Rochefort had been taken to the infirmary, accompanied by Principal Miliera and Arles. Inglis and the others waited outside so as not to get in the way.
They saw the doctor leave the room, Principal Miliera followed shortly after and called out to them.
"You may come in now, everyone. But please be quiet, Instructor Rochefort is asleep."
"Um, Principal… is Instructor Rochefort going to be okay…!?"
At Rafinha’s question, Principal Miliera cast her eyes downward.
"I'm afraid I can’t say he’s doing well… It seems Professor Rochefort’s illness has relapsed."
"! He’s… sick again…!?"
Back when Rochefort led the Venefian Army in a sudden assault on the royal capital of Charalia, his body had already been in the final stages of a terminal illness. He could have died at any moment.
Because of that, the usual side effect of Hyrule Menace weaponization—draining the user’s life force—didn’t work on him. He was able to wield Arles, in weaponized form, freely."Yes. If I recall correctly, what cured Instructor Rochefort was the dragon meat Miss Inglis fed him with, yes?"
"Yes…"
The flesh of the Dragon God Vufailbane was not only a supreme delicacy; consuming it in large quantities granted one the "Dragon Roar," a power that could be housed within the body, making it essentially a miraculous elixir capable of curing even incurable diseases.
This was because the Dragon Roar, the source of a dragon’s power, possessed incredible adaptability, allowing it to harmonize with and affect other living beings.
Thanks to that effect, Rochefort had been saved, and he chose to remain in Charalia with Arles, serving as an instructor at the Knight Academy.
"Say, Glis… what if we let Instructor Rochefort eat some more of the dragon meat, then…!? Maybe he just didn’t have enough the first time!"
"Yeah, I thought of that too… but we don’t have any of Vufailbane’s meat left anymore, do we?"
"Aww… We gave it out to everyone because we wanted big brother to have some too."
"But what about the stock in Alucard!? We left a good amount of meat at the camp on the ruins of Lekrea! They might still have it stored!"
That outburst came from Leone.
She was absolutely right. To address the local food shortage, they had cut up large portions of the Dragon God Vufailbane's meat and distributed it to everyone in Lekrea.
"There’s a real chance! Shall we go check it out, Miss Inglis?"
"Yes, that’s our best bet. But there’s no time—"
She’d have to leap straight there using Divine Feat. This was a race against the clock.
"Let’s just use a Glis Warp and teleport in an instant!"
"Haha, it’s called Divine Feat, Rani."
But Inglis had used up all the stored High Ether she needed to perform Divine Feat during the flygear race. She couldn’t activate it again right away. She’d need time to reweave and generate the necessary amount of High Ether. That meant the only option left was to borrow the power of a Hyrule Menace.
"Then, we can have Professor Arles come with us. We can leap straight there with her help—”
"Understood! Let’s go!"
It was Arles herself, stepping out of the infirmary, who said that. She must’ve overheard their conversation.
"Please—I’m counting on you, Miss Inglis. For Ross… please, we have to save him…!"
Inglis firmly grasped the hand Arles offered her.
"Yes, Professor…!"
From their joined hands burst a dazzling light, swelling with overwhelming intensity.
"S-, so this is how a Hyrule Menace weaponizes…!?"
Overwhelmed by the brilliance, Meltina squinted her eyes.
"Yes, it is…!"
"It’s beautiful, isn’t it?"
Leone and Liselotte also narrowed their eyes and nodded in agreement.
"B-, but… how could she use a Hyrule Menace without a Special-Grade rune…!?"
"Huh? Well, it’s Glis, you know? I figured she’d be able to do it somehow."
Rafinha responded to Meltina’s astonished question as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"Haha… the scary thing is that I’m kind of convinced."
As they all spoke, Arles had already transformed into a beautifully ornate golden shield.
"Alright everyone, hold on to me."
The Hyrule Menace would convert Inglis’ ether into High Ether, allowing her to wield Divine Feat. This way, she wouldn’t need to spend time weaving regular ether into High Ether.
Rafinha and the others placed their hands on Inglis’ shoulders and arms.
"All set, Glis!"
"Okay, here we go!"
—Divine Feat!
In a flash, the scenery changed. Inglis and the others, who had just been in a warm and brightly lit room, were now standing in the darkness of night, with a cold wind blowing around them.
They were in the heart of a campsite near the ruins of the city of Lekrea, in the northern country of Alucard.
The city of Lekrea itself had collapsed and been carried away to Highland by a "Levitation Magic Formation," so this campsite was meant to be the place where the new Lekrea would be rebuilt.
"S-, so cold… So this is Alucard…"
Meltina shivered as she spoke.
"But compared to before, it does feel a lot warmer, doesn’t it?"
"Yeah. I guess the season has something to do with it, but it’s completely different now."
"Right? It’s just a little chilly, that’s all."
Rafinha and the others also looked cold, but the level of cold was definitely different from when they had previously come to Alucard on an infiltration mission.
This region had been a frigid land because the Dragon God Vufailbane had slumbered here, but now that it was gone, the climate seemed to be returning to its original state.
"So, where’s the dragon meat that healed Ross…!?"
Arles, having returned to her normal form, asked urgently.
"Umm—wonder if Lahti’s here? I’m sure we can ask him…"
"He might be over in the royal capital, though."
Just then, someone called out to Inglis and the others as they looked around.
"Inglis! Rafinha! Leone! Liselotte!"
Someone was calling their names. It was Luwin, one of Lahti’s knight aides. He had several subordinate knights with him. Perhaps they had been making the rounds for a night patrol.
"Oh, Luwin. It's been a while."
"Ah. When the Order of Arcane Wardens from Charalia came the other day, you all weren’t here. Prince Lahti and Lady Pullum were disappointed not to see you."
"Luwin! Lahti—do you know if he’s here right now!? We’ve got something urgent!"
"Yes, he’s in the lodgings over there. Please come see him."
"Thank you so much, Luwin!"
"We’ll head over right away!"
"Ah, but please, don’t just barge in…make sure to call out from outside—"
But before Luwin could even finish, Rafinha and the others were already rushing off toward the building they had stayed in before, too pressed for time to listen. Rafinha flung the door open energetically.
"Lahti! Pullum! Are you here!?"
Lahti and Pullum were visible right away, sitting together on a sofa further inside the room. Pullum was nestled in Lahti’s arms, the two of them pressed skin-to-skin in a very close embrace. Seems like it wasn’t just the local weather that got warmer… there was no mistaking what was going on.
"Whoa!?"
"Kyaa!?"
The two of them leaped apart in shock as Rafinha burst in.
"!? S-, sorry! I didn’t mean to interrupt!"
"N-, no, it’s fine—just wait outside for a bit, okay…?!"
"G-, geez! I told you we should turn off the lights and go upstairs…!"
"A-, anyway, we’ll wait outside! Sorry again!"
Rafinha quickly shut the door, her face bright red. She was clearly caught off guard.
"T-they’re… adults now… Lahti and Pullum…"
"Y-yeah. I—I can’t even imagine doing something like that yet…"
"M-me neither… But… I guess that day will come for me too…?"
"I-, I feel like we just did something really bad…"
Rafinha, Leone, Liselotte, and Meltina all had red faces, shifting their gaze up and down in flustered silence.
"…………"
Inglis figured it was fine for Leone, Liselotte, and Meltina to witness something like this, but she wasn’t sure if it was the best thing for Rafinha’s upbringing.
Just like Pullum had said, if they were going to do something like that, they should at least turn off the lights and do it somewhere not immediately visible from the entrance.
Mab: Yeah they’re having sex.
