have bad news.”

I gathered the government representatives from both the Empire and elf country for a brief meeting.

“Gilach changed course from the capital and is rapidly coming south this way. And the destination is this place–Ivy Island.”

As expected, the responses weren’t very good.

Duke Renawill brought a hand to his head as if troubled, and the head of security, Miss Karina, shivered like she had hypothermia.

“What on earth should we do?”

“What can we do, we must fight.”

“But we do not have enough troops. All of our main forces were sent to defend the coastline of the capital....”

Lack of troops. A truly painful problem.

Because it was the result of the atomic bomb that I made.

The bombs didn’t just fall on land; the Demon King also gave Gilach discretion.

And that crazy ass bastard went off and dealt nonstop damage to the key southern coastal area the moment he received autonomy.

“Mast... Minister.”

I turned my head at the diminishing voice. Klais had her hand slightly raised.

“What is it?”

“May we know how long it will take to complete Dark Day?”

The completion of Dark Day, was it.

“I think we should have a prototype in about a week.”

Since the ultra-high-temperature superconductor was complete, all that was left was to assemble the scroll according to the theory.

That process would take a week if I were to be generous, and if I worked a bit faster, then I could finish in about five days.

“How long do we have until Summer Heaven’s army gets here?”

“Based on the current speed, he should be here in four days.”

Which meant that we’d have to hold out for another day or so.

“.......”

After I finished thinking, I opened my mouth.

“From now on, I will be handing over all authority over the development of Dark Day to Akasha.”

“Wait, what?”

“I can entrust it if it’s you, Kasha. I already made the blueprints, so use that to oversee the process.”

Dark Day was a big science, after all.

Working hard by myself didn’t make it easy.

Well, I could do it but it would be done faster with more people.

It might have been different if I was researching alone like in the past. Now I had the trust and authority to command dozens, hundreds of great talents.

And Akasha was basically my other self. She would definitely do a good job on it.

“Then what are you going to do?”

“I’m going to take Leninya and leave this continent for a bit.”

“What?”

“Think carefully, everyone, why the Demon Army that had been attacking the capital changed courses to this tiny, tiny island.”

The answer wasn’t hard to get.

“It’s all to get me.”

Whether it was to sabotage the development of Dark Day, or simply that Gilach was coming to see the face of the traitor...

In the end, it didn’t change the fact that they were coming because they were wary of Winter Heaven Aether.

“The moment Gilach arrives, I’ll be taking a small group of people including Leninya to the southern sea for a bit. I’ll give coordinates over the radio so I want you to set up a circle through Rosemary.”

“...Indeed, I see. Understood.”

“And Vermel, you take care of making the teleportation circle.”

Vermel nodded immediately.

My gaze moved slightly up.

A promiscuous woman who was floating above Vermel’s head.

It was the Wind Elemental King, Aerial.

She seemed to be showing interest in Vermel. If she could help out, that’d be great.

“Vermel, come here for a sec.”

“......?”

I took out a small box from my inner coat pocket.

When I opened the hexagonal box, there were two rings it. One was blue like sapphire, and the other was the color of emerald.

They were each called ‘Ring of Spume’ and ‘Ring of Expanse’ respectively.

They were the remaining two rings of the four I had gotten as a secondary prize at the arts fest after giving one each to Lotte and Freyr.

Of the two, I took out the Ring of Expanse and held it out to Vermel.

“Here. You said you wanted something like this before, right?”

“Huh? Yeah.”

The Ring of Expanse was said to have the power to sustain an Elemental’s protection and an amplifying circuit that multiplied the power of Elemental Magic.

It would’ve been useless if I had given it to him in the past when he had no Elemental, but it should be fine now with Aerial sticking to him.

“I didn’t get to give it to you back then. Take it now that I remember.”

Vermel looked reluctant but still nodded, and soon took the ring.

“.......”

“What are you doing? Put it on.”

As soon as I chastised him for his hesitancy, Vermel reluctantly put the ring on his left pointer.

“Haa....”

“Huu.”

“Ah.”

Suddenly, there were sighs coming from all around.

Dignitaries of both countries looked at us with wistful eyes as if it was a great shame.

[Fuu....]

Even that slut... Aerial, puffed her cheeks out, not hiding her displeasure.

The hell was wrong with these people.

**
The plans were all set.

There was a small bit of time until then so in the meantime, I decided to focus on teaching Leninya the application of combat magic.

“Whoa...!”

Aside from having knocked down Rosemary with a few swings of her hammer, Leninya wasn’t able to do much in my presence.

“Are you alright?”

“Not, bad....”

I pulled up Leninya by the hand.

While I did control my power, the sight of her arm scratched by the caliper blade made my heart ache like it had been cut up.

“Break time.”

“Huu.... I’m saved.”

We had been training for over five hours so she would be exhausted.

Leninya was plastered on the bench, and my own body was starting to creak a bit as well.

Training was important, but resting was key. We needed to save energy for when we faced Gilach.

“...I get it.”

During the break, I pondered how Leninya had been able to beat Rosemary, and found the answer not long after.

If she had the skills to beat Rosemary, then she should have been able to exchange dozens of blows with me. However, Leninya wasn’t at that level.

She was just in the top tier of undergraduates, nothing more, nothing less.

And if someone like that had gained a temporary victory over a Cataclysm–

[The Goddess must have put something in place.]

Alice was right.

It was the Goddess who was doing all she could to delete the malware that was the Demon King; she would have put other devices in place in case me or Akasha, the Trojan horse, failed.

And one of them would be Leninya.

“You got plenty of rest, right? Pick up your staff again.”

“Ahhh....”

“What’s with the ‘ahhh’? You’ll lose if you don’t get it right. Work like your life depends on it.”

“Aren’t you asking too much from an undergraduate who’s only in second year?”

“I don’t think so; you beat Rosemary.”

Afterwards, Leninya and I trained over and over again whenever we got the chance.

The kid who could only do the basics the first day was able to deflect my staff the second day, then by the third day, she gained composure.

This wasn’t a matter of skill.

“Uwahh!”

“Again.”

“Kyaaa!”

“Again, get into stance.”

“Yaaagh!”

“This time wasn’t bad. Again.”

The bottom line was that Leninya’s skills improved by a hair.

Naturally so. It would be weird if she did noticeably improve in combat when she had only trained for three days.

Rather, what I taught Leninya was the mindset.

A comfortable mindset that could deal with a Heaven.

“Huu, huu.”

So even though she lost all the same, Leninya was able to stay calm.

As evidence, her complexion was several times better compared to three days ago.

“Today’s the fourth day.”

“It is.”

And with progress came evaluation.

Boom, boom, boooom!

The area around the island began being engulfed in a hellfire.

“He’s here.”

It was time to put the plan into action.
