Chapter 1142: Extra Chapter Seven
"Two little brats, be careful. You two rough lads need to be gentle. Don’t hurt my sister," Yan Minmin said with a smile, her demeanor graceful.
Hearing this voice, Qin Yujiang and Qin Yuhe clammed up like cicadas in winter and stood at attention, just like schoolchildren being scolded.
To outsiders, Mother’s gracefulness was evident, but as her sons, Qin Yujiang and Qin Yuhe knew all too well about Mother’s "ferocity."
Her ferocity wasn’t about how strong she was, but rather that when she was displeased, the mightiest in the family would step in.
Then Yan Minmin came forward and took Susu from Qin Yujiang’s hands.
"Let’s go, sister. These two stinkers aren’t worth our time besides looking alike. Let’s head back to eat; almost everyone has arrived. Even your nephew who forgets his relatives at the sight of a pretty girl has brought his girlfriend home. We can’t be the last to show up."
Without waiting for her sons to catch up, she strolled off with Susu in her arms.
Whether the brats followed or not didn’t matter; the important thing was that the sister was taken back to the house.
Inside the dining room, nearly everyone from the Qin Family was present—it was an unprecedentedly busy and lively gathering.
Today marked Grandpa Qin’s eightieth birthday. The Qin Family members originally wanted to throw a grand celebration for him, but Grandpa Qin insisted against it, saying he didn’t want to cause trouble.
In truth, everyone understood that Grandpa Qin was actually afraid.
There used to be a local belief that if an elderly person’s birthday was celebrated too lavishly, Lord Yama would notice, and that person, who might have lived longer, would not have much time left after the festivities.
Grandpa Qin never believed such absurd superstitions, but now with his precious daughter, he preferred to err on the side of caution.
He wasn’t afraid of dying, but his daughter was still young. He couldn’t bear parting from her, wanting to take care of her for a few more years.
Unable to persuade him otherwise, the family chose a low-key approach—a simple dinner just among themselves.
At the large oval table, the grandsons lined up and approached Grandpa Lu to offer their birthday wishes.
Qin Yuhuai, Qin Yuhuan, Qin Yuze, Qin Yuche, Qin Yuzhou, Qin Yumu, Qin Yujiang, Qin Yuhe, and Su Yuyuan stood in a row.
"May Grandpa’s fortune be as vast as the Eastern Seas and his lifespan as enduring as the Southern Mountains, may you enjoy this day each year, and may every year bring new horizons."
Their voices were deep and synchronized.
"Very good, very good, all my good boys," Grandpa Qin said with a beaming smile, in very high spirits.
Just as everyone was about to step back, Susu stepped forward, "All be good boys, here are your red envelopes."
The crowd was startled and exchanged glances.
Red envelopes?
Weren’t they here to celebrate a birthday, not the New Year?
It seems like the little aunt has confused New Year’s greetings with birthday wishes.
Probably.
So, what do they do now? Correct the little aunt?
Better not, they shouldn’t embarrass her.
Right, they mustn’t correct her, preserving the little aunt’s dignity is of utmost importance!
The group communicated with glances, unanimously deciding to stand still and obediently await Susu’s red envelopes.
Then, they watched as Susu brought over a box and began to distribute the "red envelopes."
The red exterior was correct, but the thickness was quite surprising.
Qin Yuhuai was the first to take one and immediately noticed the unusual heft.
This was way too heavy!
Soon, the others also received their heavier-than-normal red envelopes.
Instinctively, they knew it wasn’t money inside.
Money isn’t this heavy, this hard, or this box-shaped.
Judging by the shape and the weight, it could likely be...
